As out-of-towner there were not many places that we knew of to grab a bite to eat. After reading many great reviews of the Blue Collar Bistro we decided to take a detour from our original route to stop and marvel at the beautiful interior. The first thing I noticed as I stepped through the door was the delicious smell. Upon sitting down we got a warm welcome and almost immediate service. Seeing many organic restaurants in Vermont, my home town, I was expecting a very ordinary menu. I quickly realized that my impression was incorrect. Each title left my mouth watering and left my stomach growling. I decided on the French onion soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Half of me want to savor each taste-bud exploding, magnificent bite. While the other wanted to guzzle down every bite. Everything was prepared amazingly and service was quick and friendly. I highly recommend it. — Ms. H

The beer selection is this restaurant’s redeeming quality. This place needs a professional chef to highlight the local ingredients. I’ve had the roasted chicken, the Bön mi salad, and the pacatta. Bland, ok, and ok. I only go to the restaurant if I’m craving a Westmalle. C’mon, owner, Blue Collar could meet it’s potential with a little more effort in the Chef’s dept.

My friend and I had lunch here on a snowy Friday afternoon. The restaurant was busy, and we sat at the bar. The service was courteous, but a tad slow. This was most likely due to the busy restaurant. I enjoyed the variety on the menu and was excited that they actually roasted their turkey for their sandwiches instead of using nitrate filled deli meat. I had the market special turkey panini that included avocado, tomato, and herb cream cheese. It was served with a small side of lettuce drizzled with an awesome maple balsamic vinaigrette. It was quite tasty. My friend had the fried cauliflower and the bahn mi salad. She was thrilled with both. I enjoyed atmosphere and the great food. I hope to return for dinner and drinks!

The food here is hit or miss. I’ve had delicious meals and others were just OK or not very good. One time I ordered a traditional breakfast with two eggs, hash browns, sausage and a corn muffin and it came out crammed onto a plate that would have been suitable for a side salad, making it difficult to eat without food spilling over the side. But their biggest problem is likely their service. In the handful of times I’ve come here, I’ve never seen the same waiter or waitress. All of them are inexperienced and don’t seem to know what they’re doing. The restaurant would be greatly improved if the manager hired experienced, attentive waitstaff.

Out service experience was very poor: we got there about 15 minutes before closing time on a Sunday afternoon, and they never hesitated to let us know they were closing. Even though there was a festival going on around the corner, the staff had zero interest in making our lunch a pleasant experience. They were clearly more interested in getting out the door. On the other hand, the food was excellent. I had the Reuben, my wife a delicious«fried green tomato BLT.» Nice beer selection, nice menu. In fact there were too many nice choices to select from.

Pretty yummy. Nice staff, could be a bit more attentive, but overall I’d go here again.

We stopped by here for lunch on our way up to Montréal. We were looking for the typical compromise — someplace that would have food interesting enough for adults, and satisfy the picky paletes of our kids. It took a few minutes to get a table(we wanted a booth and so our waitress needed to clean it off), but she took good care of us throughout the meal. My wife tried the half rack of ribs(dry rub), my older one had the pulled pork sandwich, while the younger one stuck with the Italian classic, pasta(«with only butter»). I had the Buffalo Mac & Cheese. My wife liked the ribs(they came off the bone easily, and had a good flavor), my older daughter loved the sammy — she is a pulled pork fan, so if they could do ribs right, pulled pork should be in their wheelhouse! My younger one had the typical reaction to pasta(«good»). I was a little underwhelmed with the buffalo mac — there was a lot of oil; probably the combination of various cheeses and the buffalo sauce. It was a combination that sounded better in theory. Overall, a great experience!

Fantastic food — fresh and local ingredients. Everything has a unique twist and it’s delicious. We had the Cuban, the pulled pork, the Rubin, and the Bahn Mi burger. Awesome! And affordable. Love.

Good, reasonably priced food. Small, casual atmosphere. A very good place for lunch. the caprese sandwich was good, the iced tea nice and strong. Loved the pecan pie! I ate inside, but outdoor tables are there in warm weather.

