Switched here recently from Golds Gym in Islip as this gym is much closer to my house and more than half the price. Ironically, even at half the price this place has just as much, if not more than golds. For example golds didn’t have a tire flipping area, which has become a new favorite of mine. They were running a special recently for a free PT session and I had an hour session with Craig. He was very nice, knowledgable, and encouraging. He helped me with my form and gave me tips for improvement. As a soon to be personal trainer myself, getting advice like this was exactly what I wanted/needed. I’m sure all the trainers here are great but I would highly recommend Craig after an awesome session with him. The gym is clean, people rerack their weights(a rare occurrence at Golds), and even during peak hours it’s not absurdly busy. I’m very happy I made the switch to this gym and I would highly recommend it.

Edit: Regarding the comment from the company… This is simply not true. Don’t take my word for it, just walk in there any day when it is warm out. It is hotter in there than it is outside, and the air is very stagnant. The air is stale and steamy even in the winter. Solution: In the summer fix your AC. In all seasons make sure the unit fans are always on and have the economizers open to 10%. I understand people work out but I have been going to gyms for a while now, and in fact I have been entering the building they have been in since Fitness Plus opened ages ago, and the conditions are never as bad as they are in your place. their units are old and probably need replacement. Original review: I have been going to this gym since before it was Retro Fitness. They have a lot of equipment, and it is good for those who want to do weight lifting or body building. There are a lot of big dudes there, and also women. It is now a reasonable $ 20 a month. The one thing that is terrible there is they have completely non functional HVAC. Even in the middle of winter you walk in there and it is steamy, smelly and stuffy. There is no air circulation whatsoever. Now that it has warmed up it is hot as hell in there. I wrote to the Retro Fitness headquarters, and they replied and said they are going to address it but 2 months later it is worse. They think having fans blowing around hot humid stinky air is «air circulation». Would be great if they just fixed this as everyone in there is complaining how hot it is, but they are too cheap. I’ll be going elsewhere once my renewal is up.
