Damn shame it’s closed. For us bike enthusiasts I’m sorry to see it closed. It was a fun destination to stop for a beer after a long ride. It served as meeting point for alot of us. Hopefully someone can jump on the opportunity to reopen it.

we go in once a year couple days before Christmas Brother in laws and I it still feels like a biker bar, no bikers, food is perfect when your drinking beers and shots! It’s cheap also

Many years ago when we were especially young and especially foolish Apple Jack’s was the place to go when one was feeling particularly mischievious. It was known as a down-‘n-dirty bikers’ bar where certain unsavory activities likely would take place. The lack of hygiene was apparent then so that those of us who were not regulars wouldn’t dare to order food until after our third(or fourth) bottle of beer! Recent news suggest that the establishment has new ownership. So, on a dare two of us decided to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised. Upon entering our first impression was that the ambiance(?) hasn’t changed much, still dimly lighted but now it appears quite clean. The furnishings remain very basic yet serviceable and, for us, maintain the«character» of the place. On a Tuesday afternoon there were few clientele. We spent several minutes scoping the place out and enjoying a delightful banter with the barkeep/server. During our visit she was very friendly and helpful. When we couldn’t make up our minds about which beer to order she offered us several to taste. She went over the blackboard menu with us and made appropriate suggestions. Not being especially hungary we ordered their standard quarter pound burgers. They were particuarly good with… drum roll… bib lettuce and heirloom tomatoes! Surely not the Apple Jacks we remember! Delicious home made potato chips accompanied our meal, no need for fries. The menu included several more innovative choices that looked enticing. In keeping with tradition, we were entertained by a local character at the bar. While we wouldn’t recommend Apple Jack’s for your parents fiftieth anniversary party, we certainly will return. Give it a shot!(get-it?)

My boyfriend and I moved to the area rather recently, and discovered this little gem. There aren’t many places that could be described as ‘nearby’ to where we live now, but I’m thrilled that AJ’s is one of those places! I love the barrel that you have to walk through to get in, it’s adorable. The bar itself is dimly lit, but there’s plenty of room and lots of friendly staff and regulars. There’s an outdoor area where there are some picnic tables, a little bit of seating and a fire pit. Occasionally they even host musical events out back, usually during the summer. The food is delicious as far as bar food goes. The wings are pretty big, too– we get them nearly every time we stop in! All in all, if you’re in the area make sure you stop by. You can’t beat the ambiance, and the prices are reasonable enough to become a regular guest.

during an adventure of trying new places along the river, we stopped in here for a beer. it was early so the place was pretty empty, but i immediately felt comfortable. dark wood everywhere, billiards, air hockey, big buck hunter. beer specials are pretty great. very affordable. another couple at the bar was eating chili, and they were raving about it.(it smelled really good but we were full of mediocre faux french food from a snooty joint up the river.) if only it was a little closer to my house. i’d probably go a lot more often. worth checking out.
