My girlfriend and I returned to the Port Ewen Diner for dinner on Friday, February 5, 2016. We arrived at about 6:30pm. There were no tables available, so we decided not to wait. They only problem was that we drove for about one half hour from New Paltz, so we really wasted one hour, round trip. Their dinner specials are good, but the items on their regular dinner menu are average/ordinary diner fare. The basic reason why they are do busy has more to do with their location than their food. There are no other diners within the locality of Port Ewen. So basically, if you are hoping to dine at this diner on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evening, between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:00pm, please don’t expect to find an open table.

Visited this diner for the first time this evening. The booth we sat at was a little dirty. The waitress greeted us and took our drink order and then came back to take our order. Ordered a pizza burger deluxe and it was just so so. My wife ordered a chicken cordon bleu sandwich and she had to look for the chicken as it was the thinnest piece that did not come close to filling the bun. My son ordered the grilled cheese and bacon and it no likeness to what they posted online. Waitress did not come back to ask to refil my drink until after i was done eating. Anyway it was just an okay experience but would not return. We were in the area for a car show and should have eaten elsewhere. $ 30+ tip was too much.

Came here for dinner three weeks ago, and while the staff was somewhat courteous, the food was far feom edible. I had an open roast beef sandwich, which is something I like to try at most diners along with the corned beef Reuben. roast beef came out dry, in fact so dry, that no amount of gravy in the world would save it. the potatoes equally as dry and stiff, perhaps they were from the night before? I didn’t want to send it back but I also didn’t eat more than three bites and when I told the waitress about it, she said that she was sorry but they could not take it off the bill! and did not offer to get me anything else… I decided to give this place the benefit of the doubt and get a corned beef Reuben. never again. I have never been so sick in my entire life, epic food poisoning and although I hate bash an eating establishment since I have been a waitress/bartender for 30+ years, and given the fact that my friend who also ate with me that day was DEATHLY sick too(from a cheeseburger). .. . I strongly advise caution if you really want to eat here, unless you have paid sick time from work.

I had the Happy Waitress meal that came with fries both were good as well as the service. I would like to come back here again to try something different. It sure doesn’t look like a diner on the outside, but that okay I like it when things look different and it have some appeal to it.

Worst wait staff I ever experienced, food average not outstanding. Compares to hospital food.

Came for a late lunch @ 2:30. Was seated and then had to listen to the waitress and what I assume was the manager argue in the dining room. This was VERY unprofessional. The order was made wrong, and the tuna melts were beyond soggy. I only gave two stars because the french fries were amazing. A very disappointing experience all the way around!

Great diner! The owners and staff have become like family. Love the food. They have a loyalty program/card — for every $ 150 you spend you get back $ 10. They also have gluten free options.

I went in for a quick bite this morning, juggling the baby of course. I figured an everything bagel, toasted with cream cheese would be quick and easy. I even got it to go since since the only seats available were at the bar. It finally came out, after quite a wait. I paid and left. Sitting in the case I opened it up and the bagel was dark to say the least. They hadn’t even spread the cream cheese. It was literally just a slice off a block, thrown on. I wrapped it back up and will now be heading somewhere else for breakfast. As for the staff, I’m used to diners having that open, friendly staff. The women working all acted like they didn’t want to be there. Not out right rude, but definitely not friendly.

For a diner it’s a good one. Décor looks like your grandma’s kitchen. Staff is nice. Good is what you’d expect at a diner.

The Port Ewen diner has just changed ownership from what I understand. They have a very loyal customer base and are always very busy. Especially on weekends and evenings so be prepared to wait for a table if you go primetime. We order and pick up, they are always fast(10 minutes or so) and the food is always consistently good. We always order basic dishes, soup, pancakes, sandwichs etc. Always at least acceptable or better. Very happy with continuing business and am very glad they are so close!

Just having moved to Ulster County from Brooklyn, of course we needed a new go-to diner. PE Diner is it. Great diner food, daily specials, no-problem attitude, your coffee cup never runs dry. Ellen, at the front desk, Sandy, serving, and all the gang make you feel right at home. Gary & Lisa are the gracious owners.

Not a huge place(probably less than half the size of the Broadway Lights diner in Kingston), but the food is good and reasonably priced. However: NOTE they are closed for a couple of weeks. There is a sign out front advertising that they have new owners and will reopen in October(2013). I see they are doing some renovations. Will come back to report on the changes.

Compared to most diners in the general mid-hudson valley, Port Ewen Diner’s got a lot going for it. Friendly service, well-cooked not too oily brunch/lunch/dinner fare. I still miss my NY-style diner«Stop Inn»(in Queens) but Port Ewen is more than an acceptable alternative.
