Vermont Krunch Toffee Company sells yummy varieties of toffee at the Burlington Farmers Market and other stores in the area. The company was founded in 2010 by Erika DeVincenzi-Sandoval, who was then an unemployed communications major from Norwich University. DiVincenzi-Sandoval based her toffee on her mother’s recipe. The toffee currently comes in at least two flavors. The two I’ve tried are toffee covered with semi-sweet chocolate, cashews, pecans, walnuts and macadamia nuts; and toffee covered with white chocolate, macadamia nuts and coconut. I first sampled the toffee two years ago at the Winter Farmers Market. I love toffee, so I was hooked. My only complaints about the toffee is that it’s a bit soft. It seems like it should be a crunchy toffee, but it’s not quite crispy enough to be crunchy and not soft enough to be chewy, so it falls in that in-between place that some people might mistake for stale or not fresh. One other suggestion might be to balance the sweet with a bit more salt for contrast. Still, every time I go to the Farmers Market I like to sample this product and I have purchased it at least a few times for gifts. Once I went through a bag myself in a late-night, sitting-in-front-of the-TV mad eating binge. It tasted great at the time(though I wished for more crunch and salt for contrast), but afterwards I wish that I’d exercised a bit more self control ;) Hate when that happens! I’ve had better toffee outside of Vermont and Lake Champlain Chocolate’s chocolate covered toffee is probably still my favorite. but this is a very nice product. You should definitely give it a try!
