This place is a hit or miss. Some days the food is good, other days you get the sink water mixture. The waitresses are about the worst. Yes! The worst! This place is what I think they calm in the Caribbean a Rum Shop. Yes you can get some good Caribbean rum. The only good think about this place is there is a Dunkin Donuts in front of it. You can always go there and enjoy a good Donut if you happen to get the sink water mixture. Be warned.

They have great, delicious food. I order the chicken curry with roti and also beef in de ruff regularly. Always delicious! It’s like a dive bar inside, but I do not mind that.

Was looking for Trinidadian food while visiting the area and found this place(did not read any reviews before visiting). Decent place, decent food, decent service, but would not pay a return visit. Just did not have that«wow» factor in any category that makes one pine to go back.

Food is awesome !! Service sucks though. Only thing keeps me going back is authentic taste of the food!

Hibiscus is a lot of things, hopefully I can tell you about some of the things I feel it is. The vegetarian fried rice is the best that this place offers. I tried the vegetable Lou mein but it had a really horrible smell of fish or chicken oil or fat or something, I sense cross contamination in some of their dishes. The Hibiscus is separated into 3 parts. If you don’t have a gps, you may get lost. The fried rice we had was very tasty, I would just go back for that if I happen to be in the area. The vegetable lou mein, like I said reeked of some animal product oil or maybe they don’t use separate woks to cook their food in, I actually gaged at the smell of the vegetable Lou mein. I couldn’t eat it, and ended up throwing it all away, what a waste. I have not tried the other food that they offer just because I got turned off by the vegetable Lou mein. Vegetarians beware of this. The Hibiscus is in 3 parts, the hall, the restaurant, and the lounge/food pick up. I feel that the restaurant aspect of the hibiscus is okay but can use some updating. Some more nicer décor would add a nicer touch. The waitress seems very nice and she was very social. She kept the conversation going and have a very unique personality. The hall looks small compares to some halls I’ve known, but it is a good idea for the business. The exterior of hibiscus needs work and updating. It seems rundown from the outside. The bar/lounge area is very crazy. First I want to talk about 2 women who are usually there, one of the bartenders who has no hair is very rude. She looks like she has no customer service skills and just stares at you from time to time. She is very Un professional, maybe some customer service training would really do her well and maybe give hibiscus a better name. The other lady is shorter and I only see her at the bar area and she is also rude and needs customer service skills. The feel of the bar would be better if the employees working there made it feel welcoming. Other than this. The location of Hibiscus is very tricky. It’s all the way in the back of a plaza and some may even get lost without having a good gps. I give this place 2 stars because of the things I mentioned. The friendly waitress gets a 5 star. If they step their game up with the things I noted, I may give them another try. Not going to be going here anytime soon.

This is a solid 3.8 stars for me rounded to 4, to say it’s a dive is an understatement as it really has that divey quality to it. However, the service was friendly, and the portions plentiful! Trini-Chinese is new to me, and although I’ve had Indian-Chinese before, Trini-Chinese is definitely different. I had two vegetarian options and the fried fish appetizer. The dahl roti was excellent, the fish was great but if you’re not fond of bones you’ll be very unhappy. The aloo and channa and tomato poka were very good. I also drank fresh coconut juice and cream soda which was different from American style cream soda since it was clear. I’ll definitely have to come back and try their other offerings, they have a big menu and the food seems promising. It’s not gourmet by any means but it’s cooked to order, and very flavorful. If you’re not turned off by the divey quality and the slower service(slow because the food takes time to cook) then I suggest giving this a try. You’ll find it’s pretty good.

I used to frequent here a lot and the food is usually very good. Today I decided to stop in because I was close by. As others have mentioned this place is NOT a 5 star restaurant. Infact its a bar and a restaurant and sometimes a club Lol. I walked in today and had to wait about ten minutes. There was NOONE in sight. One older guy walked out from the side 5 minutes in and looked around, tried to call someone, then looked and me and walked back into the hallway. As I was about to get up, the lone waitress comes out and takes my order. I got it pretty quickly due to luck of someone else ordering the same thing and hadn’t come for it yet. The food wasn’t that great anymore. I got the Chicken in the Ruff. It’s not as tasty as i remember it being but you do get a lot of food that can be two meals for someone. It was a good meal though.

