Visited Sweet Tomatoes on New Years Eve 2015(Yay! They were open until 8pm!). As a child I was a frequent visitor to it’s counterpart in Southern California– Souplantation. Everything was a tasteful and delicious as I remember. As a person of habit, I always eat through the same rounds starting with plates of the delicious salads in front. The rest of the salad bar always has many ingredients for all taste palettes, and very accommodating for dietary restrictions(i.e. gluten free, dairy free, etc). You pay for the meal at the end of the salad bar. While the price has unfortunately gone up throughout the years, $ 12.29 now, it’s still reasonable for a buffet. Many many soup options, and baked potato ingredients. Was never a fan of their pasta(always bland and tasteless). Wanted to give it another shot since I haven’t been here in awhile. But still a weak point. Maybe because it was New Years Eve and there were less staff on hand, but there was a shortage of bowls and spoons around the dessert area. Leading to a confused head spinning customer looking for soup bowls and spoons to fill ice cream with. The waiters were all very professional and prompt at clearing the plates on our table for a better dining experience. Overall a reminiscent and fun experience. Would come again.

This place is alright. I have been plenty of times and at one point, I stopped visiting there all together. At that time, the place was an absolute mess, there were counters with food on them during my entire visit. This last time I went, just a few weeks ago, I gave ST another chance and it looked like they had the place adequately staffed and it was pretty clean. There were still some areas of the restaurant that need attention. The salad bar is my least favorite food part, there is never enough exciting salads being offered. I would love some seasonal options, bring out the cranberries! Anyway, the soups and the cheesy breads are my favorite and what I return for. They have a wide selection of soups, from chili to chicken noodle. They also have a fun cheesy bread selection, plain and also with tomato. Anyway, I’ll return but have my reservations about the salad bar and the cleanliness.

I am not crazy about buffet or salad bars. But I had to meet some friends here and it was super busy. I mean the place was bumping and the clientele was a little on the low brow side as they usually are at All you can eat places. The staff was hard at work though putting food out, being friendly, cleaning tables so no fault with them at all. The food(salad) was ok. There were some items that I had with me to show to my friends and when the 2 ladies at the table next to us saw, she interrupted us and proceeded to ask me to give her the items, then when I declined she asked to buy them. It was awkward to say the least.

I really like this place. It is just like Fresh Choice. I like this place for dinner as apposed to lunch because there is less of a crowd. Also there seems to be more options later in the day. Came here for lunch today and there were no Potatoes, sweet or otherwise. Sad face. They always have a really big selection of soup which i like. They are primarily vegetarian and vegan, but they also have soups with meat and bacon bits. I just put bacon on everything and I feel better. Minus one star for not having potatoes.

Sweet Tomatoes: You guys never fail to amaze me when I want to feel healthy and eat a salad once a month. I recommend coming here for dinner time. Get a coupon online and you get a free drink with your meal. I don’t think it needs a review, because everyone has been here lol For those who need an opinion: The veggies and food here are usually pretty fresh. Which is why this place is probably my favorite ayce restaurant in the area.

We really like when restaurants offer salad bars. You can make your own, add or bypass what you like or don’t and during the warmer summer months it’s a great«cool» option for dining. That being said, keep in mind this is a chain restaurant. Don’t get me wrong, we were happy when Sweet Tomatoes opened years ago. We have frequented the place on many, many occasions & have found the selections good. The salad selections are always kept chilled and are always fresh. The bread/baked items are always solid choices, as well as the soups & potato bar. The desserts fall a little short, in our opinion, as does the pasta bar. There are a couple things which limit this Unilocal rating to only 3 stars; 1) the price is pretty high for salad/soup/bread/pasta(if you have a coupon it reduces cost somewhat), 2) & the tables, floors and the dining area could be kept a bit cleaner. So if you like salad bars, go give a try and see what you think. But find a coupon if you can, it’ll make the sticker shock of the price tag a little easier. ;-)

Soup. Salad. If you are looking for more than don’t come here. If you aren’t, this is the place to go. It’s a buffet! They also have soft serve and macaroni and cheese. And bread and pizza for the kids. Yum! They did raise their prices though, I think it’s around $ 11. Love this place!

My kids love this place. We came here starving after a full day of Waterworld in Concord. The all you can eat salad, pasta, desserts make this a family hit. You can’t go wrong with the desserts, brownies, and mac and cheese. My kids loved it. I particularly liked the cream of mushroom soup. Service is fast and our dishes were cleared pretty quick.

All you can eat for salad, soup, pasta, limited desserts. Overall, it’s decent and a good place for unlimited food. I was not disappointed with my lunch, but I’m not a fan of all you can eat places. My favorite was the soft serve ice cream in a bowl. They have limited toppings for their ice cream. Also, they offer oranges, apples, chocolate mousse, jello and rice pudding. The salad bar has quite a large selection to choose from, and offers something for everyone. I can’t comment on their pasta dishes or baked bread items, however, a large variety is offered. Too much carbohydrates for my preference. There is big a selection of soups, and the clam chowder soup was pretty good. They serve baked potatoes too. If you look on the internet you can find a coupon. I found a coupon for lunch(no drink) for $ 8. and if you don’t have a coupon… they offer seniors 60 years old + 10% off from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A popular place for lunch.

