Who would have thought you would find 5 star sushi in Pocatello Idaho. Well… I did today! What a fun and cool place from the brick walls and the large dinning area to the great service. Great sushi bar to watch sports on as well. By recommendation I had the Seafood Bisque which truly was the best I have ever had. It was so rich and full of flavor. I also tried the Crab Rangoon which was very tasty. I finished my lunch with the Ghost sushi roll which was a nice change up on spicy Tuna which also included Albacore and a nice hint of ghost pepper for just the right heat. I will be going there again on my next trip to Pocatello.

It was ok. Not what I was expecting based on the other reviews. I had the poem katsu and it was so thin and chewy and mostly just bread

The place was pretty basic,(with a little different smell) but the reviews were good. Ambiance is not really important, it all about the food! And as I’ve said before, Sushi is usually either good or bad, not much in between. I decided to try the Tiny Dancer Roll(Good — No Krab — not a fan of Krab or Salmon in my sushi, but instead more Spicy Tuna) and the China Doll Roll(Great!). The wait was about 25 minutes, longer than expected, but worth the wait!

Ordered takeout and was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes. Went down to pickup our food and waited another 30 minutes. Haven’t even tried the food yet and wouldn’t ever come back to this place.

Loved it! We were told that this place was really good and I was wary because, Idaho. Haha. Well I was very surprised! It’s better than sushi places I’ve been to in Utah. They actually season and flavor their rice! Like what? Haha. Everything tastes awesome. We got tempura veggies to start which were yummy. I don’t like raw fish so I was very pleasantly surprised to find a section that was specifically«nothing raw» sushi rolls. I ordered the teriyaki salmon roll and it was amazing! Love the sweet sauce that was on it. The California rolls were also really good, good flavor on them! Other people at my table ordered the tiny dancer, Godzilla, and the spicy tuna roll and they liked all of it!

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. My wife, mother-in-law and I came for dinner. Service was efficient and friendly. I ordered the vegetable tempura, tiny dancer and spicy tuna maki roll. My mother-in-law ordered the Godzilla and California roll. My wife ordered the teriyaki salmon. Tempura was ok. Dipping sauce was just regular soy sauce. However, all of our rolls were delicious. No single flavor was overwhelming. It was an enjoyable experience.

This restaurant has been around for a while and yesterday was my first time trying it. I really loved everything about my meal. We had the soy beans as an appetizer and they were seasoned just right. We also got some hot tea which was really good too. I had the Godzilla specialty role which was very good. My brother had the Tiny Dancer and I would recommend that as well. There was about fifteen pieces and each piece was a little smaller than the size of my palm. Very full and very satisfied. Although it is a little more expensive than what I am used to paying but the overall experience and the taste was worth it. This place is worth a try!

The service has been very slow both times I have been. The food is okay at best. My first experience I had to send my chicken back, I don’t know if it was just poor quality chicken or if it really was not cooked all the way, but I was not risking it. Second time I was going to order a vegetarian dish to avoid eating any meat product and since they do not offer one I went with steak. It was not very good and I kept finding bristles, like from a brush, in my steak. I will not be making a third trip. Although, the ginger salad dressing was good, so there’s that.

Food quality was below par. Seafood bisque was, to paraphrase as previously mentioned, «to die from.» with fake crab in a canned tasting cream sauce. Deep fried pork was greasy and uninspired. We will not be back. We need better restaurants in Pocatello!

Food is 5 star sushi(remembering that you are in Pocatello Idaho). You have to be patient as getting your food can take ages, even if you are dining solo, but well worth the wait. Plus, you can always order to go.

I love Sumisu — I am from out of town and CRAVE their veggie and tiny dancer rolls. I make it a point to stop in whenever I am passing through. Their wait staff is friendly and professional. Always a great experience and great food !

I love this place! Whenever I am here the service is quick and the food is great. The Tiny Dancer is definitely my favorite roll, I love the steak bento box, and the bisque is amazing. I would go here if you like sushi, if you want to see some of old town Pocatello, and if you have taste buds that love delicious food.

We ordered take out so I can’t say anything about the restaurant besides I expected it to be nicer because of the website. But that’s not why the 2 stars. The sushi rolls I got were good too. Maybe worth 3 stars. The employee on the phone was super nice so a good 4 stars and they didn’t charge me for eel sauce so still doing good. So Okay food, good service, eh building. And a hair in my container. Instant star dropper. I’m pretty grossed out. Super glad it wasn’t in my roll. Sadly not going to finish the rest. So not worth the nearly $ 30 we spent. Sad disappointment. But if that doesn’t gross you out and you’re stuck in pokey with a craving for sushi this is about as good as you’re going to get.(Unless you can recommend another place to me? Please?)

This place has a decent Bento Box. Very over priced for the amount of food you get. It is more of a special occasion place to meet or for the person who doesn’t care about price. I left really hungry after spending $ 15 on lunch. The atmosphere is one of the better ones for Pocatello but that’s not saying much. If you’re not that hungry then I say go for it. You’ll enjoy yourself. Or eat before you go. Sushi decent but not stellar… hence the 3 stars.

Service was extremely slow and the waiter avoided us until the food came out. It took over 30 minutes to get our rolls(2 specialty and 2 maki rolls). There were 4 sushi chefs and 4 tables filled. I watched them pack 2 to-go orders before they even got to the sit-down orders! Head sushi chef also yelled for our waiter down the hall to tell her to turn off the TV volume because it was«annoying.» We ordered the ghost roll, emperor roll, and spicy tuna/salmon. The ghost roll tasted the best and was spicy! The emperor roll was dry as the filling with just cucumber with avocado and was missing sprouts. Not a great first experience, don’t know if I would come back. The food was not that great and definitely not better than SoCal.

Slow and bad service. We had to ask for everything. The sushi is equal to grocery store or gas station level sushi. When I tried to send my roll back the waitress informed me since I ate a piece I would be charged. I left never finished and went to the sandpiper for a dinner snack. I’m from another town, don’t trust the Unilocal reviews.

I was nervous. The idea of raw fish in Idaho sounded very iffy to me. I went with the intention of having an iced tea while my friends ate. I ended up eating some of theirs, and then ordering my own. YUM! Highly Recommend!

I lived in a lot of places and had lots of sushi. Sumisu’s sushi is good most of the time(occasionally the fish can be of varied quality, though it’s generally good). I find their simple, regular rolls best and actually a good deal given their quality. Their fancy creations are good, but a bit on the pricy side. Their tempura is actually quite good. The other dishes can leave something to be desired, and their edamame is cooked in butter??? Perhaps some people like this style of edamame, not me. Overall, if you stick to the rolls you will not be disappointing. I’m glad Sumisu exists in Pocatello!

Always excellent sushi! I eat here every time I am in town. I was, though, disappointed in two things: First was the Miso soup. The mushrooms seemed dehydrated and certainly had no good texture or taste. I didnt finish it. We also used to enjoy the chicken lettuce wraps. But this time we sent the chicken back, it tasted awful. A second batch was no better. They have changed the seasonings or something. But do go! Great staff, wonderful sushi.
