Great food in a friendly atmosphere. Great for a picky eater like me; pick what you want and have it cooked up! Worth the expense.

I enjoyed this restaurant until they started hiring meth addict wait staff! They changed my tip by upping the total $ 10. It was $ 20 total and they add a 1 in front of their tip and changed the 2 to a 3! I almost didn’t catch it! But who tips $ 12 on $ 16 when the service is horrible! Pay cash only if you eat here! The manager does not care that her staff is on drugs or steals from the customers by padding their tips! I called to give them the benefit of the doubt, but the manager believes her staff over the customer with a receipt! Typical PA behavior!

Food was great and the large bowl was $ 15 but it is worth it if you pile on the food. I put enough in my large bowl to eat a full meal and take a full meal home. A couple of things were incorrect but the food was amazing. The to go boxes are actual tuperware. Very nice.

I would not recommend this place. Our server was horrible, the appetizer was less than appealing. It was our first time and it was like pulling teeth trying to figure out what to do. I just would NOT recommend it. Pretty pricey too

We went about an hour after opening. The hostess was very sweet and even brought the bowl sizes to explain how big the portions were. 3 stars because it took forever for them to cook the food. And when we got the food it was burnt. Pork was completely charcoaled and you couldn’t even tell I had broccoli.

Last time we went here it was so dirty! Food all over the bar and floor plus on the tables also. Wait staff was rude and very poor quality of service. Asked for a straw and had to ask three more times. Finally got one from another waiter. We ended up with meat in our food that we didn’t pick out for our bowl and some extra veggies we didn’t pick either. Will not be going back here until they clean it up and maybe even get a new manager.

I really wanted to have a star studded comment saying that they have turned things around and that everyone should give them a chance. Alas, I can not do so. I received a email a few months ago stating they had brought back shrimp, although excited, this was not enough to make me give them a second chance. Well, today I received a «Birthday» email stating I could get a free Regular Bowl. I figured free was worth trying and even if they charged me for a drink… I was completely ok with free. So here is my visit today: 11:06am Enter restaurant 11:08am seated, informed who my server is 11:12am Friend ask me to lunch I tell him where I am and he can come meet me 11:23am Finally a server visits my table gets drink order, but does not acknowledge time it took.(it’s only 11:20am) the restaurant is NOT busy. Blah blah blah business a usual… NOSHRIMP!!! What?!? Figures… 12:11pm We are asked twice if this was together or separate… 15 minutes to just get check. Now late returning to work. 12:33pm Finally back at work.(Luckily I would close) The only reason I gave it two stars is because my meal was free for my Birthday and I thank Genghis Grill for that, but I will not be back anytime soon.

I went here when it first opened and enjoyed it. However when I tried to take my whole family of 6 here this past weekend after shopping the experience was not so good. When we walked in the sign say please wait to be seated, so we waited the young lady that was working walk by us several times and never acknowledged our presence. She actually rolled her eyes there were only 4 other groups of people there. After about 3min we just left and went right next door to McAllister and received GREAT service. I have tried calling the manager several times and he keeps avoiding me, Troy thanks for nothing.

What happened? When I first came here it was as good as any of the ones in Houston. Now it really stinks. Stinks as in smells bad. The food was just as bad. I love Asian food and this isn’t even bad Asian. It’s just bad. After going thru the line and picking out our meat and veggies I noticed some of this stuff did not look as fresh as it could have. I doubt very seriously if we will return. My recommendation is to go over to Nederland avenue and eat Vietnamese.

My food was a little burnt. The waitress was busy chatting with other workers rather than refill my drink. No going back again.

I’ve never seen a place go downhill faster. It seems as if no one cares in here anymore. The place is bare. Everything is empty and they cut shrimp off the menu. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this place go under soon. Sad to see because I love the food most times.

The food was cooked well, but it’s just not a place for me… but it seems a good place for germs and cross-contamination. First, I understand the concept and dining experience to pick your food and walk the process of its creation to get exactly what you may want. I am an avid cook myself, but I am not sure I am pleased with the process here. Pros: — picking your quantity of items for your bowl — adding the seasonings for your bowl — choosing the sauces for your bowl Cons: — our«steamed» appetizer dumplings were cold and arrived after we got our entrée — the ingredients area was dreadfully tattered with food droppings from customers bowls — the counter where you place your food to be cooked was dirty/messy/sticky and I honestly didn’t want to touch it — the person checking your order at the drop-off counter could have been a better host(since he is, after all, about to cook your food for you) Overall, these are my notes. We had a good waiter named Troy and he did his best to explain the process, fill our drinks, and do all of the things a waiter should do. no problem there. The person scooping your protein’s and others was courteous and cordial and did his best to keep his side of the service island clean and sanitary, but the customer side was NOT that tidy. Hands naturally touch, rub, and slide along the marble and bring all the germs with them. Sticky food droppings. yep. they were there. Next, we had no bowl carrier or other item to carry your bowl in. In example, I was carrying two orders(myself and a child) so I HAD to slide the bowls across the food debris between stations while prepping the meal. thus my bowl got sticky from the bottom. Having a carrying vessel(or tray) would help GREATLY in these situations. Finally, at the end the cooking area had 5 – 6 people. Two actively cooking, THREE leaning against the opposite side of the grilling just talking to the two cooking(while drinking sodas), and only ONE person to come get our order, barely making eye-contact or cordials when asking«food allergies?» and it kinda set a rough inconvenient tone for disturbing them and their day. I do not know the staffing responsibilities, but I would like to suggest that if you are leaning around NOT actively cooking. how about coming to the counter and CLEANINGIT? How about removing the broken eggs(sitting in the ice bowl) or swapping out for fresh ice? How about simply greeting customers, improving the dining experience or assisting the kid taking my order asking about food allergies? In the end, I get the concept and I can see the benefit of choosing your own items for cooking. I just do not like the process when there are so many possible concerns with bacteria transfer, messy areas, queued food lines when it’s not even crowded, and a cold appetizer coming out AFTER my entrée has already been cooked. I gave them 3 Stars only because Troy kept our table cleaned and drinks filled while assisting us a good waiter should(especially when explaining to us «newbies» the process) I may give them another try, but since I do not come this area that often, it may not be too likely.

