Charming exterior and interior. My belgian waffle was delicious! Our server was very friendly but service seemed a bit on the slow side. Fortunately, we had a lovely view of a quaint little bungalow in the backyard so the wait was tolerable. A great find, I’ll definitely be back!

Wouldn’t have known about this place without the Unilocal reviewers. Thank you. Huge portions(don’t know what Mike E. is talking about), but damn. This place was delicious. We had three entrees AND drinks AND sides AND I bought a ton of stuff for my mom from their bakery for around 50 bucks. I gave the waiter a 20 dollar tip. he was THAT good. Service was superb, the food was delicious and the décor was excellent without being pretentious. It has a very intimate feel to it.

Interesting place. My mother knows I love German food so she told me she had heard about this place in the local newspaper. I told her we should go together for lunch that weekend which we did. I don’t know how anyone would ever find this place if they didn’t know it already existed. It’s in a house that I happened to pass up because I did not realize it was in a house. The restaurant’s serving area is a tiny little room. I doubt it seats very many people, but we went at a slow time so it was empty. I ordered the mixed grill and my mother went with the Jagerschnitzel. My mom had never had German food before, but she ended up loving her dish. The mixed grill was also excellent. After we had our lunch we walked into the bakery and we each picked up a strudel. I had the cream cheese and my mother had the praline. Both were excellent. Will definitely make the drive to this place again sometime.

You wouldn’t know about Taste of Bavaria unless you pass by it every day… and most of the world doesn’t do that. Off the beaten path of most travellers, this spot is off one of the main surface roads in the Ponchatoula area. It’s a moderate-sized house that has been retrofitted into a bakery and restaurant, comprising two main dining rooms. If you are lucky enough to catch this place when they are open, they are sure to impress. Breakfast and brunch are the mainstays of Taste of Bavaria, specializing in more traditional German-type dishes. Of particular interest are the breakfast platters, which are basically a smörgåsbord of fruits, charcuterie, and little extras here and there(like fresh baked rolls, eggs cooked to order, etc.). Being true to German roots, there are various sausages and whatnot on the menu as well. Overall, worth taking a road trip for the experience. Breakfast or brunch is recommended. Simple and satisfying.

My expectations were higher than my experience. We walked in and waited to be seated. The girl at the pastry counter never even acknowledged us. Finally a waitress looked at us and told us it would be just a minute. Finally someone from the kitchen came out and asked if we have been helped. After being ignored for a while, we finally were seated. Our waitress was okay. She was fast and helpful. Our food arrived in a timely manner. Two members of our party ordered a dish where poached eggs played a vital role. I ordered corned beef hash with poached eggs. The other person ordered eggs benedict sardou. All of the poached eggs were actually hard boiled. A runny yolk is needed to complete the overall experience of each of these dishes. And we were not able to enjoy the dish the way it was intended. You have to have one of your top chefs cooking breakfast on a busy Saturday morning. Or at least a chef capable of executing the different ways in which eggs can be prepared. We reported the poached egg incident to the waitress, but she was hardly apologetic. The only good experience was the bacon and the bite of waffle I tasted. Perhaps I was there on a bad day, but it will be a long while before I give them another chance.

Always a great stop for breakfast setting the table for a great trip to The Big Easy. Branched out a bit and went for Eggs Benedict Sardou. English Muffins toasted and smothered with a light creamed spinach. On top of this, each poached egg was resting in an artichoke heart, all of this topped with a creamy hollandaise. I can also vouch for Belgian waffle and traditiontal German sausages on prior trips. Also for the Bacon lovers, thick cut and good portions. Hadn’t eaten here in over a year, but am glad to know their food is consistently good. Less than 3 miles off I-55. Do the deal!

We got a king cake from Taste of Bavaria, delivered lovingly by a friend for another friend’s birthday. The cake itself was delicious — many folds of cake/crème filling/cake again to make it moist and delicious. I just have ONE complaint… WHEREWASTHEBABY?! King cake fail. Sad.

Best baklava ever! Charming setting located right off the highway. They are closed some weekdays which seem to be the days I always try to go for breakfast.

Good food and adorable setting. What a find. Best place in Ponchatoula– which isn’t saying much. My one gripe is that the mixed grill scimped on the sausages. If you are in the area this is a must. Don’t even bother with all of the mediocre food along the main strip. The bread looked delicious– and my daughter loved it. Sandwiches looked yummy too. If I am in the neighborhood I would definitely come back– easy enough to eat low carb here though the bread smells so good it might be tempting to cheat. Since they don’t really have vegetable offerings other than potatoes I wouldn’t make a trip especially to come here– all I can eat is sausage and sauerkraut– but if you are looking for a German restaurant then this place is worth a trip.