Came here with friends after a fun day at Sky High jumping on trampolines for 2 hours. I have been here once before, but was probably over 3 years ago. Not too bad a place, but I wouldn’t voluntarily suggest coming here with a group of friends as I myself am not a fan of eating just soup, bread and salads. That being said, food was actually pretty good. I helped myself to a little bit of salad and saved most of my stomach for the soup and baked items. I partook in the clam chowder the most as it tasted very good, but didn’t try any of the other soups as I had no interested. I was hoping they had broccoli and cheese soup, but it was not meant to be. There bread selection isn’t too diverse either with basically a bunch of cheesy bread and a bunch of sweet baked items. Wish they had a few more options as that would have added a star to my rating. There were 3 pasta selections and none of them looked all that appetizing. Wish they looked a bit more fresh. Looked as if they had been out there a while. They also have soft serve ice cream with ridiculously tiny cones. What’s the point. Once I pulled the lever for the soft serve, it was already dripping on my hand because it plopped all over the cone and down the sides since it’s so small. Decent place if you want to gorge on soup, salad, and bread, but not the place for me.

275th review for this place. I wanted to rate this place better but really can’t do so based on our dining experience. First, the food — very mediocre compared to what I remember of Sweet Tomatoes’ offerings back 6 years ago when I had it in San Jose. We don’t have a ST in our area, so maybe I had higher expectations, but Soup Plantation(the SoCal version of ST) is supposed to be so good and ST was a real disappointment this time. I came with hubby and two toddlers after a long day at Tilden Park and we were starving. Even so the food didn’t taste any better despite our hunger. The salad bar was quite disappointing. I was able to be creative and make a decent salad, but the pre-made salads like the tuna one had no perceivable pieces(or even hardly any slivers) of tuna at all. The crunchy wonton salad tasted the best, I guess that’s not saying much b/c that’s like the vegetarian version of what a Chinese chicken salad would’ve been but ST is too cheap to include any protein in any of their pre-made salads at all. Moving onto the hot food, there’s the pizza/baked flat breads and those were ok but not particularly flavorful, just a lot of bread. They LOOKED good but tasted bland. The pasta bar was worse. I tasted a bit of my toddler’s mac n cheese and no wonder she didn’t even care to finish her mac n cheese though she usually loves that(which toddler wouldn’t?). The other two choices were some kind of basil herb pasta and a tomatoes based one and neither looked appealing at all so I didn’t even try either one, I got a bit of the tomatoes one for my toddler and she didn’t finish that one either. =( The only things that were good were the bakery items. My hubby was so disappointed with the entrees that he pretty much only ate the baked goods. He liked the blueberry muffin which had a very moist blueberries filled center and pretty generous w/the blueberries. I enjoyed a chocolate chip muffin which was pretty good too. We both slathered our muffins w/honey whipped butter… mmm… the toddler enjoyed some of our muffins and the cherry cobbler which was a seasonal limited time offering. I didn’t try the soft serve but my hubby pointed out the super tiny cone, at least my toddler thought it was just right for her size. Later on, he made a sundae b/c he said the cone didn’t hit the spot being as tiny as it was. We didn’t try the soup as they looked ok but we didn’t want to fill up on soup. The only thing that I did do(and saw other people do) was try to get some protein out of the chicken noodle soup. At least those chunks of chicken provided some energy and they were tender and flavorful. Sad that I had to resort to scooping chicken out of the soup to get some protein since the whole place was just filled to the brim w/carbs and that’s not healthy at all. Yes, there’s the veggies but man cannot live by bread(and veggies) alone! As my husband would say, «Show me the meat!» =D Disappointed and not coming back b/c even the carbs and veggies offerings weren’t that good. I also wanted to mention that the mgr tried to be helpful but was sarcastic and not really friendly and the staff looked either bored, afraid, or just plain miserable(for example, one lady had a look of: «I hate working here!»). =(

Come in with a coupon for lunch and your AYCE lunch could be as cheap as $ 9.95/person. Not bad at all for an AYCE location. You can get the coupons from the mail OR you can sign up for their free e-newsletter. I LOVE Sweet Tomatoes(Soup Plantation for all you Southern California folks). The Chinese Chicken Salad is phenomenal and I once told my husband that I can eat just that for the rest of my life. Every time I visit Sweet Tomatoes, I always come back for a second helping of this salad. Obviously the salad bar is what people come for. I’m in love with it and make sure to pile up my plate! It’s salad… so negative calories! Lol. The New England Clam Chowder is super good, too. That’s also a must. I love the bread selection. The bread varieties tend to be fresh when I come here — they’re best fresh out of the oven because they’re warm and soft to chew on. The cheesesticks are also wonderful. I dip them into my chowder. The baked potato section is complete — sour cream, shredded cheese, chives, whipped butter, and bacon bits. Dessert? Chocolate and rainbow sprinkles, crushed Oreos, granola, and crushed peanuts. They have small bowls to use as well as miniature cones. Trust me, they’re miniature.

