Summer Of Steak – Whole Foods – Pompano Beach

Well my Wednesday night was filled with friends, steak and wine… I WIN!
On this occasion, Blue put together a phenomenal repertoire of meats, wine and education. The amazing hosts at Whole Foods in Pompano reserved an area just for Unilocalers, where they prepared a carnivore feast. The first stop was a yummy Champagne that was greeting everyone. We then, were given lovely educational tips on how to pick your steak, and most importantly, how to cook it to perfection.
After the demonstration was over, the food stations were ready to rumble and open for us to try. I first went for the Pna Seasred Flat-​Iron chimichurri which was paired with the Brooklyn Sorachi Ace Saison. One station down, and 5 more to go! I then approached the Mashed potato and Kale Salad station, and those two were delish! I am not a kale super lover because I think is too bitter, but on this occasion it was perfectly seasoned. I then moved to my third station, and I will confess that all I heard was «Peach» so I ran to it like a little kid runs after the ice cream truck. By this time I had no idea what type of meat I was about to put in my mouth, and when I did, I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Then, I found out that heavenly piece of meat was bison grilled with a peach teriyaki sauce and I could not believe it. This has to be hands down the best meat I have ever eaten in my life!
I then proceeded to the Reverse Seared Ribeye which was pair with Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout, and it was completely badass! I stopped for a bit, to then make my way to the Herb Crusted Beef Tenderloin with Gorgonzola and Mushrooms, there was something about this one that did not let me fall in love with it, but it was nonetheless delicious. By the end of the night, I had one more dish to try, and I was a bit skeptical, but after many people telling to give it a try, I did. This station had the Grass-​Fed Beef Tartare, and it was probably my second favorite of the night! I was very skeptical about this one, but the flavors were fantastic and succulent, and those homemade potato chips brought the dish to another level.
As if all of those tastings were not enough, the phenomenal Whole Foods staff brought out a gigantic cheese and grape platter along with donuts and several gelato fino desserts, all which gave the night a perfect ending!

Awesome event! From start to finish I had so much fun that I wish I could relive it again and again!
The evening started off with a glass of delicious champagne and bread with olive oil. I’m a huge champagne fan! I believe every fun night should begin with champagne ;). We then moved into Whole Foods Pompano Beach’s community room for a presentation from their head meat guy (sorry I forgot his official title :/​). He was super friendly and very informative. He also cooked the reverse seared ribeye to perfection.
We were then guided to mosey around the room to try all of the delectable dishes. Featured that night were the reverse seared ribeye, herb crusted beef tenderloin, flat iron chimichurri, sirloin tartare, and a peach teriyaki bison steak. We also got to try vegan ceasar salad and vegan mashed potatoes. Neither had dairy products in them, and both were super tasty! My favorite meat of the night was the reverse seared ribeye. I think I went back 3 or 4 times for more! Too good! The other meats were all great too– well except for the tartare. I just can’t get over raw beef. I tried a teeny piece of it and just couldn’t continue. I couldn’t get over the texture. Oh well.
Each meat station also had an accompanying wine or beer. I was a big fan of all of the wines, especially the chardonnay. I wasn’t a fan of the beers I tried. They were too strong for me.
The night ended with some amazing desserts. I absolutely died when I tried to homemade donuts. Super good! The dessert shots were also amazing. I especially loved the Key Lime Pie shot.
Overall the night was filled with great food and awesome company! Loved chatting it up with my fellow Unilocalers :). Thank you so so so much Whole Foods Pompano Beach for treating us to a wonderful evening. Big thanks to Blue for organizing this for all of us. Such a great time!

