Sorry, but not really good the way others have suggested. I understand there are regional differences in Mexican food, but even accounting for this, the food was poorly prepared, used some inappropriate ingredients, and poorly designed. We had chimichangas, which are deep fried burritos. These were soggy and underfried. They were filled with beans with a little meat. Chimichangas are an American invention from the Southwest, and as such, I have never had a meat chimi with beans in it. The beans are typically served on the side. The guacamole was a thin syrup, not a hearty chopped avocado salad. Cheeses seemed to be typical american, not mexican, cheeses. Save your money and eat at Taco Bell. It is better. If I counted the service, this restaurant would actually score a one star, not two.

My husband found this place on Unilocal — we’d been looking for a new Mexican place to try. WOW — it was fantastic! Located on East Main Street in Plainville, it’s a family-owned establishment. Lots of bright lights and Bodega meets breakfast diner kind of feel — you aren’t coming here for ambiance. But that’s a very minor consideration compared to how delicious the food is. Everything was fresh, fresh, fresh, including the chips and salsa. Nothing out of a plastic bag or box here and I’m pretty sure there’s no microwave on the premises. I got a chicken chimichanga, which had fajita chicken(chicken STRIPS — not that cat-food-like canned /shredded chicken that everyone else seems to use) and pinto beans — just the right amount of melted cheese on top and the tortilla was done to perfection. I was in love with the first bite — this was the best chimichanga I’ve ever had. The rice was delicious — it had a hint of nutmeg or cinnamon — really nice. My husband got the Moctezuma Molcajete meat bowl. If you’re seriously protein deprived, this dish is for you. It’s a cornucopia of meats — steak, shrimp, chicken, chorizo, pork — in a larger version of a guacamole bowl. He loved it, and said the pork was the best pork he’s ever had — ever. In his whole life. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive, but not too overbearing. We had to call«uncle» after the entrees, but the coconut flan sounded really good — we’ll have to try it when we return…

My favorite Mexican restaurant in the surrounding area! By far! I usually get take out so I can’t speak much to dining in. Definitely ask for the chips and salsa. The salsa is made fresh and it’s the best I’ve had. I usually get the chicken chimichanga. Amazing, not too fried but cooked just right! Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Went there because in the area and had a Unilocal coupon. As said by others, funky little Mexican restaurant with brightly embroidered tablecloths. Pretty empty at 8 pm on a Tuesday eve, with only Hispanic customers at the time, which helped make us think«authentic». The chips with salsa and the freshly made guac were some of the best ever, as was the chille relleno with a mouth-watering sauce. The margarita was very good — a little sweet. Fajitas were plentiful and delicious-could’ve used more sour cream and tortillas for the amount we were given. ll the food we ordered were quite slow in coming out, which could be because it was freshly made.(It might be a long wait if the place were busy.) Prices are very reasonable. There’s a little mercado with some baked and canned goods for sale to the right of the bar, and there were signs about happy hours-could be a fun place to go for it. Looks like a good Mexican beer selection. In all we were delighted with our«find» and are thinking of returning with friends and family.

I loved the funky Mexican décor and the background salsa music! It made El Paso feel all the more inviting to customers. We got a complimentary bowl of house made chips and salsa which we really loved. I got the 3 soft tacos(made with double corn tortilla, choice of meat, topped w/chopped onion, cilantro, salsa & guac) Tripa– pan fried beef tripe Lengua al Vapor– tender steamed beef tongue Cabeza de Puerco –pig’s head Now I misunderstood the menu which said«3TACOS(ONECHOICE) thinking that I would get 3 different tacos with the price of $ 5.99! So when our server came with 9 tacos, 3 of each kind I ordered, my eyes almost fell out of my head as soon as I realized what I had done but really, my eyes dilated and my mind was telling me screw it, I’m hungry and whatever I don’t finish I’ll just take home. And that is exactly what I did. My tacos were superb. Satisfied my Mexican food craving as well. My total came out to be about $ 20. Not too shabby for 9 tacos, am I right?

This is the Texmex place we have been searching for. Excellent friendly service and food made with pride. Great tex mex with more options than the average canned refried beans type of Texmex. Tacos come with big sections of fresh avocados. The chicken burrito had actual diced chicken meat in it. The delicious fresh salsa has real diced tomatoes, onions and cilantro. The nachos are abundant and half-price on Fridays. El Paso believes in pico de gallo sauce which makes it a real comfort food, stick to your ribs Texmex place.

Wonderful food! I come here for lunch often and am never disappointed by the freshly made dishes. The only thing that would make this a 5 star review is if the waitress would be a little more attentive.

Half Gramma’s kitchen and the other half is a Mexican grocery store. Plainville is really a depressing craphole, but El Paso is a really fine place. Menudo too.

Wait staff were very nice and pleasant. Calamari was ok, a little weird seasoning. Steak fajitas would have been awesome but the steak was sliced very thin and over cooked. Highly recommend using thicker strips and not over cooking it.

Sorry to say, the food was quite greasy. The flautas were literally dripping oil, and over cooked, stuffed with so much cheese, we just couldn’t eat them. The tablesauce was a watered down chile de arbol salsa. The carnitas were dry which made for a bad taco, and dripping with grease. The tortillas were dry and stiff, probably due to the brand they use, which I saw in the reach in cooler. That would be preference though as some people may enjoy a firmer more durable tortilla. On a good note, the rice and beans were tasty, and the guacamole was really great, saving this restaurant from a one star review. But I can make it better at home, so I have no reason to return. The place has promise, but really needs someone who can cook.

