Use to be great long time ago. Was bought out and pretty much run into the ground. Another new owner now who is trying to bring it back but still has far to go. Service is almost always terrible; I went as far as to leave no tip when I went there last year because the service was that bad and I am usually a pretty generous tipper. Salad bar is overpriced for what it offers; use to have macaroni salad, pasta salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, cottage cheese, all your salad fixings, etc. now it just has lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, croutons and dressing. There is no point, just order a salad instead. Also their wings are sold at market price! I couldn’t even believe that when I saw that — it’s not lobster, it’s chicken wings! And on top of their insance price, if you get the wings to go they charge you an extra dollar!(And I don’t mean for delivery either, for pick up it is extra!!) Their prices are very high, however, they do have some of the best wings I have ever had. They are my absolute favorite, ordered extra crispy! You also must try their«House Dressing» if you stop here. You can order it with a salad, on your wings, try it on the salad bar or by a mason jar full of it to take home with you. It is amazing, my family makes our pasta salad with their house dressing instead of traditional italian and it’s the only pasta salad I like!

I have dined at The Hitchin’ Post for over 30 years. Originally, it was small, intimate, & cozy. The owner was the cook. The bar was in the same room as the dining tables, but activity at the bar wasn’t intrusive. The place has grown, ownership has changed, but the service has remained casual and unhurried. The food has had cycles of good/poor/good/excellent. I blame different cooks, coming & going over the years. Currently, the food is very good. The prices are fair, the service is good, but I do miss the once excellent salad bar. I recommend driving out to Belden Hill, & having a country dining experience I think you’ll want to enjoy time & time again. If you enter through the door on the right, you go directly into the dining room. You’ll miss the curious looks from the folks at the bar, mentioned by a previous critic.