This was my very first visit to the Pompano Beach Whole Foods and I was so impressed! I knew WF was a great market that cared about the food they sold but they also care about educating people about the food they eat and have a staff that also supports this message. I have never met such a highly food educated staff that also love sharing their knowledge. I had no idea they had cooking classes at WF! I will have to make plans to attend a class in the near future!
They had 6 very unique stations set up for the summer of steak promotion. They showed several different ways to prepare steak and also more than one type of cut or meat for that matter. WF even had a chef there giving us a demonstration on how to properly cook a good steak. I had to narrow down my favorites to two and they were easily the Bison Strip Steak marinated in Peach Teriyaki and the Beef Tartar. First I didn’t even realize it was bison until someone pointed it out to me because I was way too busy drooling over it and trying to get more samples it was absolutely delicious and juicy! Although I wish we had a little grilled peach to go along with it.
Beef tartar is a new thing for me and it was just as good as the one I tried at Steak 954. You could really taste all the flavors added like the onion, capers and dijon that was added to the plate really rounded out the flavors. Plus the young woman working the station had such a great personality and was very knowledgeable about what she was making and made sure to answer all of our questions with a smile. I would say every one of the staff that I met that night really cared about the food they were preparing.
Dessert is ALWAYS a favorite of mine and I was so excited to see the fresh fried donuts made right there in whole foods and the gelato cake cups were amazing especially the peanut butter one. I will not admit how many donuts I ate that night but I have no regrets! HAHA!

Right now I am probably 3 reviews behind, but I felt like I need to get this review out right away first… LOL! The Unilocal!Summer of Steak is going on strong all month long, and I was one of the lucky few who took part of the Whole Foods MEAT tasting event.
Once again, I had the pleasure of Savanna M.‘s company on the ride to this event. 20 minute drive went quickly as we imagining how the event is going to be. I did get a peek at the menu for the evening Blue posted earlier that day, and I just can’t wait to get to taste all of them.
The evening started with a glass of sparkling wine after we checked in and gets our name tags. It was nice to see so many new faces. It proves that our community is growing and getting more popular. After I walked around the different tasting stations, I started strategizing my game-​plan going to the event. And it began with Blue gave us a brief introduction of the lady from Whole Foods who worked with Blue and organized the event. Then we were shown a Reverse Seared Ribeye cooking demonstration from their in-​house butcher. It was truly amazing. And then, we were off to the 7 different station, each featured a different kind of meat paired with a beer or wine (well, except the last station which is the desert).
Station 1 — Reverse Seared Ribeye paired with an imperial stout. It was probably one of my favorite foods for the evening. Probably because I just saw the demonstration on how it was prepared. It was cooked in the oven first, and then it was rested before putting on a hot pan to get that nice sear. Yum!
Station 2 — Herb Crusted Beef Tenderloin paired with claret. The tenderloin was very tender and the gorgonzola and mushrooms added a nice touch.
Station 3 — Grass-​Fed Beef Tartare paired with butter chardonnay. At first I was a little worried eating raw beef. But after learning how fresh and the quality of the beef Whole Foods uses, I was pleasantly surprised on how refreshing the tartare tasted. It makes a great summer dish.
Station 4 — Pan Seared Flat-​Iron Chimichurri paired with Sarachi Ace Saison — I love chimichurri, and even better on a steak. And who doesn’t love food cooked on a stick! LOL!
Station 5 — Grilled Peach Teriyaki Bison Strip Steak paired with Rose — It’s probably my second favorite MEAT of the evening. It was cooked on a BBQ grill with a touch of teriyaki sauce. I thought the bison was going to be tough, but it was very tender and moist.
Station 6 — Mashed Potato Kale Cesar Salad — With all those MEAT, I guess a salad dish is very much needed. I am not a salad person, and I thought I was not going to like it, but I really enjoyed the Kale. It was dressed very well, and the mash potato was excellent too.
Station 7 — Desert. I tried the chocolate mousse cake. It was rich and delicious. I wish I could’ve tried the donuts, but by then I was so full I just can’t eat anymore… LOL!
Again, big thanks to Blue and his team for their efforts putting this event together. The wonderful team at Whole Foods was so friendly and so accommodating. It was cool to mingle with old friends on Unilocal!while making new friends to people I never met in person before. Not only I learned a few tips on how to prepare different cuts of meat, I also found a new place where I can shop for all the groceries I need in preparing a dinner party.

