Dear Elmer Candy Corp, thanks to your completely irresistible Easter candies – which I found on the shelves of my local Walgreens on Ash Wednesday – I foiled a mugging tonight. Yes, I was able to honestly tell my mugger that I didn’t have any money in my purse, just candy. Yes, it’s true. Why didn’t I have any money? Because I spent it all on your delicious candy! Thank you for making irresistible candies that I can’t wait to export to my friends. Thank you for saving my purse tonight, too. It’s awfully nice that I don’t have to go canceling my credit cards right before I deliver those fabulous Gold Brick Eggs and Heavenly Hash Eggs to my dear friends in Georgia and North Carolina. xoxo, –suzanne c, devoted fan and Lenten ignorer

Do you know the only thing that is better than a basketful of Gold Brick and Pecan Eggs on Easter morning from local Elmer Candy Corparation? A heart shaped box of Elmer chocolates on Valentine’s Day. Who knew Elmer had chocolates? I did not until my son came home with one from a classmate today. Since he isn’t big on chocolate I stole that heart shaped box from him and ate them. Every last one. They were gooood, too. Nothing beats Gold Brick Eggs for Easter. Except maybe Pecan Eggs. I love this company and love that they’re local and will always support them by eating up all of their yummy sweet concoctions that I can get my hands on. Yay for Elmer’s!

Oh look, I’m reviewing Elmer’s candy AGAIN. That’s because the dark chocolate gold brick egg is genius. GENIUS, I say. Seriously, this is the candy of my childhood… speaking of, when did they stop making an Elmer’s peanut butter egg? Or are they just hard to find? That was Brother #1’s favorite. Heavenly Hash eggs? DELICIOUS Gold Break eggs? MUSTEAT Pecan eggs? TASTY What are you waiting for? They’re on sale now since it’s the day after Easter.

Repeat after me: Gold Brick Egg. Gold Brick Egg. Got it? Good. Like many others, I was unaware that Elmer’s was a New Orleans company. I should have known since the display at K&B was always fairly extensive, but as a kid you don’t always realize things like that. If you love your children, their Easter basket will not be complete with out Heavenly Hash or Gold Brick Eggs. All of the other candy is secondary. If you don’t have kids and want to impress a significant other, friend or random stranger, the same rule applies. In closing, check out Elmer Candy, you’ll be happy that you did.

Full disclosure: up until about 3 years ago I had NOIDEA that Elmer’s was local. I thought that every kid got a basket full of Gold Brick and Heavenly Hash eggs from the Easter Bunny. I guess we’re just special and the bunny likes us best. Or maybe I’m just a dope. Who doesn’t love a Heavenly Hash egg? Put that baby in the refrigerator… are you kidding me? Do it next time you have one, unless you don’t like having your mind blown. I remember when the Saints won the Superbowl and they came out with the Gold Bricks and Heavenly Hash with Sir Saint on them. I still have some. They are hard as rocks and I wouldn’t eat them, but I thought they would be a neat thing to have… for… the future. I don’t know.
