I wrote a review before and only gave them a 4 because I was overcharged ! But the manager responded right away and apologized and made things right ! I am so impressed that the management really cares about their customers and took care of it right away !!! Their Michigans are the best in town ! Thank you Clare and Carls Sue Hambleton

Wow, have driven past over the years but this time stopped in for lunch. The hot dog with sauce, onions and mustard was the best I have ever had. Will stop in next time we visit for sure. Great service, great food. Thanks for serving us Phil.

Wonderful charming place, excellent service & excellent hot dogs with meat sauce. A must stop if in the area. Car hops offer carside service food brought directly to your vehicle. I thoroughly enjoyed my «Michigan» hot dog.

Great little place on the side of the road. Tiny but quaint. Great burgers and dogs. Good service. I will go back for sure.

This is a must– do for the Plattsburgh experience. Ask any local and you will get the story about the sauce rivalry, which is an ongoing town drama. The food here is greasy and cheap. If you haven’t had a michigan, it’s THE place in Plattsburgh to really experience their glory. Or have a burger and fries. This is probably not the place to try anything exotic. The eatery itself is also super fun to visit, dilapidated and nearly sinking into the ground. It’s very picturesque and towny, with a nice outdoor seating area.

Stopped in at Clare & Clare’s while visiting my brother-in-law and his family who live on Lake Champlain. I like trying regional specialties while traveling, and in this part of NY State, it’s Michigans — also called Texas Red Hots. Clare & Carl’s appears to have changed little since it opened in the 1950s. The small restaurant features a horseshoe lunch counter and lots of authentic Coke memorabilia. And it’s immaculate. The reviewer from Burnt Hills, NY did a fantastic job capturing the taste and texture of the meat sauce. I think she’s right on. I’ll add that I like the spicy bite of the sauce. It’s more flavorful than Gus’s, another 50-something Michigan hot dog establishment on the north side of Plattsburgh. This is not my favorite hot dog. I prefer grilled or deep fried dogs to the boiled served here(NYC pushcart«dirty water dogs» are the exception). And they lack the spice of the hot dogs I grew up with. But I’m not going to argue with 60+ years of tradition. Service is great and we struck up conversation with a few locals at the lunch counter who shared their knowledge and opinions about Michigans and the various places in the area that serve them. Clare & Carl’s serves up a tasty genuine regional hot dog that you should not miss. Let me know what you think of this review by clicking the appropriate button below.

There is only one red hot, and it is found nowhere else besides Clare & Carl’s. Have never had a bad experience there in my 23 years of eating there.

One of the true tastes of summer. Clare & Carl’s has another location by the marina, but it’s just not the same. You’ve got to go to the ramshackle original with the horseshoe counter, the picnic area, the outhouse washrooms, and the car service. It’s worth going for the neon sign alone. We’ve tried all the major Michigans outfits in Plattsburgh, and C & C is by far and away our favorite, for the ambiance and for their Michigans. Get ‘em with the onions«buried» and don’t shy away from the mustard. Their fries are not so hot, but they do have a decent coleslaw, and, really, let’s be honest, it’s all about the Michigans.

One of the best Michigans(specialty hot dog with delicious meat sauce) in Plattsburgh area — décor is a little shakey, but don’t be deterred — ONLY open seasonally– a must try if you are in the Plattsburgh area Gus and McSweeney are two other michigan establishments open year round

This building has been a Texas Red Hot stand since I was a kid in the late ‘50s. The Michigan’s are outstanding. Something I truly missed since I moved to Connecticut. Just nothing like these Hot Dogs from Clare and Carl’s. Yes, it looks like it’s a building ready to fall in on itself, but it’s been like this for many, many years. I’m sure they pay good money to have the building look like this. Stop on in and enjoy this great establishment. You won’t be disappointed.

I used to eat here as a kid. Its been almost 30 years since I have been back to Plattsburgh. I was really glad to see the place hadn’t changed. Sure, it looks run down(I had to really twist my wife’s arm to get her in here and assured her that they work hard to keep the place looking the way it does). All the cars packing the drive through helped. Once she tried a Michigan she realized why I have been raving about Clare and Carls.
