Plain Folk is always a pleasure. Friendly and casual with a dining deck out back. A community park next door offers a playground just a few steps away giving the grand kids a place to burn off some energy while we finish our meal. I like their chicken salad on health nut bread. Everything is served with 2 sides

So we came here for breakfast one morning and TOTALLY dig the vibe of this PFC. It’s in an old schoolhouse, and they have kept the chalkboards and room divider which lends a cool rustic vibe. A very hippie type place– complete with ridiculously friendly staff.
Breakfast was good, biscuits and gravy and breakfast burrito– not the best I’ve ever had but it was good and they also have homemade jams/​jellies which was really cool. They also have lunch/​dinner, draft beer, and an outdoor area to eat (and a place for kids to play) — can’t wait to come back and try the specialty grilled cheese menu :)

Great ambiance and experience. Super friendly and welcoming staff. Clean and casual.
Good variety of good foods. Say they specialize in grilled cheeses, though they are really just all kinds of regular sandwiches just focused on starting with the cheese, which I respect as a cheese lover. The Fat Tire cheese dip with 3 smaller soft pretzels was great. Cute crinkled panini «fries» (my description) was a cute add on to the tasty cheesy broccoli soup special. I had a good cranberry and almond salad to lighten up all the delicious cheese. Hubby got tasty soup too and club panini which he enjoyed.
GOOD KIDS MENU options INCLUDE A FRUIT CUP option instead of chips as a side. Milk for the kids too and mine enjoyed the cheese quesadilla.
Bathrooms were fine and stocked though nothing fancy and women’s needs a hook for purses. NO CHANGING TABLE either which is fine for a music venue but not as helpful for families out for breakfast or lunch.
Nice modern PLAYGROUND and cute OUTDOOR SEATINGwould have kept me there for hours enjoying a beer or cider if weather had been warmer. Eating in an old two room school house was a great unique experience in an adorable small town. Highly recommend!

Plain Folk Café was great today. Went on a recommendation from a coworker and was glad I listened. Had the Hippie Hash for the first time and it was great. Ham and potato soup awesome! Mom had the chef salad and loved it. Will absolutely be back! Thanks!!!

So close and yet I don’t know if I’ll go back.
I really wanted to like this place. It’s only a few miles from my house too.
I stopped in today for take out. Bowl of chili and a club sandwich.
The chili was meaty as promised but had almost no flavor other than sweet. Really disappointing.
The sandwiches: American cheese and store bought bread? You could do so much more

I did try a bit of the strawberry grapefruit jam. It was delicious.

Best kept secret in the area. Enjoyed breakfast great value, tasty and unique. The biscuits and gravy are outstanding. Very quaint atmosphere an old schoolhouse.

This is such a quaint, fun little place! But if you want good food and a place to communicate, this really isn’t the place. I was really disappointed with the food, personally. I really, really enjoyed how kind the owners and employees are; they do make everyone feel welcome! The place just seemed sort of disorganized and made me feel anxious just to get through my meal.
If you are coming here, it’s most likely just for some good music and to drink!

Laid back place, part self serve with counter ordering & drinks. Food is brought to your table when prepared. Place is an old two room school house that now has a stage at one end for live music and a nice deck out back for warmer weather. Food ranges from traditional breakfast fare to sandwich and such.

I try to get down here at least twice a month. The owners are super friendly, Vicki will remember you, and make a point to see whats going on if you stop by regularly. They almost always have some sort of live music or something taking place and that is really the main focus here. You can always check their facebook page, which they update regularly, for scheduled bands.
My favorite meal is the plate of nachos when I’m really hungry or the midnight special if I’m in the mood for grilled cheese. All the meals are very reasonably priced. This place is also very family friendly if you have little kids.
Parking is the biggest issue and really isn’t even a problem, just park at the church across the street if the lot is full, the lot of the café holds maybe 10 cars.

Love this place, the people are beyond friendly and the atmosphere is lively and there is usually music as well!

Plain folk is so awesome! Love the Plate-​O-​Nachos! Take the Milford — Blanchester exit from 275 and keep going up 28 until you hit 132, hang a left, you can’t miss it! It’s a small town atmosphere and the owners will even come over and sit down with you and ask how you like your meal! The best place to go in town for Bluegrass!

This place IS-​A-​TREAT! It’s a bit off the beaten path, but every bit WORTH IT! Trust me, come on out to the yonder and try this place! The owner, employees and even customers make you feel at home!
They are located in a small little town east of Cincy right outside Milford, for you City Slickers. Easy directions, with pretty much one turn off HWY 28. When you get close, you can’t miss it, really, you can’t. Nothing but fields or darkness depending on your time of travel. But no matter what you will have a great time.
My wife and I was there a night (Saturday) when they had some Blue Grass. And man, oh, man was it great. What I loved was the volume. Now, we aren’t old folks, but we like to talk through out the night, and we sure could here. It was just the right volume to not blow you out and be hoarse the next morning.
While they don’t have wine, they do have a ample beer selection, with a couple ciders.
The food is FANTASTIC, and they are known for their grilled cheese. I know, I know. You guys want the review of the gooey grilled cheese. Well, I had a Salad, I know, I know and the wife had a panini, which was GREAT! the Hummus was out of this world.
The only kicker for this place is, location. But I tell you what, if you lead a horse to water you can make him drink, right? or maybe it goes something like that! HA
On a serious note, get out to Plainville and try it, you might… well, you WILL like it!

