Step in for the little slice of Americana that is the independent hardware store. Have a key made, mix some paint, purchase some glass or screen or pipe or wire – custom cut to your specifications. Pick up some sandpaper, some fire ant killer, some wood glue and a wrench. Is it a hammer you are looking for? Choose between ball peen, claw, rubber or sledge. Something that cuts? Peruse the hatchet and axe and lopper and pocket knife selections. Nab a nut, buy a bolt, put your DIY hat on and become one with your inner HGTV star who’s been fighting to get out.
No Drago Hardware doesn’t offer the variety of Home Depot, nor the volume pricing of Lowe’s, but it kills the big boxes in customer service and charm. On my recent visit, I caught the owner wiring a light kit onto a ceiling fan for a customer… at no charge. How is that for service?
