I’ve been coming to benchmark for a few years. First of all this office cares. They are a small mom and pop place and they have a small town customer service appeal. I read the comment below and it made me scratch my head. I’ve only known Dr. Carney for a few years… but I can honestly say he isn’t a bully. He has a great sense of humor and I guess sometimes people don’t get it. Why we have to bully over the internet by saying mean things just doesn’t make sense to me. I have had great experiences here. Dr. Carney and the front staff are super nice. In fact they even stayed late one night for my child who scratched her eye… with that said I give 5 stars to this place.

Dr. Carney has been my eye doctor on and off for years(I’ve moved out of state several times) and I’ve only had positive experiences at his office. His exams are extremely thorough and the staff are always pleasant and helpful. They offer a great selection of eye wear. While in Michigan visiting this summer, I grabbed a new pair of glasses and love them.

I’ve been to this place twice, with different results. The first time was great. I found a pair of frames that I loved and had an overall pleasant experience. The second time was so terrible that I haven’t been back in three years, yet despite multiple phone calls, they won’t remove me from their«reminders» direct mailing list. A quick rundown of the bad experience below: — Getting an appointment is tough. At the time of my second visit, these people were pretty much operating on banker’s hours. — I know what I wanted(shape and style) going in, but the front of house ladies gave me a hard time for getting something too much like my old glasses. — Dr. Carney is a bully. He got short and aggressive with me when I turned down his up-sells(special coating, thinner lenses, etc). He got terse when I told him I wasn’t going to allow him to dilate my pupils, because I hadn’t arranged a ride and didn’t feel safe driving in that condition. He basically told me to buck up, then tried to do it anyway. I almost walked out of the exam multiple times. — When my glasses came in, the woman couldn’t get my frames quite right, and blamed it on my «crooked ears.» I’ve been wearing glasses since I was five years old and have never had this issue. Even if my ears were crooked(and I’m pretty sure they are not), it has never been an issue for any other eye care professional(or her on my first pair there), and it is certainly not something you say to a customer. Between my insurance and my pocket, when I get new glasses the company is getting several hundred dollars for it. This should be as close to a Disney-eque customer service experience that a medical visit can be. Unfortunately, Benchmark makes me feel much more like an ugly step sister than a princess.

Been getting my glasses here for years. They aren’t closed. I called to make an appointment earlier today.