If you are ever in this area you can’t miss out on this place! The food is absolutely amazing and at a great price. Don’t leave without trying the homemade maple bacon potato chips! Home cooked style restaurant

Visited this restaurant on a recent trip to Plattsburgh based on the reviews from this site and others. I am so glad I did. I had the chicken & biscuit special and finished every bite! Old fashion chicken gravy recipe with no need for added spices or peppers. The biscuit was a perfectly baked flaky addition to the center of the plate. The service was excellent & I believe it was the owner who also came over to check on my table. I would definitely recommend this place and am looking forward to stopping by again on my next trip upstate.

So first off the service was excellent the girls at the restaurant were friendly and attentive. When we first arrived it was very rushed and hectic but when we got seated our waitress made sure we received our drinks promptly. I was very happy to find out they had elfs hard cider and my dad was happy with his magic hat beer. We started with the buffalo shrimp scampi which were great and tasty with excellent garlic bread. It took about 25 minutes to get them though. For our main course we had to wait about 64 minutes to get. I understand it was busy but that was a little long to wait. For my dads burger he ordered the black and blue which looked great except he received a burger patty that was about 2 inches wide… Definitely not the 1⁄3rd lbs burger they boast, it barely took up half the bun. I ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos and while the insides were awesome the tacos shells were old hard shells that’d you buy in the taco kits in the store. And my moms 17 dollar stack meal was 6 small pieces of steak with fries and no veggies or sauce just ketchup. The one highlight besides service was the pulled pork poutine which was great. Hopefully things continue to improve, I fell that Plattsburgh need better restaurants and I always want to go local but tonight was not the most enjoyable time.

I do not come over to Plattsburgh ever. However this spot seems like a good reason to take a ferry ride. Fresh local ingredients, varied menu, great beer on tap, and unique sangrias… I’m rather happy sitting at the bar chatting with the friendly owner/manager about their fair. Great service!

I’ve visited the Blue Collar Bistro a few times and always find something new I like. The brussel sprout caesar salad is my favorite, hands down. They also have a great selection of beers and some awesome homemade desserts! And themed weekend dinners are available, which is neat and new to the area. Fries do not come with burgers and sandwiches though and cost extra, which is odd. They’re homemade ketchup is different but addicting! Each time we have gone there, it was a waiting game. Food never really came out quick, as if it had been forgotten. The most recent was the brussel sprout caesar not having the brussels pre-cooked from a holiday weekend. We were handed a complimentary orange cilantro Cole slaw for the problem. I also ordered a rare burger and recieved a medium burger, which was very dry. If I could change one big thing about it though, it would be the seating itself. It’s quite uncomfortable for a tall girl with a bad back to sit along the bench with short tables or to sit on wooden stools with a wobbly table. It’s quite crammed in there when it gets busy too. I have a bit of social anxiety and when I have to sit within a foot of a person I don’t know, I get a little uncomfortable.

Delicious meal with quality ingredients, diner is really a misnomer. Salads and soups were simple but amazing and the beer selection was impressive.

Good, but could be better. It’s new and it’s a sandwich type of place in downtown Plattsburgh. It was a little more expensive than I would have figured, but they had good beers.

The atmosphere was pretty nice: modern, bustling, gracefully decorated little bistro with friendly waitresses. However, the service was not that good: it was a long wait for us to get food. Plus, our waitress did not know the menu well. The menu was long. I would personally suggest them to cut the menu so the kitchen can prepare food faster and be more meticulous on every dish. It was somewhat disorganized. Plus, some descriptions should be kept simple and to the point. The food has modern touches, but may be too much. Based on the menu description, Banh Mi was not really Banh Mi(this is how you spell it, not Bahn), and most of the southern dishes were not that southern… I appreciate the fact they tried to make everything healthy though. The complimentary crackers and cheese were not so bad either. We ordered crab cakes and shrimps and grits. From the first bite of the crab cake, we knew it was not fresh. It was a huge let down for a restaurant who said they focus on fresh and local ingredients. My shrimps and grits was a disgusting dish, my friend didn’t even want it. Imagine a bowl flooded with gravy and a few shrimps on top. Mashed potatoes fell apart and were extremely lumpy. The cheese was not well-balanced. I liked the texture of the shrimps though. Make better mashed potatoes, have less gravy, mix the cheese well, the dish will be way better. Stop thinking it’s a soup. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience.
