Captains Quarters Inn

Came here for one night on a quick girls getaway.
Pros: inexpensive, very clean, carpet free room, pet friendly for only $ 10 and helpful staff.
Cons: too far to walk to the beach, signs everywhere that your dog can’t even pee on the grass (um, what?), the breakfast is carb city-​no eggs or meat at all and strange drain noises from the bathroom when trying to sleep.
I think if prices are comparable then we will try somewhere else next time.

OK, So I get the relaxed older vibe of Port A, and appreciate it… but I am pretty sure the Captains Quarters Inn has embraced the «older» vibe with full gusto. Not only were the rooms dated, the room it self was is various stages of «I think I will remodel but will Half arse it… holes in the wall from unfinished shower installation and towel racks (even I know how to spackle). There was a old musty smell that even the few travel candles couldn’t beat out. When we requested an additional washcloth (yes, wash cloth not towel) because the cleaning service (using the term lightly here) had only left one, we were told if we brought up the dirty we could get a clean. The second hand furniture was pretty beat up, chipped, and stained. I swear I think pieces of furniture had been removed, leaving behind those marks on the wall in the paint where a night table and desk once had a home. Management may want to check the infrastructure as well, I heard every last footstep of the herd staying upstairs as they departed at 5:30 for the planned fishing trip. Next time, I will stick with the chains.

Booked this through expedia, and after driving 5 hours from houston I found out they cancelled my room. Andy came out, with his amazing customer service skills, and said it was my fault that they had been calling me and couldn’t get in touch because my card was declined.
There were no extra rooms available on the island so my trip was ruined.
My confirmation email specifically said I didn’t have to pay until I got there and that I had until 5am to check in. You weren’t allowed to check in until 3pm. I arrived at 830 pm. They blamed it on expedia when in fact, I called the manager at expedia and my room was still booked through them. What a surprise.
I have worked in customer service for 8 years and I would never tell someone it was their fault when it was clearly cancelled due to no fault of my own.
I ended up crashing with a friend who already had a room there and the room was gross, towels had hair on them. I realIIze now why they are so cheap.
I hope everyone including Andy’s manager sees this. It ruined my vacation weekend and upset me so bad I cried.
I would give this place .1 stars if it allowed me, the .1 because atleast the receptionist lady was trying to help. Andy was inconsiderate, rude, and unprofessional.

Captain’s Quarters was one of the few hotels/​motels/​inns we found in Port A that (a) was available for booking online, and (b) allowed you to stay just one night. In spite of the abundant terrible reviews of the place, we decided to risk it, knowing that we’d be spending most of our time at the beach, anyway.
As it turns out, Captain’s Quarters was totally fine. It wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t fancy, but it was clean, reasonably priced, and close enough to food, liquor stores, and the beach (by car). We were perfectly content with our choice.

Seriously this place deserves NO stars.
It was beyond disgusting. So gross we couldn’t even sit in the room for 5 minutes without wanting to be sick.
As soon as we opened the door the place just smelled like cigarette smoke. The smell was just soaked into the room. There were stains on all the furniture and they smelled bad. The bed was made but once you got closer it didn’t look like they changed the sheets. The restroom door didn’t even close. Plus when you went into the restroom the tub was so dirty and so was the floor. The girls cleaning the room next to ours where walking around barefoot in raggedy clothes and blasting music. They were barely cleaning at all.
My mom and I went straight to the office and luckily they gave us a full refund including the deposit.
I will never ever go here again. If your looking for a place to stay, definitely spend a few more dollars to stay anywhere but here.

Bed sheets were not changed! Still had crumbs and hair in it! Gross! Rooms need major updating, tubs are gross-​dont forget shower shoes!
Continental breakfast was decent b/​c of waffle maker — no scrambled eggs though.
Hotel did not have wi-​fi but was picking it up from somewhere, and it didn’t let me access anything