Very interesting place. It is the proverbial hole in the wall and is hard to find. It looks sort of like a nightclub(and I think it doubles as one), and at the same time, a restaurant and banquet hall. The people are Trinidadian/Chinese, so you get a variety of choices on the menu. They are very friendly and attentive and open to questions. I have tried a couple of different dishes, but I really like the Chicken in Da Ruff, which seems to be a very popular item off their menu. It is very affordable and you’ll have enough for a dinner portion. It’s a bit far for me and I think I prefer a buffet lunch option, which gives me the chance to try a variety of different dishes, so for this, I give it 3 stars instead of 4. I think they’d do great if they decided to do a lunch buffet, but I am not sure if they ever will. It’s worth suggesting.

So I went here with a friend of mine for dine-in. The place is expansive and yes… sort of crappy looking. It’s apparently a nightclub, restaurant, and bar. Crazy combination since the second I entered what I’m assuming is the main entrance, I had no clue where to go. After mistaking fellow customers for the wait staff, they told me to sit anywhere because they were waiting for their food too lol. Now I’m not quite sure that the waitstaff is on island time, but I do know that it’s crazy having one waitress/bartender man both the restaurant and bar(they’re separated). Several times I saw some old guy come into the restaurant, look around, then go back to I think the kitchen. If that’s the manager, he’s gotta do something because two other customers(two guys) and a big family both complained about the wait for service and their food. I’m going to be biased and give the waitress a pass because she was apologetic throughout the whole thing and very sweet(not to mention beautiful lol). As for the food, it’s Trinidadian/Chinese…and the Chinese is basically a lot of Chinese American type food. Friend of mine had the Fried Pork in Black Bean Sauce… which is basically the same as you can get in any other Chinese restaurant. I got the Cha Chi Kai Fan which is Chinese Fried Chicken(if you’re familiar, it’s the fried chicken with crispy paper thin skin which you can really only get at authentic Chinese restaurants… this one was an imitation) with char siu(bigger chunks also like at Chinese restaurants) over vegetable fried rice. My dish was decent but mainly best for the price. They also have Trinidadian staples like roti, different curries, and some dishes I’ve never heard of like Fried Banga Mary and Geera Pork. Like others have suggested, go for take out.

Listen up… Hibicus is a divey place. I mean, it’s not dirty or anything, just divey. And the waitresses are slow and kinda bland almost like their on «Caribbean Time,» which would be fine if we were in the Caribbean; however, their food is BOSS… BOSS, I TELL U!!! It’s Trinidadian/Chinese, and if you think that’s a weird combination, you may be right, but this food is HELLAGOOD! I mean, you may need to Google some translations, cuz I’m not Trinidian, so I have no freakin idea what half the stuff was on the menu, but the Chicken in Da Ruff is my ABSOLUTELYFAV! It’s fried chicken with some type of sauce over it and it comes with veggie friend rice. They give you enough chicken and rice to feed a small village, and if you’re greedy like me, you’ll be very happy about that cuz the left overs are twice as good the next day. The Pork in Da Ruff is great as well. Kinda like Chinese BBQ spare ribs but with a better sauce. Oh, and for an appetizer, do yourself a HUGE favor and grab some fried calamari. It’s so delish! Crunchy and tender @ the same time without being too gummy or chewy and topped with a spicy pepper sauce. I’m getting hungry so I’m gonna stop now. Ok… so muster up some patience for the dry-ass, no personality having, incredibly slow/forgetful waitress and go get to HIbicus and have yourself some Chicken in Da Ruff on me(well… not really on me. I’m not gonna pay for it or anything, but GOFORTH)! You’re welcome!

Ok! Their food is tasty, however customer service is the worst. The waitress are rude and not friendly at all.
