I have been eyeing this place for what seems to be years now. I finally walked into this lovely BYOB restaurant today for lunch. First off this place is super clean unlike some of my other favorite BYOB Chinese restaurants. Tables are nice the floors and bathrooms as well are nice and clean. Let’s get to the important part. My group and I tried a plethora of goodies off the menu. We tried the barbecue pork, The duck/chicken lunch special, the fried pork and the fried dumplings today. All were fantastic. The spicy fried pork is a must-have as well as the barbecue pork. Their duck has a lovely twist of spice that I cannot quite put my finger on yet but it is definitely better than most Peking ducks out there. The fried dumplings or light and crispy as they should be. Overall this place is a secret gem for a BYOB restaurant.

Love this place! I have not found anything negative about this place. People are so kind and best sweet n sour shrimp I’ve have. Portions are very generous too

I go here pretty often with my family and I like the food here. The food always comes out piping hot and it all tastes super fresh. The duck is always on point and super crispy with the right amount of fat. And the service is really good and friendly and if you need help they’ll be sure to point out great suggestions

Sophie is the best. My parents have been coming here for years and she takes such good care of them. The meats are always tender and the tofu is amazing. Try the Japanese tofu, you won’t be sorry. Whenever I come to town I come here with my parents to have a healthy and fresh Chinese meal. It’s a family-run establishment and they always make a point to come by the table; you can even see the owner’s kids politely having dinner here as well. They are so sweet. We love coming here! You know it’s a great place eat when you see all cultures here enjoying the cuisine! If you aren’t experienced w Chinese food, just ask for a recommendation – they’ll be happy to give you a suggestion, there’s something for everyone here.

Really bland food. Flavors were uninteresting. I would never go there again.

My family and I are regulars at this restaurant but lately we’ve noticed that the quality is gone down hill a bit. Although service is great the taste seems to have changed in that the flavor lacks spices. The soup has become watery and without flavor. Even my wife, who’s a fan of this restaurant has expressed some concerns about the quality.

Very authentic Cantonese food! Especially for the roast duck and roast pork, the best ever in the states that I’ve tried so far!

I heard this restaurant is Cantonese authenticated so I recommended my family to come here for dinner to celebrate my mom’s early birthday. Our 23 years regular is the Canton Restaurant in Richardson and they never fail us except their price keep on increasing. My mom loves Peking duck and the only time we could eat it was when we visited Houston or Falls Church. Indeed the Peking duck here was very good(5 stars). Unfortunately all of the other dishes we ordered were not. It was our first time here so we didn’t know this restaurant makes Peking duck in 2 ways. I wish the waitress had told us about it. All we got was a dish of mostly duck skin with barely meat attached. I asked the waitress where were the meat and she brought out a dish of stir fried bean sprouts with the Peking duck meat. Geez, I could easily make that at home. I came here for Peking duck so I rather eat it the traditional way.(–1 star) Anyhow, the clams with black bean sauce(C25) was bad, the clams were sour and mushy; tasted like dead clams(–2 stars). The salt and pepper shrimps(C9), stir fried beef and scallion(808), spicy pork chops(703), stir fried bean curds with vegetables(D8), and stir fried watercress and garlic(D11) were edible but nothing special. After we paid the bill, the waitress brought us free dessert. Each of us got a small bowl of refreshing cold taro tapioca(+1 star). Regardless, we would come back again for the yummy Peking duck.

I am liking this place more each time I come. We tried the fish filet with bean curd hot pot(G10 on the menu). My husband the carnivore, upon hearing the bean curd, which was tofu, weren’t sure about that. But when he saw the hot pot sitting on a candle and the nice pieces of fish in the pot, he approved after trying. Fine with me that he eats most of the fish while I enjoyed the tofu pieces and vegetables. We also tried the Peking style pork chop. It’s basically fried pork chop with a reddish sweet gravy. The meat was moist and tender. Another dish we had was the sizzling beef with black pepper sauce. Mmm yummy. The waitress poured the black pepper sauce over the beef and onions on the sizzling plate right at our table. Again the food stayed hot through the whole meal. Service was friendly, although a bit slow, probably because on a weeknight they didn’t expect a lot of people, but somehow they had a two big table party showing up for dinner. But they did their best and whatever requests we had they took care of us. Oh and the complimentary Chinese sweet soup dessert at the end of the meal was a nice touch to end the meal. This is a great casual place for a family dinner. Not that it’s fancy, but definitely better than the other Chinese BBQ restaurants in the area.

