I knew the haddock wasn’t fresh when I got a mile away from the store and it started to stink up my car. I should have turned around, but I didn’t. I had also bought clams, which I figured that we would have that night, and complain about the fish on the next visit. I made clams in white sauce over linguini, and about 2 am my son got violently ill, throwing up all night. I was fine, so I figured he must have gotten a bad one. I had picked out about 15% of the clams that did not open during cooking. I called the next morning and spoke to the daughter of the owner, who after indignantly insisting that the fish was fresh, and that there was nothing wrong with the clams, reluctantly agreed to mail me a check for the amount I had paid.(I explained that I lived 25 miles away, stopped there in passing) There was no apology. About a week later, I received a gift certificate in the mail. Not a check as promised. I returned the gift certificate with a note requesting a check as promised, but this was ignored. No response, even after leaving a message with an employee about two weeks after sending the note. I would not return to this market under any circumstances. Both items I purchased were bad, and the customer service was terrible.

Maybe we caught them on a bad day(Saturday). We did call ahead to confirm that they had little-neck clams available. They did. We drove there in under 10 minutes and it is a picturesque spot. When we opened the door the smell almost knocked me over. I grew up in New England and have shopped in many fish stores, including this one. When I stepped onto the flooring my shoe slipped from the coating on the floor. My husband went in but I backed up and stood in the door where I could catch a breath of fresh air. The young woman behind the counter snapped at me for leaving the door open. She was worried about flies. I was thinking that flies were the least of her problems as the chum was really old and the smell was gross. But I closed the door thinking that God gave us senses to use to help us make decisions that can protect us. Maybe the locals are so use to the smell they don’t realize that most fish markets don’t smell that bad! They all have that fish smell, but the smell shouldn’t overcome your senses to the point you want to vomit when you are in a fish market. My husband followed me out the door within a few minutes. He just didn’t feel comfortable buying our clams there. We drove less than 10 miles and we were able to purchase our clams some place where the odor of fish was well within reasonable. We also purchased some Lysol spray on the way home to disinfect the bottom of our shoes. We were quite worried about bacteria and hated to put our feet in the car after stepping on the floor at the Manomet Lobster Pound. Maybe we are old fashioned, but cleanliness matters. No excuses, it matters!

RUDE. Must be a local place only. Went over July 4th weekend… and realized I never wrote a review about this place… As a visiting tourist, my welcome was nonexistent. Despite my desire to take my business elsewhere, another family member was determined to buy lobsters here. So, after walking out on day 1, we returned on day 2 to pre-order our lobsters. After pre-ordering(yes, you should PRE order and do NOT expect it to be cooked otherwise, everything is raw and options are limited), we picked up our lobsters and to be honest… they didn’t taste good at all. The smell alone was awful. Being from New England, lobsters are not a novel thing to me, so while my sister from North Carolina was happy, I did not have the heart to tell her, we could have found better somewhere else. Will NOT be back nor recommend this place. A smile would have gone a long ways here, especially when you do business with vacationing tourists.

Such a pleasure to do business with. I called looking for steamers and was actually greeted with a very pleasant, happy woman. So nice for a change. She wasn’t sure if they actually had any to spare but took my number and said she’d call back within fifteen minutes. She actually did! And they had them. Delicious! Plus it’s a beautiful ride out there, and the lot of land it’s on is stunning!

Fresh fresh fresh seafood… the sweetest lobsters… cook at home or have them do it. Either way it is fabulous… and the view isn’t bad either!

My girlfriend’s parents live in Manomet, and it was a delight to walk up from a day at the beach to the Lobster Pound, grab some scallops and swordfish, and then walk a few more minutes to their condo. The place is small but they have a good selection, and it seemed very fresh. The people inside were personable, but moreover the food was excellent. We grilled the swordfish and I seared the scallops(just seasoned with kosher salt and pepper) in some butter on a screaming hot cast iron pan. It was simple and delicious. Can’t wait to close out some more summer nights with some fresh seafood from this place!

My wife and I «discovered» this place by accident on our vacation to New England. We were just driving around when we saw this place and decided to take a look. May I say this was the most pleasant surprise of our visit to the Cape Cod area. We didn’t buy any seafood but we did buy some crab cakes and the clam chowder. I can tell you honestly the BEST clam chowder I have EVER had. The travel gods were looking after us that day. So good that we plan on repeating this adventure this year.

Awesome little market on the tip of Manomet Point which has been family owned for years. The owner has an incredible amount of integrity which is evident by the no frills shop. It’s straight up seafood in a very small space and very true to the Plymouth spirit. Before you buy something, ask. The service here is fantastic! They know their seafood very well and if you aren’t sure where something came from, they do! The highlight of this spot isn’t in the glass freezer though, it’s in the crock pot behind them or in the fridge on your right when you walk in: clam chowdah! That’s right, want to know where the best chowdah in Plymouth is? Right here if you can believe it! I grew up here so I know what I’m talking about ;) The Lobster Pound features fresh chowdah on the crock and/or in the fridge daily from Chelsea, MA. I can’t recall the name of the restaurant who makes it but I’ve NEVER had better. If you like creamy, viscose chowdah with plenty of potatoes and clams you’ll be very happy. If you like the thinner style chowder(that ain’t chowdah!) then don’t try it, this is real chowdah, not that chowder legal seafood soup consistency bs.

Great selection. Always fresh. I always ask where the fish were caught and one day the young lady said New Bedford(like I would know the difference). In a flash another lady came out of the back room and corrected her. I was impressed that this mattered to the second lady. She even scolded the first one a bit. Anyway, this place is great.

You drive out to Manomet Point(which is breathtaking) to find this little shack in the middle of the road, so quaint. The cool lady shows off the 7 pound lobster in the tank, you can touch it, hold it, take your pic with it. She’s fun, funny(the lady) and the other helpers package up your fresh lobsters and off you go. Best place to buy your lobsters for your at-home lobster races.