This used to be a two-​room schoolhouse built in 1913 (The Pleasant Plain Public School). Very old and historical.
They serve fresh-​brewed gourmet coffee, have a nice craft beer selection, café menu, and live entertainment. When we went on a Saturday night, it was Bluegrass. Which is not too loud.
We were able to find seating at the booth.
You order your drinks and food at the counter. They keep a tab running/​open. The servers bring your food out to you. They call you by your name, so you must stay alert.
We started off with the hummus as an appetizer which comes with Tortilla chips, panini bread and veggies (zucchini, carrots and celery). Very delicious.
I got the Turkey BLT on Panini (very delicious, it was not soggy) and as my sides Kettle chips and pasta salad (slight tangy and seasoned just right). Loved my meal. My husband got Southwestern Chicken Salad– Mixed greens with grilled onions, peppers, black beans, and corn; and garnished with sour cream, spoonful of salsa, and served with tortilla chips. There are other items on menu that I want to try (menu selection is very simple and not overwhelming).
Love the décor– Vinyls and Vintage items (has a hippy vibe). I felt very welcomed. Great place to chill out and get comfortable.
Restaruant clean and staff very friendly.
Bathroom small yet clean.
I can’t wait until it gets warm. You can enjoy outdoor seating and I heard there is a playground behind the restaurant for kids.
Also known for displaying Volkswagen Bus in the front.
Great experience and looking forward to coming back.

I really do love this place, but the food needs some work. Their salads are piled high with tasteless shredded cheese from a bag and the mushrooms used in any of the sandwiches are definitely canned. It would be nice if some things were a bit more homemade than the «open and put together» process they seem to have going. I do believe their hummus is homemade but the last time I ordered this, it unfortunately was bland and lacked flavor. I have NOT had their breakfast so this review is of dinner only.
The outside deck addition is wonderful and the beer selection is nice with some craft/​micro brews included. It’s a shame I’ve never been for the music, I hear it’s wonderful.

The Plain Folk Café may seem like a bit of a hike for people who live in Cincinnati, but if you are on the east side or don’t mind putting a little time in then you will be rewarded with great food, warm company, and excellent music. The owners are music lovers who have great taste in live acoustic music, and they book great sounds in local bands and solo acts. I have been there several times and can’t leave without trying the soup of the day and a home baked brownie.

Music:
Went on a Saturday night and saw Love Banshee, and Bibs and Barefeet… both excellent. If you like bluegrass (or acoustic/​folk) get ye to Plain Folk.
I generally have the opinion that when most places say they are having live music… there’s a good chance that some (sometimes most) of the bands will be crappy cover bands, or simply crappy bands. Not the case here, and if they continue to have the quality of bands playing every weekend, it’s going to be great.great.great.
Parking:
This is an issue. The building is pretty small (a two room school building) and the parking lot probably has spots for 8? Cars in actual ‘spots’ and then about 5 cars parallel parked on the road right in front of the café. We did not get there early enough to get any of those spots so we parked in the parking lot of the Presbyterian church across the street. I didn’t ask anyone if that was OK but I don’t see the Presby church having services on Thurs/​Fri/​Sat nights… Sunday might be an issue though… unless the church has some deal with the Café. So… get there early not only to get a parking spot but also to get a seat. It was surprisingly crowded. I don’t know if people are driving from long distances to go here or if it’s a more local crowd… but it was more busy than I thought.
Food/​coffee/​beer:
Food is great as far as I can tell. I had the Cranberry Almond Salad with Chicken and it was big and tasty. Friend got the Quesadilla which she let me have a bite of and it was also pretty delicious. I *think the kitchen is small… and there may only be like 1 or 2 people working in it/​running food… but they go as fast as they can and you have good beer/​music to deal with while you wait. The sub sandwiches looked good as they were being carried by me… LOL.
2 taps: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Sam Adams Boston Lager — don’t know if these will be staples or change. The SN was out, which I assume is due to the high volume of business they got on opening weekend. Bottles: Great Lakes (Burning River and Dortmunder Gold), Magic Hat #9, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Mt Carmel Amber, Yuengling, and then Bud… etc. So some decent selections to get people who normally drink BMC to try something new and unintimidating.
A small little ‘gift shop’ corner with some jewelry/​soap/​knitted stuff… coozies/​Tshirts.
Great place to have a drink and see some good music with good friends. I’ll be going back for sure.

Plain Folk Café is not officially open yet, but I had the opportunity to go out during their practice run this weekend. I can’t say enough about the food. The food came out fast and hot and tasted amazing! This place is definitely a MUST for anyone looking for great food and great music! Grand Opending May 4^th weekend.
