I love this place. Was a hidden jem. Just happened to stop by driving thru town. I do not live close, but i will make the trip to come back for sure. Make sure to try the specials, they were amazing. I would definitely recommend.

Time and time again we have good meals here. The portions are some of the biggest around the area and the specials and always nice choices. The bartenders are excellent and they do not seem to employ younger newer bartenders who are marginal. These veterans know how to make a drink. Will go back again and again!

Slow, inattentive service. Christmas decorations still up in late January. Gray, gravy flavored French onion soup that was inedible. Will not be back.

Very surprised that there are any negative reviews for this place. This is a family run place that has really awesome reasonably priced food and drinks. They also have out of this world live entertainment and the most friendly bartenders around. Kevin and crew know their stuff and are so funny and friendly. The staff treat you like family, the atmosphere is so cozy and warm. I go here for dinner with my family now and then and am always welcomed so warmly. This place is my cheers. Even though at the most I’m only here once every other month. The boneless buffalo chicken tenders are the best you can get in south eastern mass. Also the seafood chowder is hands down better than anything you would ever get in the cape. It is mind blowingly amazing and if you like seafood an absolute must have. I’m craving it now just talking about it.

Having dined here several times and had wonderful experiences, we chose this establishment for a post-Funeral meal, not expecting that a buffet could possibly meet the same quality as their individual dining. What a wonderful surprise. This is an excellent restaurant for both individual and group dining. The atmosphere of the Tavern is pure New England charm, warm, relaxing and inviting. The service is professional and flawless. I must say, poor service is one of my pet peeves, but the servers here really are«a cut above». The food was perfectly prepared, beautifully presented and excellent in quality, taste and freshness. We had Chicken Marsala, which was immensely flavorful and tender, perfectly cooked. We aso had baked Scrod. Being«fish people», we were leary because we had not ordered fish when we dined here previously. Well I am going to order fish the next time I go. The baked Scrod was incredibly fresh, delicately seasoned, moist and delicious. First rate!!! We also had the most amazing golden mashed potatoes, so fresh, creamy and as exquisite as the best homemade. Considering this was a buffet with an iffy arrival time, the freshness of the fish and mashies alone speaks to the expertise of the chef and kitchen staff. There were wonderful homemade meatballs in red sauce that we all loved. We had a beautifully presented hot fresh vegetable medly of green beans, carrots, summer and green squash, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The crisp garden salad had a great variety of beautiful greens and vegetables. It tasted so fresh, it was hard to believe they could provide this in winter. It was one of the best salads I have ever had in a restaurant. We had excellent coffee, wonderful assorted desserts and good hot rolls. This was an outstanding experience all around. The Tavern has a well rounded menu and is a good choice for all age groups. Individual meals are substantial, well presented and superb in quality, freshness and taste. There is an impressive traditional New England tavern bar area with plenty of seating. I can whole-heartedly recommend this delightful establishment.

Wonderful… from soup to nuts… from outstanding meal to live entertainment to friendly and responsive staff to most comfortable atmosphere… the Cheers … WHEREEVERYONE welcomes you and you cannot keep yourself from relaxing and feeling at home. Or maybe better than at home. The BEST onion rings and blues/rock band on Wednesday night. Don’t miss Kris Pappas or Steve Heck. Call to find out when they’re playing. Kudos to Kevin, the coolest barker on our side of the Atlantic.

Don’t waist your time or money! Passing through the area and wanted something besides fast food before continuing to battle traffic. I’d imagine that I could had found fresher food if I had grazed in the lawn and perhaps looked for a fresh kill on the near by interstate. An appetizer, which was not only obliviously frozen before they flash fried it but when I told the server they tasted stale she told me they we made fresh(sure they were). For diner I had their 20oz sirloin, mid rare, baked potato, and green beans. The steak wasn’t just cooked I think they tried to cremate it(so over cooked) the green beans may as well have been raw. At Least the potato was eatable. The appetizer and the entrée were brought at the same time and it took ten minutes just to get a refill on my drink. Not worth the money or the time! I should have stopped at Mc Donald’s, at least I’d be lovin it!

