Pomona Public Library

Lots of internet pc’s here no wait list. A city library you need to be a resident to access it. This is a rather large library with a large children’s area/​section, with child friendly internet as well. Printing will cost here and you need to load a printer card up with funds. They have slightly unusual hours so you may want to call in advance and check the hours (909) 620‑2043.

I love this library. I grew up falling in love with reading here. My mom and I used to walk with my wagon and I would pile books into it so I can take them all home. :)
It’s sad how many homeless are here in the surrounding area. It gets awkward. Can’t even go inside without being asked for spare change. It’s actually the main reason why I don’t visit as often anymore…

Had a couple of hours to kill between appointments in Pomona so I figured why not go to the library. Well because the main library is closed on Friday and Saturday. I get budget cuts but you would be hard pressed to find two days when the library is more likely to be in use. Sad.

The only thing I hate is their hours. Other than that it’s awesome!

The Pomona Public Library is a safe haven and a repository for knowledge. Over the years, I grew to recognize the faces who served the library. I spent countless hours sitting in the stacks reading about my culture, world cultures, geography, biographies, art, and poetry. I was thrilled to check out books by the bundles. The library was where I found inspiration to be a journalist through Journalist Nellie Bly and have an interest in politics because of reading the biography of the Second First Lady of the United States Abigail Adams. Meanwhile, they even had books in language for my mom to check out. The Friends of the Library hosted a book scholarship contest then which I earned and it helped me pay for books in college. Studying subject matter that mattered broadened my horizons before I went to university and still does to this day. It’s where I go to check out reference books for my art students and where I continue my publicly funded continuing education without the ridiculous tuition hike.

This library is the hub of the community and has been for well over 100 years. I have used this library for almost all my life and it has provided many hours of reading pleasure, resource utilization for my schooling, and many hours of relaxation and quiet. Now it is threatened. Hard to believe that a gem such as this is in jeopardy. I invite everyone to come enjoy YOUR library as I (and many others) have done for many years!

Not very many good libraries left in this state and it’s such a shame…
I like that there is a good selection of children’s books here.

#355 I love getting lost in its aisles. I love the historic feel of the entire place. The children’s section is admirable. The librarians all know what they’re talking about. Volunteering here is fulfilling. I miss it.

This library is quite large, full of all sorts of books, references and knowledge. It is at least two– to three times the size of libraries like Claremont or La Verne.
Unfortunately it’s in Pomona. As a lifelong citizen of Pomona, trust me when I say this: Pomona is poor.
As the city, and therefore library, inches closer towards insolvency, hours, service and quality are being sacrificed.
The biggest issue: this library is not part of the LA County database. While most libraries in L.A. County serve as a liaison for all of the Inland Empire, Pomona does not. So while I can look up a book through a dozen or so other libraries, request a hold at any of them, and have that book shipped to the location nearest me, all while checking out County-​wide with the same card, Pomona is essentially private.
This is not the end of the world, merely inconvenient. Pomona has a significant number of books that the collection of libraries who have co-​opted in the County do not have. Heavy-​hitters like Aldous Huxley and Bertrand Russell, too.
A star is knocked off for lack of convenience — other libraries in wealthier counties have, despite being much smaller, many more walk-​in hours — but it’s still a great library.

I love this library.

This is probably the only place in Pomona that will always have a piece of my heart when i move into the land of far, far away. haha. I pretty much grew up in this library. My dad started taking me to this library when i was 5 and i always felt so warm inside when i would come. I would check out the max total of books, which was five back then, and be done with them in one day! I probably made at least 3 trips during the week.
They definitely earned 5 golden stars in my book when in my last year of college, let me check out 15 books for a paper i needed to write. By the stunned looks on their faces, they’d probably never seen that done before haha.
To this day, something comes over me when i walk into this place. Having realized the costs of books throughout college [[$ 600 a semester!]], it always feels good to be surrounded by free knowledge. The place smells of old books and i just get wrapped into feeling like that little girl again who just knew the world was in her hands…
If you ever get a chance to go, grab a book and go sit in Lincoln’s log cabin. Now its in the children’s section so if you get any stares, just simply tell them, «dont judge me!!» :)