Filthy, bad food, and(even) worse service. Sun Lok Kee is quite possibly the worst restaurant in Plano. I walked in around 2pm on a Friday. There was not a clean table in the restaurant; the 6 employees never lifted a finger to clean tables the entire time I was there. I bring this up because it shows how little emphasis management places on cleanliness – I’d hate to see how dirty the kitchen was. I ordered roasted duck and chicken combination. It took 30 minutes to get my lunch, and they completely forgot my soup appetizer – no apologies. The hot and sour soup was decent… after it finally arrived. As for the chicken, it had a very bad flavor as if it was rancid or rotten before it was cooked. The duck was a bit better, but it was still very dry. My tea was never refilled despite the fact I was one of only 4 customers in the place. So after this frustrating experience, I walked up to the counter where the«server» was sitting down texting. I gave her my credit card, to which she said«we take credit cards only if the bill is over $ 10.» I asked her if it was posted on the door. «No but it’s posted here,» as she pointed to a 3 inch sign next to the register. Pretty deceptive to not list it at the door. But she said she’d do me a favor and take the card this time around. Wow, thanks… you’re actually going to take my money for rotten food and terrible service in a filthy restaurant – please no more favors. I won’t be back.

My family and I ordered and ungodly amount of dishes for a family of 4, including: eggplant, seafood hot pot, bbq pork, duck, whole fish, sweet and sour pork, fried noodles and pork belly. One of my biggest pet peeves when ordering any type of food is it coming out luke warm. Everything came out piping hot and everything tasted fresh. The bbq pork was the only thing that tasted a bit tough, but the food was a solid four stars. As far as customer service goes, it seems to be hit or miss. Our waiter was attentive and although didn’t refill our drinks unless hunted down and asked, he was very polite and tried to accomodate my starving family. But the restaurant was completely packed around 6:30 and there were only two waiters. One table ordered and had not received any dishes in over 30 minutes, which is rare. Most Chinese restaurants start handing out dishes as soon as their done. They complained over and over again but nothing ever came out. Also, the place only has three high chairs, but all three chairs were broken. TIPS: If you don’t speak Mandarin, you can still come here to enjoy the food because their menu is completely translated into English. The weirder the translation, the better it tastes. Also, if you come on a weekend, try to make it in by 5:30. Any time after that, the restaurant will be crowded. It’s small to begin with.

I came by with my parents today upon a recommendation from one of my mom’s friends, and I think this will be a new spot in our restaurant rotation! We left stuffed and with plenty of leftovers. Among the three of us, we shared: a roast pork + BBQ pork combo, wonton soup, garlic tossed vegetables, and honey walnut shrimp. Of these, my favorites were the roast pork(nice and crispy with just the right layers) and the honey walnut shrimp. None of the dishes were necessarily the best I have ever had, but I thought everything was done well, and we were all happy with the meal!

Coming from Southern California my hopes weren’t too high about eating here. We ordered online and the staff was very friendly, especially the delivery person. The food was decent. It definitely scratched the Chinese Food itch for me. I would eat here again I think that eating in would probably make the food a lot better.

One of my favorites in the area! I get really disgusted by Dallas Cantonese food in general, but this place is definitely the best . The good: The char siu and the crispy pork(is that the English translation?) are amazing. I also love their braised duck wings, but that’s a special menu item meaning the kitchen will make it if they feel like so if you don’t see it sitting out, you are out of luck. The bad: Food takes a while if it’s crowded. I don’t have much patience once I order so my opinion on this might not be the nicest. It’s definitely A LOT better than Taipei Station. I honestly don’t really remember anything horrible in regards to the food. There was a few just okay/bland dishes. Their worst offense is that their salt consistency is non-existent. I think that’s pretty common in Asian restaurants though because cooks just throw salt into the wok without truly measuring it. I guess I rather have some of my dishes salty than all of them.(I never understand why restaurants especially the new hot ones are so heavy on salt. Salt is not a substitute for flavoring! I digressed.) Lastly, this place is on the expensive side for Chinese food.

This review is for a delivery order. I just recently moved from the SF Bay Area and I was craving Chinese food. I got the following: 3 Meat Combo(roast duck, bbq pork and roast pork) — overall, the pieces that I received were the better pieces(not the boney/fatty parts). But the pieces I got still had a lot of fat. It’s not as great as the restaurants in CA, or my family’s but it’ll do. Crispy Noodles(with chicken) — this is very comparable to the same dishes in the Bay Area. But I don’t think restaurants can screw this up. I ordered the Chicken Fried Rice but I’m omitting that from my review because I’m not a fan of fried rice. My mom’s is the best and no one can beat that! I was also surprised that they included steamed rice with the order. I didn’t have very high expectations. I was just trying to find a good Chinese restaurant nearby that’s similar to what I’d find at home. So far, this is it. I would order again from this place. I would also like to go to the restaurant.

