We had lunch here following Sunday School with former President Jimmy Carter. The meal was excellent good old country cooking. It is dished up cafeteria style. Service was friendly and helpful. We would certainly return.

Visited the area to hear ol’ Jimmy teach Sunday school. This place was mentioned by one of the church members. We looked for other places in Americus but decided to give this place a shot. It’s like church fellowship hall meets diner. You go through the buffet line(but it’s a la carte, not standard buffet all you can eat), grab a seat, then pay. Fried chicken was surprisingly really good. Nice flavor, good texture, a little bit of crunch and not salted just right. Rivals a lot of fried chicken out there. I had the legs and wife had the breast which was maybe the slightest bit dry but still good. Also got me the fried pork chop. This was a little more on the dry side but still good flavor. For sides, I got the collards. Big ol’ chunk of ham hock in there. That was a little on the salty side but with the rest of the collards, worked fine. Personally I like collards a little less chopped up and slightly on the sweeter side but this was still good. Mashed potatoes and gravy. This is where the money was. If you’re into that sorta thing, the gravy was really good and the potatoes were also. I even grabbed some of the roll to dip into the kid’s gravy. Pecan pie: good. Filling not too gooey, you know what I mean. Good lemonade. Right amount of sweet v. tart. Didn’t try the sweet tea if the lemonade was any clue, it should be good as well. Overall, this place was solid. I would say for Plains, Ga, the prices were slightly higher than expected but still cheap. Hey, it’s the only restaurant in Plains but one to definitely try out. Servers were nice as well.