There was certainly a WHOLE Lotta FOOD in my belly from this event! Another pants unbuttoned hahaha
How can I not give this event 5 stars?!
Everything was so perfect and charming!
I really couldn’t picture an event at whole foods at first and I was kind of worried of the food since sadly, for me, I’m not much of a healthy eater. But a huge carnivore and I’m all about the fried food life!
But thou shall not doubt the Unilocaling power of Blue!
He made this event… The bomb!!!
Plus even one of the recipes, real healthy one! Particularly the mashed potato, had no dairy in it! It definitely fooled me! It was so delicious I got two plates of it! Smh
But the real stars were the different STEAKS!
I don’t even remember the name of the steaks coz all I saw was YUM, YUMMY, YUMMIER! I had to check back at Savanna M’s review since she had an awesome review with the whole list of steak names lol.
There was Herb crusted beef tenderloin, Reverse seared Ribeye, flat iron chimichurri and my favorite the I fell inlove with, the PEACH TERIYAKI BISON STRIP STEAK.
and you know what was so awesome? The staff was so friendly and on point that at ALL the steak stations, they didn’t hesitate to give me a sample of their fattier area steak when I asked for them lol
I went to multiple stations, multiple times dancing on my way to the stations as the awesome live music goes on.
There was bubbly to pair with on every dish. And to sweeten the night, doughnuts and shooters were delivered!
The staff were so friendly and I got the pleasure to meet and trivia the cheese certified specialist!
It was also awesome having convos about more food and cupcakes with Elizabeth, Sam and Crystal! Damien’s first event too!

Good Moorning all! So excited that I got to attend one of the summer of steak events! This event was so good for so many reasons. Jennifer & Blue did a great job here at whole foods. I got some great tips on how to cook what i considered, a master level rib eye. I loved that the staff were all very bubbly and friendly when they made there introductions and also when talking one on one.
I like that we were gladly given a wine glass to hold onto for the entire event, to refill as you tasted and paired with different items. First up, was the rib eye of course, normally i always order medium well, which I’ve been told is not the best way to eat steak, but I’ve always been a bit of a COWard… see what i did there… After hearing him explain the difference in the cooking methods and the impact it has on flavors, not to mention the smell that captivates you, I was more than willing to try. In the words of Michelle C., «it melts in your mouth!» You almost don’t want to chew. I was very pleased and it didn’t even bother me that it wasn’t well done.
After mingling, meeting & greetings, I met Rebecca who is a Cheese EXPERT, which I just wanted to throw in there because I think its so c

It was a carnivore’s delight and everything was pat down perfect for it. Name tags already made out, Whole Food glassware with a start off of champagne. Then the meats, oh my, those delicious meats! Everything from fresh mixed before your very eyes sirloin tartare (a fav of mine and by the way, thank you Whole Foods for your recipe on that) to tenderloin, to ribeye, to a flat iron cut and more. Like our host, Whole Foods and their professional staff really went all out for us on this, so thank you Whole Foods and my compliments on this store as being the best Whole Foods Market I’ve ever seen.
Then there were the beers and wines, with the beers being some of the most interesting ever, and for that one rather seemingly out of place vegetarian Unilocaler, a nice Caesar with mash potato. So, essentially something for everyone.
Thank you Unilocal and thank you Blue. You’ve done it again!!! Top notch perfect all the way.

This was great first event. The steaks were really delicious. I tried steak tar tar for the first time tonight and it was good. I will pass on it next time though lol. Now the rib eye; wow, Yum! That was my favorite. The wine selection was pretty good and the live music added a nice touch.
Overall a great night! I honestly didn’t know what to expect pulling up to Whole Foods. But once I got in there, I realized quickly what Unilocal was really about. These events are really about the people. Even tho this was my first event, I felt like I knew most of the people there for a while. It really felt like a community of friends getting together to chit chat and try some really good steaks over wine. People really go out of there way to welcome you. I didn’t expect that at all. I can’t wait for the next event.
