Plainfield Donut Shop

A throwback from another era. It feels like the 70’s. There are no tables, only a counter. Everyone sitting there or walking in seemed to know the staff and other patrons really well. We had coffee– it was good. Egg and cheese sandwiches, also good. Donuts were nice. Overall an experience that was worth going out of the way for. Not necessarily the donuts, but the place itself.

A tiny little shop on the corner serving breakfast and yes, fresh, lovely, yeasted donuts. The place looks like something from a time long past. The décor is out of the 1950s with only 8 or so counter seats. The clientele are friendly and very local. Lots of jokes and laughing back and forth. The coffee was served in those classic blue and white cups, hot and fresh. Service was fantastic and friendly. The breakfast was awesome. We ordered egg
sandwiches and a side of hash browns. The sandwiches were served scrambled nicely on really fresh bread. The hash browns had classic flavor with soft delicate potato chunks. After a great breakfast we took a couple donuts home: glazed, crème and jelly. Look. Some days you just gotta eat a once. If that meal happens to be breakfast and donuts, so be it!

My fatal fascination for yeast doughnuts made me wake up my husband at 5am to drive next town to this place because Unilocal is convincing most of the time. Freshly baked yeast and cake donuts in a take out setting without any frills, but definitely better than DD. I would only go for the yeast glazed donuts; just my preference. Glad to learn, I can grab one nearby when my cravings occur.

Plainfield’s best kept secret! I’ve enjoyed their donuts in the past, however just recently started having their breakfast. You get good portions at decent prices. I treat myself every now and then.

Don’t drive too fast or you will pass the place. Tiny little luncheonette with a handful of counter stools, and a lovely display of donuts behind the counter. I never had a bad donut from this place. Inexpensive too, you can get a dozen for $ 6. You have to call ahead for orders of two dozen or more. If you have a donut here, you will NEVER go to Dunkin again.

I’ve been waiting to try out these donuts for at least a year and must say, they were definitely worth the wait! Fresh, doughy, sweet and with a touch of divine crunch. I didn’t get there until 10am, so the selection was pretty picked over, but I managed to score the second to last jelly. The coffee was also really good. I’ll be back, for sure.

A little hole in the wall place that serves warm fresh homemade donuts. Clearly not cookie cutter pastries, these have a hand made look and taste. Not overly sweet. Limited varieties but what they have is exceptional. Will definitely be going back again.

This place is a donut lovers dream. Huge and crispy on the outside and soft and delicious!!! A must try place for true donut connoisseurs! My favorites were the jelly donut and the glazed donut… mind blowing!

Authentic, fresh, delicious donuts !!! I drive all the way to Plainfield just to get them, thats how good they are.
PS. the earlier you get there the better, they sell out pretty fast!

Above average donuts on a below average budget.
Visited based on Unilocal reviews and this place is as described. Small and cozy with VERY cheap prices. 6 items for $ 5.45 not bad! The yeast donuts are EXCEPTIONAL! However the cake donuts are on the denser size and covered in glaze, yet still good.
Come here early, I came at noon and noticed only the bottom shelf left, I assume the whole rack was filled in the morning.

One of the only donut places that is not DD– in the area. Good donuts and the owners are really nice. Also good prices for the donuts! love coming here.

The donuts should be like this. Authentic fresh flavor to it. DD cannt even come close to the taste of these donuts! Deliciously sweet!

Excellent jelly donuts. These are the way jelly donuts are supposed to be. Eating one will make you ashamed for having every wasted your time with a «donut» from DD or the supermarket. As a waring, do not try to buy a dozen a once without calling ahead or placing an order the day before.
This place is good!

A donut oasis in the middle of a Dunkin Donut land. Found out about this place via Unilocal.I was in the Dunellen area and had a craving for coffee and donut after a walk in the bitter wind and cold, yes people from Joisy you know what I’m talking about.
Unilocal listed this place and I was intrigued since it seemed like a mom and pop shop. I find this kind of rare since I’m under the impression we are a Dunkin Donut state, in fact based on my donut reasearch only other chain in state is Krispy Kreme and there is only one in the entire state of New jersey.
Ambiance: It’s counter space only and seems to be designed for commuters. Their hours are 5am to 4pm and closed on sundays. The also offer breakfast meals at reasonable prices.
THE DONUT: FIrst impressions: I had the cinnamon roll type. It was huge, but very good. It was light in texture and sweet to my liking. My only complaint is that the cinnamon did not swirl around whole piece. Unfortunately I visited in the late afternoon, so the display racks were empty and I could only select from the one tray where they placed all the donuts. I am told that they make donuts on premises which is rare these days.
I will be definitely be going back to visit again and try other donuts, and I strongly suggest going early though I am not a morning person myself.

Just as an update… I «might» not have stopped at one donut that day. I might have been nibbling on donuts all day and ended up eating about 3 of them. But the Jelly donut was good, the one with coconut on it was good, and they were all just SO GOOD.

This is why I love Unilocal.I’ve passed this hole-​in-​the-​wall a hundred times, and it never even occured to me to go in. But thanks to the other reviews, I became aware. I sampled four donuts this morning, and all I can say is, why why why did I wait so long? These are real homemade donuts, not the cloyingly sweet, mass-​produced junk you get at DD.
This shop is located three blocks north of the now-​closed Blackberry’s soul food restaurant (seen on «Kitchen Nightmares»), the only other reason to find yourself in this neighborhood, unless you are shopping for a bail bondsman. Closed Sunday.

Didn’t think they made donuts like this anymore. Too good for words, far better than DD.

Local bantor! Good coffee fast. Cheaper than Dunkin Donuts. Just an old school spot. I love the plain Cruellers and cannot eat a whole one– huge. Hint: Put $$ in the parking meter.
