Holy Smoke. Literally. We are from Austin and are used to breathing clean air, which is a rare commodity in Port A. I’m actually pretty sure the smoke escaping the doors of Lovettes is the reason. Even the beer tastes like smoke. Anyway. There’s karaōke on Tuesday which is pretty amusing. And the drinks are cheap if your short on cash.

HOWTHEMIGHTYHAVEFALLEN. Nothing ruins the feeling of a long-awaited homecoming like having your dog kicked out of the bar because once upon a time a «pit bull» got in a fight there. NEVERMIND the unaltered male dog walking around the place on no leash making every other dog in the bar nervous. But my well behaved, sleeping under the table pit mix had to go. Ugh. Also they’ve cleaned up the place and installed lights and took down all the pictures of people doing blowjob shots, so it feels a lot less divey inside now.

Rad little bar! Came down from Austin. Jaimie the bartender was super kind to us, we drank with the locals, and had a blast also super inexpensive drinks … Just go. Cheers guys, be back soon!

My husband and I honeymooned in Port A last week, and came across Lovetts on our first day. We ended up going back every day that week! It was a great dive, we loved the laid back atmosphere and friendly staff. Jaime was very friendly and awesome to talk to. Great selection of classic rock on the jukebox, and great drink specials every day. We will be sure to go back on our next trip to Port Aransas!

Best dive bar on the island IMO. Dog friendly, cheap drinks, and one hell of a good time. Pool, karaōke, shuffle board, darts, and fireman décor. ++No Shoes Required++

We did both Lovett’s and Salty Dog and I have to say that I prefer the former. The whole scene seems more genuine and folks aren’t trying so hard to «party». You could write a novel about virtually any one of the regulars that we met over the course of the evening. Bonus points for the old school jukebox, reasonable prices and decent draft beer.

Ah, Lovett’s! Say the name out loud a few times, and you’ll see how catchy it is. I’ll admit, the main attraction when it came to this dive was their sign that advertised: Shuffleboard, Wii Sports and Karaōke at 9 pm. The kitschy island meets firefighter(?) theme was only the icing on the cake that had me set on trying it out. The smell of smoke is heavily ingrained inside of Lovett’s as it appears are the faces of many a local. Well, by many, I mean about 10 or so, the place wasn’t packed. But it seemed like everyone knew one another and called each other by their first name. The décor is a trip! T-shirts hanging from the ceiling, hey, there’s one from Cisco’s in Austin! A giant stuffed animal dressed as a fireman, I still don’t get the connection, but I went with it and a myriad of other things that don’t go together so much as just fill up space on the walls. It’s an alright place, there’s plenty to do to fill your time there, and the small pitcher of Dos Equis only cost $ 5.50. So I say, go to Lovett’s and take in the local flair, it’s quite entertaining.
