The Train Room

After being excited to support a local small business I was blown away by there horrible policies!
I was shopping for an n scale train set for my son. I googled local train shops and came across the Train Room in points pleasant nj. After arriving there I was hoping to be able to purchase something for my son here, and I did. The person helping me was nice and they did have a starter set my son liked. We purchased and went on our way. That’s where the happy experience ends.
You see after telling my brother what we bought for my son he explained that he got him a train set also. Being that his was purchased online I figured what is the hassle with returning something that was just bought?! Well was I wrong. I call up and another person that I didn’t deal with answered and said” returns only for store credit” I explained to him that we just bought the item 2 hours ago and it was never opened. He said that this was store policy, it was on the receipt, and that it is displayed in the store. I told him at no time did we see any sign it stating the store policy, and it being on the receipt does not help after-​the-​fact because it is already purchased. Refusing to bend, I expressed my severe disappointment and hung up.
That night we put our train set together, and my brother sent is back with a restock fee and shipping costing him an additional $ 41. After putting our transit together we found it was defective. So I had to bring it back anyway.
Upon bring it back I still could not find the return policy. After looking around I found a paper mostly hidden under a flier holder. I took a picture for proof. I asked the person working there if this was the return policy. He said yes. I showed him how obstructed it was and he said yes you are right. Took my exchange for the broken train and left.
I emailed the company directly in hoping to get the owner who is a harbor pilot and this is his side business. But only to get responded by the same persons telling me that he has no power to make changes.
I hope others don’t have the same experiences I’ve had. Research the return policies. Don’t let horrible business practices and policies keep you from giving deserving businesses your hard earned cash.
Btw the new train works fine. They said my defective one worked for them, I sent them video proof of the opposite.