Against my better judgment, I decided to give this place another chance — bad call. What kind of Mongolian grill doesn’t offer shrimp on its menu?! As I read the other reviews for this place, it is clear that this has occurred continuously for several months, so it is not a temporary outage. Table service was acceptable, which was an improvement from my previous visits. The two guys working the grill were cheerful, but moving way too slow; there is no reason for 4 – 5 orders to be awaiting your attention when there are only a dozen people in the restaurant. The restroom was filthy. The restaurant was not at all busy, so it is difficult to justify the restroom’s condition. This is not my first visit to this location, but it will probably be my last.

As has been presented here, the first few times we came after their opening(we were invited to the soft opening) everything was pleasant. The waitstaff were cordial, the food bar was stocked and items were cooked as requested. The last two times we went things were very different. The waiter(s) were inattentive, items were missing from the food bar(shrimp both times and one of the veggies the last time) our latest visit the food arrived way over cooked and inedible. Burnt food should never make it out of the kitchen, much less served by wait staff. Our complaint fell on deaf ears of the waiter, we didn’t bother to seek the manager — staff on the floor appeared harried. We won’t be going back. Addendum: a quick phone call to the restaurant before posting this revealed there still isn’t shrimp available; this some weeks after our last visit.

When the place first opened, I was pretty impressed with it. The build your own stir fry is fairly unique for this area, and my first couple of visits were quite nice. The restaurant was efficient, clean, the food bar was well stocked, and the service was friendly and attentive. What happened? The last three times I’ve been there(from early September to mid October) the experience has made a complete 180. During lunch time, the dining room is noticeably confused, with the hostess more often than not unsure whether tables are ready. After being seated, I’ve consistently gotten servers that were mumbly and inattentive, who typically got my drink order wrong(and in a restaurant like this, that’s most of their job), and usually refill those drinks with one hand while toting dirty dishes in the other(I’m not a clean freak, but something about that rubs me wrong). The restaurant hasn’t had shrimp for weeks, with signs posted about a price increase(which doesn’t seem to have affected the local grocery stores), more often than not they’re out of at least one other meat, and today several of the vegetable bins were empty. They’re usually out of the metal cups for the sauce, leaving the plastic ones that don’t hold the same amount. Both the food bar and the counter where you place your order are quite messy, bordering on filthy, with food scraps lying there in wet puddles. Most disturbing to me is their lack of attention in their cooking. My last(and believe me, my LAST) visit, I saw a cook dump the raw ingredients onto the grill, where a piece of raw sausage flipped into the food bowl, where it was ignored, so someone got to eat a piece of raw sausage. This bothered me, but not enough to refuse my own food, thinking it was surely a fluke. When I received my bowl, it was the wrong size(but they at least put the right ingredients in), and when I was nearly finished I bit into a chunk of pineapple – which I did not include in my bowl. So the ingredient-flipping is surely more common than I had hoped, which makes their«Are you allergic to anything?» question upon ordering rather ironic. At the very least, they did charge me for the size bowl they brought me. This restaurant started with a lot of promise, but for whatever reason went straight downhill at an astonishing rate. It isn’t just the lunchtime rush; it was decidedly mediocre, though not as bad, on a Sunday afternoon. I don’t like giving bad reviews, but the practice at this location are downright dangerous. And I won’t outright accuse them of causing this, but there have been some distinct rumblings in my digestive tract that coincidentally started a couple of hours after I ate there. I recommend avoiding this location.

First ever visit to any Genghis Grill! Here’s how it works: You’re seated at a table, a waiter/waitress comes to take your drink and appetizer order, then you are told to proceed to the food preparation area. Once you get to the food area, you pick your bowl size, then your proteins, a variety of seasonings, vegetables, and then sauce. They will allow you to sample the sauce choices on small taster spoons. Once you’re done picking your sauce, you are greeted by the person at the grill and they ask you what starch you want(noodles, rice, fried rice). Finally, you leave your bowl at the grill and return to your seat while your food is being cooked. Your cooked bowl is later brought to your table. There were young kids there, so if you think your kids will eat chinese food, I would go for it! I didn’t see any options for chicken nuggets and french fries. Be prepared though, if your kid orders chicken, they will probably be handed a bowl of raw chicken, so you may want to have an extra hand available for carrying their bowl through the food choice area. It was definitely a fun and interesting dinner concept! You have total control over what you are eating, which is good for people with food allergies, and you can eat healthy here. One issue we had was that they were playing the music loud, & it was really hard to hear and communicate with the people in the food area. Granted, the man serving in the protein choice area was really quiet, we both had a hard time communicating with him. My husband had to settle for a smaller bowl than he wanted because the man didn’t hear what size he requested. Also, if you have someone in your party who is unfamiliar with cooking, it may be hard for them to decide what combinations taste good together. My husband was unsure of what spices and veggies would go well with the shrimp he chose. There may not be any wrong choices, but it’s best to go in prepared. You can do your homework prior to your visit by going to their website which lists good food choice combinations under the section titled, «Build a Genghis Bowl.» Overall, it’s a fun experience! We got our food very quickly, so you can eat here if you’re in a time crunch.
