I have 3 children that I signed up for sports for the first time this year. My boys are older and seemed to enjoy soccer. I can not say enough good things about the coaches. My boys are on the same team. Their coach is a great teacher and seems to have a deep understanding of sportsmanship and how to work with children. My daughter has a wonderful coach too. She leads by example and has a way with children that can not be taught. It is a gift. There are many exceptional volunteers at SMYO. Speaking of volunteers, the entire organization is ran by them. We have had a good experience up until today. On October 18, 2014, I was bringing my daughter to her game that was scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. We like to get there about 9:15 a.m. The coach request that so the kids can warm up and get ready to lay their game. As we were walking past the concession stand a volunteer just melted down on some kid. He dropped a giant«F-bomb» loud enough we all could hear it. his tantrum startled my daughter. AS we were walking he continued to yell at this kid and drop«F-bombs». I went back and told him to dial it back there are kids around him. I mentioned this to my daughter’s coach who seemed very surprised. She said she would look into it. When our game was getting ready to start I noticed that a board member was the coach of the team we were going to be playing. I approached her and told her about what happened. She said I was blowing it out of proportion(I paraphrased since I forget her exact words). When I insisted I was not she told me he was a board member and she would say something to him.(a.k.a leave me alone.) My daughter was so upset after this experience that she walked off the field and would not play her game. I left the treats for the kids after the game with the coach and told her My daughter would not play today. In conclusion, I think the facility is nice and pretty well maintained. The coaches my children have had are excellent. I wold however recommend that if you are going to have your children there that you be sure to pay close attention to what they are exposed to while they are walking around the SMYO property.
