I bought a small stacked cake for a friend’s wedding reception at Willie Mae’s. I am a pastry chef and I wanted to make her cake, but didn’t have time, so I asked her for her favorite bakery. She said«Willie Mae’s.» I bought her cake there. On the way to her house, I held the cake level in my lap while my husband drove — very carefully. The icing proceeded to slough off and the top layer shifted around. There was icing everywhere. Her wedding was in the spring, plus the A/C was on, so heat wasn’t a factor. Once we got to her house, I made some quick repairs and set the cake up in the dining room. The icing continued to slough off overnight, so much that the cake was unuseable the next day. My friend’s husband-to-be went to a grocery store and got another cake to put on the table for the reception. Thinking that the cake part would be better than the grocery store cake, they cut up the Willie Mae’s cake in the kitchen and found that the top(smaller) layer wasn’t properly supported or doweled. After the wedding, my friend called Willie Mae’s to complain, and was treated very badly. Whoever answered the phone offered no apology, but instead was extremely unprofessional and rude to my friend. She told my friend that I obviously didn’t know how to transport a cake! I know how to make a cake, how to ice it, how to decorate it, how to stack it properly, and how to transport it, something the people at Willie’s can’t or won’t do. And I agree with the other reviewer, the place is tired, faded, and dusty.

They were always a terrific bakery. I first went to them when they were in downtown Plano. Great pecan rolls. I thought they were out of business and vacant.

Love this bakery, They did my wedding cakes and now i order the petit fours all the time. I would drive 80 miles just for their praline danish and petit fours.

My favorite bakery is actually Society Bakery in Dallas, but I decided to stop in Willie Mae’s one day because it’s all of two blocks from my home. The shop is a little bare and the display items look older than me, but the actual products are really good. Since my first visit, I have been back for a birthday cake, petit fors for a bridal shower, and numerous times for breakfast goodies. The prices are reasonable and the staff is always helpful. Overall, I’m a fan!