Went in on a rainy Weds night with a party of Five. Got there at 6pm, only party in the place. Guacamole was very tasty. Food took way too long to arrive and my order arrived wrong, The place is part eating establishment, part mexican grocery store. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. The restroom was terrible. Hold it until you get home! Not likely to return

Great little hole in the wall place. Don’t be deterred by any reviews mentioning this is take-out only. It’s not, and they have a full bar! The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious, I had the chicken enchiladas and ordered coconut flan to go. Don’t miss out on the coconut flan! Delicious.

Charming little Mexican family owned joint. Scored a SaveNowCT discount pass for half off. I’ve driven by the place a hundred times and heard it was surprisingly great food. Chips and salsa were a nice starter, along with a near freezing can of Tecate beer which I’ve always wanted to try after seeing it advertised all over boxing matches. I ordered the vegetarian platter which included refried beans, rice, enchiladas, burrito and cheese quesadilla. All equally delish. Dessert was coconut flan with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Overall, friendly service, tasty food and easy on the wallet. Not fancy, so don’t expect too much.

I have passed by El Paso so many times with intentions of going, and finally had the opportunity to meet some co workers for lunch. The place is very basic, not fancy at all but more of an authentic Mexican feel. They carry all the international beers along with soft drinks in a few coolers in the back of the restaurant. They also sell some goods such as hot sauces, canned and dried food and even movies… kinda like a small local convenience store in back for Mexican dishes. The waitress was very nice and had a great personality. The food comes out exact to what ever photo you see of a specific dish. I had the enchilada with steak lunch. I thought it was very good for the price of $ 6.99 I’ve been elsewhere and that dish can be double the price. Someone else in our party had the Cuban sandwich which has, chicken, ham, lettuce, tomato, egg, beef… I can’t remember everything to it but I want to try next time. Also ordered was a dish that had a big piece of thin steak over tortilla chips, a verde sauce and rice and beans. Over all we were all very happy and was thrilled to see that they had Victoria beer from Mexico available. Look forward to returning.

Definitely a cut above your average Mexican food joint. Family owned and run, fresh ingredients prepared authentically. Love the chicken enchiladas and the El Pastor taco. There is even a grocery store in the back with many items that are hard to find outside of Mexico.

We stopped in for lunch today(Wednesday). Our server brought over menus and we were soon nibbling on chips and a fresh salsa that was delicious. My wife and i each ordered the chicken enchiladas plate that included beans, Spanish rice and a soft(Pepsi) drink. I chose red sauce and my wife green, her sauce was plentiful, mine less so. Our enchiladas were almost devoid of chicken and there was nothing special about either our beans or the Spanish rice. We also took home a slice of coconut flan which was way too heavy. I would be hesitant to return for lunch after our experience.

If you visit El Paso, you MUST get the al pastor. It used to be one of those secret items not on the menu that you had to ask if it was available that day or not. When you asked about it and subsequently ordered it, it was obvious you were in-the-know. Kind of like knowing how to order at In-N-Out Burger(«animal style»). Thankfully, it’s now on the menu and available for everyone to know. My roommate and I came here today for lunch after we took a trip to DSW down the street. I was introduced to El Paso a couple years ago by an old flame who loved this place. After having a meal in this small, extremely casual, hole-in-the-wall establishment(which also has a small section of grocery items), especially after having the al pastor, I was SOLD. Today my roommate and I shared an order of tacos al pastor as well as the chicken quesadilla lunch special. Al pastor was like a flavor explosion in my mouth of sweet, salty, and a little bit of tang from the fresh lime juice squeezed on top. Tacos were made with tortillas with nice corn flavor and soft + slightly gritty texture. Quesadilla also blew our minds. The roommate makes a mean quesadilla at home so I wasn’t expecting to be wowed by this dish, but we both loved it as it was another flavor explosion with grilled chunks of chicken, sauteed onions and red peppers, and I don’t even know what else but it came together so beautifully tasty. Rice was ok, a bit starchy, beans were mediocre, but I loved the side of fresh salsa with bright notes of cilantro. We ended our satisfying meal sharing a coconut flan, also made in house. This was absolutely delicious. The flan was not overly sweet or rich, but perfect in consistency and taste. The layer of shredded coconut was a great contrast to the silky smooth custard. While we were there two other patrons came in and both ordered Horchatas and a lunch special. I had never tried Horchata before and didn’t want to order my own since the huge glasses they were served in were similar in size to round fishbowl. True story: I asked one of the patrons if I could trade a bite of my flan for a sip of Horchata. Stunned, he agreed to let me try the Horchata but politely declined my offer of flan. The Horchata tasted like Big Red cinnamon gum. Other things of note: $ 6.99 Lunch Specials include regular menu items of tacos, chimichangas, enchiladas, burritos, tostadas, etc. along with rice and beans and a fountain soda. They have grape soda, Sierra Mist, and Pepsi. Lots of Mexican beers in the bottle in the refrigerated section in addition to a larger variety of bottled soft drinks. Happy hours start at 2 and go to 6, I believe, and includes $ 2.99 margaritas, $ 2.50 bottled domestic beers, $ 2.99 bottled imports.