I have been here several times and really like their food. It is very authentic Cantonese style. A friend pre-ordered the crab rice and it was sooo good. It is large, enough for 4 – 6 people. I have not seen this dish in other Chinese restaurants. The salty fish eggplant stew is my favorite. The stuffed chicken was an interesting dish. A little oily since it was fried with rice inside but was tasty. The bbq pork skin was crispy so that’s a good sign. Will come again to try the other dishes.

This Chinese food restaurant is a regular for me and my family, it has all the traditional staples of a Cantonese cuisine, including Chinese BBQ. The food is pretty good, being one of many around the Plano area. The place is a little small, so if you have a large party, you probably should call ahead. Service is a little lacking, partly because I think its a family-ran restaurant. The price is decent and they have good portions. My favorites are the Peking duck, and the salt and pepper fried pork chops. I would recommend this place.

My father was a really well known chef in the chinese restaurant world in dallas, and growing up we never really eat at other chinese restaurants, for one reason only, they just were not as good. But now that he is retired, we’ve started to goto these restaurants, and this is one of the regulars which my family now goes to. The food is pretty good and at a decent price, but what chinese food isnt cheap or the amount? definitely recommend

I am changing my rating to just 3-stars after a frustrating experience with our most recent visit here. We came here to celebrate Mother’s Day… and prior to coming here we had called in earlier in the week asking if we could order/reserve some Peking Duck. The person on the phone said we did not need to order Peking Duck ahead of tmie and that we could just order it when we got there for Mother’s Day. When we arrived at the restaurant and asked about the Peking Duck, they told us that they only serve that Monday-Thursday and offered no apology for giving us the wrong information when we mentioned we had called in earlier in the week. On top of that, service was poor this time around even though at the time… there were only 3 other tables with patrons.

Another Chinese BBQ dining spot to add to our rotation. We were uncertain about the exterior of the place, lending to the notion that it had seen a variety of tenants over the years, but inside was a welcoming chow-down type of place. Lots of families of varying ethnicities in evidence, a sure sign that the food was pretty fine. With a menu of 50+ offerings ranging from vegetarian to proteins like fish, beef, pork and chicken, there’s a dish to suit every taste. While we were hot to try the undocumented specials, but hunger won out and we order right off the menu – steering towards some familiar, and some uncommon ones. For example, instead of our usual young chow rice, we ordered Chinese Broccoli, Smoke Pork & Sausage Fried Rice. All of my comfort fave items in one dish – and it didn’t disappoint – my man and I were shoveling it up as quickly as we could spoon it. My man was also more than fond of the Singapore Style Rice Noodle dish that we ordered – he mentioned it bore more than a passing resemblance to the asian restaurant that he used work in. This noodle dish was a sleeper hit; it became popular with each bite, as we could detect a spiciness growing into a slow burn. How could I not enjoy the cheese shrimp? Sun Lok Kee’s version was the typical crispy fried cheesy version served hot out of the fryer – very very tasty! Less successful were the Hong Kong Style steak and the H.K. Style Seafood. While we’ve tried variants of this dish, Sun Lok Kee’s version is simply a tender beef steak braised in a slightly sweet red sauce and garnished with lots of sauteed onions. It didn’t strike us as particularly special(we preferred First Chinese’s version actually). The HK Style seafood(squid, scallop and shrimp) surprised us as coming out batter fried – the last things on our mind was the typical batter over-used in many a sweet-n-sour dish. Here, it was not weighed down by sauce; but garnished with fried shallots, garlic and fresh sliced jalapenos. It came out greasy tasting, but I was attracted to the fried garnishes. Service was surprisingly amiable and attentive – is it due to the age of the staff serving us, we wondered. Generally, most of the ethnic Cantonese spots tend to be unapproachable, but here at Sun Lok, they came and checked up on us frequently, bringing refills as well. I’m rather baffled by some complaints regarding the menu pricing – does a run-down fast food exterior imply a dollar menu to be had here? I didn’t have such illusions – Sun Lok’s pricing strategy is comparable to many of the Cantonese restaurants in Plano. And they take credit cards, unlike some of the competition. We’ll be back!