A decent selection of greens for the salad bar. The place was relatively clean. Prices are affordable. The hot selections were very limited. The pasta were not very good.

My fiancé and I love Sweet Tomatoes. It is a healthier, more balanced method of indulging in a buffet-style meal. Sweet Tomatoes starts with a salad which you create on your own in the initial line. Lots of toppings to choose from… veggies galore! I always fill my plate up to the brim. Hey, you are paying for it, so go for it! You can never have too much spinach. There are vegetarian, vegan and options containing meat/fish, so really anybody with any kind of diet restriction can enjoy different options here, and I really appreciate that. They even have some items that are gluten free if you’re into that. There are all sorts of additional food items once you make through the initial line. There will be baked potatoes/toppings, soups(again– some are vegan, some are vegetarian and others are not), breads, muffins, pizza(yessssssssss), jello, fruits, pastries, and don’t forget dessert! You can indulge just a bit more with some vanilla/chocolate/swirl soft serve. I personally love the rainbow sprinkles. Guilty pleasure. Actually, no guilt. Those things rule.

I love coming to sweet tomatoes. It’s exactly the same concept as all the old Fresh Choices were but I think the quality here is vastly superior. Scratch made soups, fresh salads, pasta and delicious baked goods ranging from bread to brownies. Every month highlights a different flavor profile so you can always find something different from last month. The last month I went the highlighted flavor was lemon so there was lemon pasta, soups, lemon muffins, the works. Everything is buffet style so you can eat as much as you’d like. All in all because of the variety and changing menus it’s hard to highlight specific items but I always enjoy the chicken noodle soup and tuna taragon pasta salad. Check online for coupons because they are always running promotions so you can get yourself a cheaper meal. Worth every penny.

The is a really nice salad bar buffet spot, there aren’t a ton of buffet choices, but the food is good and the raspberry drink that’s sweetened with stevia tastes AMAZING! The soups are good, they had pizza there, and seasoned rice. As well as muffins & bread. The price isn’t too bad either, it was about $ 10 per person!

Ever since I moved to California from Texas, I’ve been living in a tiny studio apartment with only a mini-fridge to keep food in. Consequently, the amount of fresh vegetables I can have at home is severely restricted. On a good day, I only have lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and maybe some croutons available to make salads with. All of the salads I make at home are really lame. I write about my living situation to give insight into why I was so impressed with Sweet Tomatoes. When I looked down the table of salad items, the choices seemed endless. I felt like a kid who had previously only had four crayons and was handed a 96-pack of fresh Crayolas. I was ready to make a masterpiece. All of the ingredients available at the salad bar were fresh and flavorful. There was nothing that I wanted for my salad that I could not find. I had spinach, lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, celery, blue cheese crumbles, olives, tomatoes, croutons, bell peppers, jalapenos, and maybe even a few more things which all tasted great. I was also impressed with the soups. The clam chowder was surprisingly good and actually had an acceptable amount of clam in it. I did add oyster crackers and bacon bits to the soup, so those enhanced the taste further. In addition to the chowder, I tried the curry bisque. To me, it tasted exactly like and had the consistency of panang curry sauce. While the first sip tasted good, there’s no way I could have finished a whole bowl of it. The pastas didn’t seem very special, so I skipped them. Dessert was really good too. I had some soft serve ice cream, but I saw that they had plenty of fresh fruit and some brownies as well. There seem to be a lot of reviews complaining about the service. This is puzzling to me, because I never had to interact with anyone who worked there the entire time(it is a buffet after all), so I’m not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. Overall, I really enjoyed the preponderance of fresh salad ingredients and the tasty clam chowder. I’d definitely be willing to come back again.

I have just one question… WHY is there no Sweet Tomatoes here in Reno, Nevada?! Seriously! I am a SUCKER for salad bars and buffets and this one tops them all! Fresh ingredients and variety are something you can count on coming here. First you grab a plate and fill it with salads… now, there are many to choose from! Everything from freshly tossed, specialty salads to the typical build your own, the cold salad bar is definitely not lacking, and that is just the beginning… After finding a table, and placing our«be right back» place markers, we were able to go back and get our drinks… everything from sodas to teas to lemonades and even strawberry lemonade, there are plenty of choices there too. After finishing the salads we piled on our plates, we ventured on to the rest of the hot bars to see what was available. Homemade pasta dishes, pizza’s, baked potato station and soups… SO many soups!!! Lobster Curry Bisque… mushroom…chicken noodle, clam chowder and so much more! The soup section was my favorite! They also have warm desserts like molten lava brownies and then also cookies, a soft serve«ice cream» station(dairy free) and a fresh fruit section too… I almost pitched a tent and stayed there! All I can say is, IF a Sweet Tomatoes were to ever open in Reno Nevada, not only would you have a serious patron for life, but I would gather a serious following of friends and family who would also become regulars! Just saying… make it happen!

Never had a problem with this location– prefer it over the other local ones. Salad bar is always fully stocked with large variety. Soups always filled to the top. Pasta always plentiful. Sometimes the dessert bar lacks quantity, but it still has everything. Staff is really nice and accommodating if you ask them for anything Sign up for email club to get coupons!
