Rude! Hmm, Talbot’s has an interesting business model. Apparently only the superbly stupid and bitchy survive to become store managers. Carol of the Pleasanton store surpassed both of those corporate directives and I suppose she should be commended for her ability to drive away customers. My wife received a nice purse as a gift for her 30th birthday but it didn’t really suit her style so she wanted to exchange it for some clothing. The gift came from someone who happens to work at another Talbot’s store, so here’s where the«advanced» math and«critical thinking» skills come in. I’ll use small words and nice even round fictional numbers while illustrating my point so Carol can understand this if she happens to read later. The friend purchased the $ 120 purse with an employee discount so it only cost $ 60. Carol being the rocket surgeon that she is told my wife that she could only exchange the purse for $ 60 dollars worth of merchandise. Let’s think about this for a moment. If she refunded the money that the original buyer paid then she would give back $ 60 cash. Then that money could be used by the same original buyer to purchase $ 120 worth of clothing with the discount. So if you take out the extra unnecessary steps, the $ 120 purse is worth $ 120 clothing — if returned for cash it’s worth $ 60 but has equal value when exchanged for merchandise. This is where Carol really showed why she’s a manager. My wife recognized that Carol’s logic was flawed and questioned her actions. Carol, not accustomed to defending her bad and incorrect decisions, felt the need to enter a dark place of spite and poor morality. She proceeded to call the store where the friend works and speak with the friend and the other store’s manager. There was absolutely no reason to let the friend know the gift was being exchanged. My wife was horrified and embarrassed by the action that could also have caused undue drama at work for the friend. My wife asked why on Earth she would do something so bitchy and then was told to leave the store. No exchange took place. We found out afterward that Carol is not even the Store Manager as she represented herself. She is the Assistant Manager. Also according to the friend that purchased the gift, another store manager confirmed that Carol was incorrect in her application of the exchange policy, as suspected. So I recommend shopping at Talbot’s if you want to be lied to, insulted, embarrassed, accused, and generally pissed off.

Writing this review for the wife. :) Usually, I hate shopping with the wife and tell her ‘You go that way, I’ll go this way’. But, we were walking towards Macy’s on Black Friday and decided to stop in.(She’s petite and has a real hard time finding any clothes that fit her). Since it was Black Friday, I was expecting torrents of rude people and crowds up to my eye-balls. But, since we went after about 1:00, we must have missed the huge rush. All of the display racks were nice and neat. Signs were properly set up so you knew what was on sale etc. We had a few salespeople helping us on and off. Just what we like. We were in there for about an hour and a half and walked out with about 10 items. And they all fit her and she let out a little Unilocal! when we got out of there she was so happy! She’s NEVER bought this much clothes at one time in our 24 years of marriage. Never! It was a great thing too because we saved a ton of money too. Also, signed up for their membership thing and saved some more money to boot! Thanks to the nice helpful people at Talbots!

My mother and I walked into Talbots expecting great customer service that we always get at Talbots but at this location they killed it. The service here is HORRIBLE ! We went in to get something simple done and walked out mad wanting to return everything we had bought at Talbots. We don’t normally go to this Talbots but we were in the area. so we went over to the Brentwood location and they got everything done for us with NOHASSLE. We will never be going back to this location!

I found a couple of cute tops here recently… and have to add a few stars! One has to weed through the career wear for the middle aged woman… but peasant and baby-doll tops are available. Also, a great place to get that all important cotton sweater cover-up! Another stop along the road to summer«09!
