Plainsboro Public Library

I love the new library bldg with its new spacious feel and couches.
But for a few issues– the book collection is still not good. Every time i needed a book for a book club or a popular read, plsboro library never has it and i always have to put a hold. Whether its a educational type reference book or fictional/​non fictional reading, Even for the kids summer reading. The collection is not that great or not enough copies.
Fr eg — South bruns has such a large collection of books and movies.
The second thing– a B&N type café would be so appreciated. There used to be a paid coffee machine but they took it out.
Loan period for newer books are too short. And the fines add up to a lot.

No color copier, no color printer. the staff treat you like they are inconvenienced by you asking for help. awful library, and makes me miss the libraries in Ohio.

Very nice and clean library. They have 3 floors. The topmost floor is for kids. The first and second floor have wide selection of books/​audios/​videos. Free wifi and also their are PCs if you want to work. They also have some quiet rooms for independent studies. I loved their couches were you can relax and read.

I love love love this place. I spent two years here. Literally every single day. Whether I had studying to do or an email to send out or just needed some peace of mind, this was my place. I would grab some coffee around the area and settle here until the librarian drove everyone out.
I passed all my Dental boards just studying here. Never felt that peaceful.
Love the conference rooms and the fantastic couches.
This library gave me so much, that I wanted to give back too. I have been a Volunteer here since the last year and a half.
The staff are warm and friendly. Everyone goes an extra mile to help you.
Neera, Sharon and Maryann are my favorites. They are such wonderful people who love their job and do the best.
Whenever I have friends over, I always drag them here to show them how lucky I was.

I love studying here! It’s beautiful, clean, spacious, and quiet. The downstairs area has large floor to ceiling windows that make the environment quite comfortable for studying, especially with the sunshine coming through. Besides that, there are plenty of books and organized children activities. Definitely a great space for the community, is easy to find parking, and is accessible by most busses that run in this area. I will say though, that weekends during the school year are packed with kids doing homework, on the computers, and getting tutored. So for a college kid like me, I actually could not focus too well because of all the conversations that were going on.

Space is fantastic! Great place to study and work.
My only complaint… they really need some collection development… it’s clear someone made the bad decision to remove old movies, and stick with new films… but new films never stand the test of time. I don’t want to watch an Adam Sandler movie, but I do want to find great films…
I was surprised by lack of selection in books and DVDs…

I MISS MY OLD CRAPPY SMALL PLAINSBORO LIBRARY BUILDING that made me feel safe since it was right next to the police station! Bring it back!
Seriously, the old place was small, it was not as «pretty» (since it seems like plainsboro is attempting to become more fashionable of a city), but it worked! It was a library, people came there to rent videos, dvds, books, go the the saturday sale, come to tutoring society and most of all– STUDY, go online. NO one really came there to «socialize» because there wasn’t much space to do so.
I am no architect, but something about the beautiful structure makes it less efficient. Young, self obsessed teenagers flock here not to study, but to chill. They come by in huge groups (esp after school), occupy the silent study rooms, and act, well not so silent. Its like a party back there… despite all the «please be silent» signs.
The librarians try hard (some more than others) to keep the peace, but unfortunately theres something terribly wrong with the way they are situated — away from the study rooms. so that they really dont knwo whats going on. Its beyond irritating.
The 2 stars are for the PROS: — its got books, internet, wifi, a small seating area to eat/​drink and its pretty. Its also very conveniently located, which helps… ample parking and staff for the most part are friendly and consistent. There is a small fee for printing (which did not exist in the old library. but i totally understand the implementation)
Now, i hate sharing my «study spots», but besides the park, the science library at princeton univ is a great place to work if you are studying for board exams, etc. Its more mature, QUIET, and bringing in the occasional water and sandwich wont get you dirty looks. Only downfall of that is PARKING. During the daytime, you would have to park in the general lot and take the shuttle. Also, food places are not that close (about 5 – 7 min walk), but if you plan on spending the day studying, i think its worth going to. It is a public library «technicallY» on the univ campus.
But, if theres anyone on the staff that actually reads their Unilocal reviews– please try and do soemthing about the noise. Sitting in the front of the floor near the doors do not help. Also, i understand being so strict about food and beverages (ive even been tagged for water once), but if more attention was being paid to peace and quiet and maintaing the ambiance that the 2^nd floor is supposed to have, it would be more helpful :)

Ok so this library is nice in terms of structure… they have a nice lil café section where you can eat while u study and almost everyone can have an access to a plug point it is also in The center of everything so you have a ton of places to eat and all kinds Japanese chinese Indian mcdonalds. italian Dunkin mexican don’t think you could ask for any more variety… they also have an amazing coffee shop ice. cream store… but at times this can be the worse place to get serious studying done… it’s always noisy even in the quiet sections… that’s s big drawback it’s like ppl just don’t see the signs that say its a quiet zone eventhough they have areas that allow group discussions… the librarians don’t round frequently or anytime to tell ppl to quiet down it’s very frustrating… i have spent a lot time tryna tell ppl off

I grew up in Plainsboro and remember the «old» public library and the old old public library located with the municipal buildings. Then I went away for college and moved to California for work, seeing only glimpses of the construction of Plainsboro village during visits.
During my last visit the village was complete and the library had found yet a new home. I decided to check it out because a friend was working there for the day and since I was supposed to be working remotely I thought I’d join him.
First, since the entire village is new, the building is very modern and clean. Large glass windows, high ceilings, and hard lines make the place feel very spacious and sleek.
In addition to the building just being new, I was happy to see a lot of the large paper mache figurines set up on the ground floor. They made me feel nostalgic since I remember them from when I was little.
The library has 3 stories — the first floor has more open table/​desk and computer station space in the middle, with stacks surrounding. The second floor has more of the stacks with private study/​conference rooms along the sides. The study rooms are very comfortable and well set up with power outlets and a whiteboard. There were also small patches of «napping» or lounging spaces with interesting basket-​woven seating. The third floor is mainly the children’s area (pretty ingenious that they get their own floor), and there’s an outside area with a quarter-​life-​size chess board and pieces! Pretty cool.
All in all, I was duly impressed with the library and only wished it was here while I was still in school. This library definitely rivals nice college/​university libraries and is very well suited for college students. Almost made me wish I was a student again just so I could work in this library.

I think this is the best public library around the area (including Princeton Public Library). Because of my nature of love for checking out the libraries around the area (I know it’s a bit weird), I have been to half a dozen public libraries around the Mercer and Middlesex counties. This is the newest library and the equipment is all new. I think they have fairly good selection of books, including the ethnic sections. (ALERT to KOREANS: They have a large selection of Korean books here. If you need to read, go here). The people behind the circulation desks are fairly kind, too.
Like other public library, the library gets more busy after school hours, but usually the library is on the quieter side. Also, unlike Princeton Public Library, it’s much easier to park, for free. Overall, fairly good place to either study or sit back and read.
