Horrible place. I have multiple cuts from neck shave after the hair cut.

Got a simple haircut and beard trim, beard was not cut evenly, on top of that 50 bucks for a haircut! How does a half cut beard cost more then a haircut? Way too expensive. Sorry will never come back to this place.

I’ve been coming here for haircuts since moving to the area over 9 years ago. I can’t imagine going anywhere else.

My first visit after reading these excellent reviews. Dan’s Is a nice little hidden away shop with two chairs. The haircut was done with precision and Dan seemed highly skilled. Not exactly the cut I asked for but looks OK and one I can live with. Some use of thinning shears which is always a poor sign(problems arise as the hair grows out). But overall not so bad(a 4 star cut). The shoulder massage thing was strange(read uncomfortable) but I politely let him give me the full treatment. Who knows after a few visits I may grow to like it. I was surprised when Dan changed me $ 30 for this simple cut. I was expecting $ 22 as noted here in other reviews. Did I get the«special non-resident» rate? Now what?!?

Little on the pricey side, but great haircut. I even got a shoulder massage! The staff are not the great conversationalists, but I wanted a haircut, not a commentary on the locals and politics. The place has apparently been in Pleasanton for more than 30 years, Dan and his staff really know their business. When I am in the Pleasanton area I will definitely be back.

Been coming here for years. I’ve never had a poor experience here. Dan has a wonderful staff and always makes you feel apart of his team. He truly runs a Gentleman’s barber shop !

I have been to Barber Dan’s three times now. The previous two times, a lady did a fantastic job on my crew cut//faux hawk. This would have warranted a 4 – 5 star review, however the third trip completely negated that experience. I came in to get a fresh haircut for my friend’s wedding, which was the next day, and although I wasn’t able to get my haircut by the lady, a gentleman who I’ve seen cut hair really well was going to give me the cut. I specifically told him the style that I wanted was a faux hawk with a ½ fade that blends to the top(the keyword here is «faux hawk»). Since they don’t cut your hair facing the mirrors, I trusted this gentleman to cut my hair the way that I explained it to him, assuming that we were both on the same page. Unfortunately, when he finally turned the chair around so I can see how my cut looked like, it was horrid! My entire sides and back were completely shaved! and there wasn’t any blending at the top! I quickly grabbed the handheld mirror to see what my haircut looked like from all angles. It clearly was NOT a faux hawk, and what made the experience even worse was the gentleman demanded that I still need to pay for the haircut, despite not getting the cut that I wanted! The gentleman also tried to make me feel better, by saying«well, at least it’s not uneven»(ironically, when I went home to check, one side was higher than the other) or «Hey!, A hot chick might like it!» Suffice to say, that will be the last time I step into Barber Dan’s. I’m sure they are definitely very capable of cutting hair, as noted by the pictures and other reviewers, but this was just one downright bad experience.

I recently relocated to the Pleasanton area and was looking for a quality barber. Dan’s barber shop might be the finest barber shop that I have personally been to in my life. I have been to barber shops from San Luis Obispo to Sonoma County and Dan’s barber shop is definitely the best. I will definitely be back, and will recommend Dan’s barber shop to my friends and family.

Nice, clean cut. The service is good. Warm soap is used while shaving. No small fragments of hair left to be cleaned as in the some cheaper places, which is good. And yes, they give you a shoulder massage. However, I still plan to try someone else. Since I have curly hair, I would like to keep it that way. I said«keep it long» to the barber. While lots of hair got cut to make it look clean. That’s not exactly what I hoped for. The price is is in the $$ range as expected.

I came in to get a gift certificate for my husband for a straight shave. I can’t speak to the shave, because I ended up walking out. The guy was incredibly rude. I asked if they did gift certificates and he just said«yup» and nothing else… barely looked up. I understand that he was in the middle of a haircut, but anyone with any sense of customer service would have said something like, «I’ll be with you in just a minute,» or anything along those lines. So I stood therefor about a minute and then he looked up at me with a dirty look on his face, shrugged his shoulders and said, «Have a seat. Don’t just stand there,» in a very condescending tone. So I left. Definitely didn’t seem like a place I would want to buy a gift for my husband at. You would think that being in the service field, he would have been a little friendlier. I’m not looking for warm and fuzzy, and I get that it’s a barber shop, but come on.

I just stop by and barely never wait. They’re all super friendly in a real barber shop ambiente where I’m always happy with the cut I get and the neck massage in the end is awesome — my place for as long as I can stay in the area !!!

It’s so hard to find a good barbershop around here but this is the best place I have found. Dan and the woman(Rema?) cut good and consistent. They do the straight razor on the edges and back of the neck and finish it up with a massage. Great place.

You really can’t put a price on quality haircuts. I’ve let my hair grow out in order to change my hairstyle and today Dan’s Barbershop delivered! I’m pleased with my trim and was pleasantly surprised to get some feedback about my new cut. To complicate matters, I’m growing a beard and I was nervous, but it was expertly blended into the new cut. This barbershop still effectively utilizes straight razors to clean you up after your initial cut where other places don’t. To finish off my visit I had a hot towel placed over my head and then massaged! What an experience, thank you Dan’s Barbershop.

May have spoken too soon… While my previous review is still true of «Dan», can’t say I’ve have the experience with others in the shop. The other«barbers» have given only satisfactory cuts. I have found a new place, but will keep Dan in mind when in a pinch.

Have been having my hair cut there for about 3 years — Dan has always been great, meticulous and friendly. I have always had a great hair cut and I really like the barber style chairs and atmosphere. Smells like a man cave in there! Warm shaving foam and a little neck massage at the end is always a nice touch. A nice throw back to the olden days of hair cuts.

I got a shave here right before my wedding and it was the best way to get ready for my big day. A shave at Barber Dan’s will absolutely make you feel like a gentleman. As soon as my buddies and I got there, Dan offered us scotch. Good start. Then came the hot towel treatment and assortment of pre-shave ointments(like nice cologne but subtle and not overpowering) and shaving cream. I guarantee this was the closest shave of my life. I went to the venue all cleaned up, smooth, and completely relaxed. Wifey loved it too. Thanks Dan.

I’ve been hard pressed to find a decent barber in the Pleasanton area since I moved from Berkeley. Whenever I come in Angie usually cuts my hair, but I’m starting think I should give Dan a shot. Angie is a good barber and usually remembers what I like getting. She fixes me up pretty well, but I just have to dock a star just because environment wise it’s not what I expect from«A Gentleman’s Barber Shop.» She’s a great lady but usually all she’s got to talk about is celebrity gossip or Basketball Wives or whatever garbage is on TV right now. Just can’t get into it. At any rate, Angie gives me a pretty proper cut. They finish off your sideburns and the back of your neck with a straight razor and finish off your haircut with a quick little shoulder rub with a little handheld massager. All this runs $ 22 excluding any tip(cash only). I’ve yet to get a straight razor shave from Barber Dan’s but I’ll be sure to fill you guys in on any updates.