This is one place I feel that does it right and takes their time in cooking and preparing there food. It’s old nick nacks for decorating is nice and a pleasant touch. Plus the old building adds a bit throw back to it. The bar is separate from the dining area which is nice and keeps the dining room quiet and below average for noise. You have a view of the lake in the dining area. Tables could be a little bit bigger for more space but still worked out fine. The food is of good size portions and the bread is served warm which is always a good thing. I mean who like cold bread along with cold butter lol. The chowder was white and could have been a little thicker. It had plenty of seafood in it along with lobster and a lobster sauce taste to it. Almost along the lines of a bisque. The pizza is true wood grill and they make there own dough. It is one of the better pizzas I had in a long time. It definitely is great and we’ll worth it. Had the lucys penna with blacken chicken in a tomato sauce base. It was plentiful and good. Just enough kick to it and not to much. Have a full bar and can make almost any drink you can think of. Service was great and friendly. Food was brought out fast and was asked plenty of times if we needed anything. Prices range from 13 – 20 for meals and normal price for apps I feel. Overall it was a pleasant experience and will surely be back to try some of the items on their menu. Oh forgot they have daily specials everyday that chance everyday. How often do you find that in a place

Reliable«blue plate» style food. Nothing fancy; your typical family style restaurant with large portions. Often has live music in the bar. Often packed with 50&60-somethings. A couple non-macro beers on tap. They do take-out, which is generally our preference. The best part: their wood fired pizza! We like to order the buffalo chicken with spinach and ask for it «well done». Definitely the best take-out pizza around.

There aren’t even any words… Pam, the server, you do not belong waiting on tables!!! My girlfriend is a server and she was absolutely horrified at the experience. Paid almost $ 100 for frozen food and watered down drinks. Never again!!!

Do you like frozen food? Moldy restaurant? Outdated décor? Lousy waitstaff? If so, this is the place for you! The meals are ridiculously overpriced! They serve frozen vegetables and entrees. When I asked if my chicken was fresh the waitress«didn’t know» so she checked. Took a HALFHOUR to come back. We were starving because we barely touched our inedible food. The waitress confirmed the chicken and vegetables were frozen. Hah! They charge above average pricing for crap! The décor is seriously awful, most of it hasn’t been dusted in what looks like over a decade. I am allergic to mold and noticed I was symptomatic upon arriving. I inquired with waitstaff and they confirmed there is a mold problem. Lovely. Place should be shut down by the board of health.

3rd visit, Sunday, 5:15 pm. I sat at the bar, 8 – 10 empty seats. I asked for a menu, but had to find my own. After 25 minutes, and no service, I left. The bartender catered to 6 elderly patrons, who were not at the bar, and ignored her station. I really wanted to try Eileen’s shrimp, but I spent $ 45 elsewhere.

I’m writing this review as promised… my last visit to the tavern was on a busy Friday night; I wasn’t ready to eliminate them based on one bad experience. The service in the lounge was great, the bartender made some tasty cocktails, and the food was up to snuff. I had the chicken saltimbocca, which was packed with flavor, and perfectly cooked. My sisters had the haddock, and cleaned their plates with enthusiasm. The piano player nicely covered some retro tunes, and the stove took the chill from yet another snowy night. I’m back as a happy customer.

The Tavern is my favorite restaurant. I have never had a better meal or more options on a menu. Their stuffed mushrooms are delicious. The baked fish tasted like it was caught today. Their butternut squash is so sweet. Can’t wait to return. A guaranteed good meal no matter what you order. Great service. They bend over backwards to satisfy their customers. Better than going into Providence or Boston. Five stars.

Maybe I’m used to a different kind of brunch but rating it «Meh. I’ve experienced better» is an understatement. The made to order veggie omelet and broccoli quiche were bland and the eggs benedict was just on the burner too long. Although I didn’t try their prime rib, one glance at the carving station at the almost all brown meat quickly confirmed that it was pretty much cooked all the way through. I had a couple servings of the oven roasted potatoes and called it a day. Even their coffee was completely watered down. All of this after a 30 minute wait. Totally a conundrum. The only saving grace was the super cheery server who was attentively making sure we had our condiments, plenty of dishwater coffee and our plates cleared.

I got to the restaurant at 8:45 on Wednesday night standing there waiting to be sat while I found that they close the kitchen at 9 o’clock and being there for so long he said we weren’t able to take care of you.

Tavern has always been a sort of hidden gem, but the packed lot every week speaks to what is going on inside. The place just has great food and also recently opened a custom brick oven and both are just outstanding. There are specials every day and they are all completely legit. I’m talking the entire menu. On top of that they are now an old school pizza place too. Here is the first one I got, just fantastic and old country:

We were very happy with our choice to stop here for dinner. The artichoke appetizer was delicious! We enjoyed two choices from their specials for the night, chicken saltimbocca & and a spinach/ricotta/tomato pizza. Our server was nothing special(when the pizza finally made it to our table 10 min after the saltimbocca, no acknowledgement of the onions on the pizza I asked for without) but the great meal made up for it. I would definitely recommend the Tavern!
