You’d never know from the dark windows outside, but it’s a proper Greek taverna inside! My parents and I stopped in for lunch yesterday — starting off our 2016 with gyros and football. :) We ordered the fried zucchini as a starter, and each got the gyro sandwich. I don’t think I’d get the zucchini again, as the breading basically fell off each piece, leaving you with unflavored wet zucchini. However, we had way more success with the gyros. The meat was just delicious, and was complemented by the tomatoes and lettuce and thick, creamy tatziki sauce. My parents got fries for their side and they were good and came in huge portions! Yum. My side was an enormous Greek salad. The tomatoes, olives, cukes, etc were good, although the salad was coated in so much feta cheese you really couldn’t argue it was any healthier than the fries. I do like their pink dressing, though. Mmmmm. So go! Get the gyro. Get the fries. Enjoy yourself. :)

This is a slight technicality because I just had lunch at the new Vero Beach location near the main post office building. I guess it is part of the K-Mart Plaza. Nevertheless, no matter what location you are closest to you must try it. Vero Beach has lacked in its authentic cuisine options and this restaurant is a step in the right direction. When I walked in the door I was under the impression that I was supposed to order at the counter, then sit down. Not the case; the main counter, behind which all the cooking is done, is there for take out. Great! All I had to do is sit down and wait for a waitress. Well, she came very quickly and she was very knowledgeable about the menu. Also, our waitress was attentive to the needs of my wife and me. In fact, I watched and listened to the other staff and everyone seemed to be working together in an effective manner. No one was without. On to the food: The menu is quite extensive. There you will find a large selection of traditional Greek appetizers and entrees, all the way to a more traditional American fare like hamburgers. I had trouble trying to decide what I wanted to eat. I ended up keeping it «safe» by ordering the standard gyro. I quickly realized, while watching dishes go by and catching a whiff of mouthwatering molecules each time, it didn’t matter what I ordered. I concluded that anything I wanted to try would be to my liking. Because the gyro that I had was off of the charts delicious, I can only speak to that; well, I can talk about the salad and fries as well. The gyro was HUGE and I just knew it was made with the best, most fresh, ingredients available. From the lettuce and tzatziki sauce, to the chopped onion and tomato, this thing was awe inspiring. I sat there with this gigantic gyro crammed in my mouth while attempting a smile at the same time. I had gyro all over my face and I didn’t care. I didn’t even take the time to wipe my mouth in fear that I might, somehow, miss something. Or, someone might see how much pleasure I was taking in devouring this gyro that they might want it for his or her self. I’m sure I looked much like a dog eating hurriedly over a bowl of steak. So, yes, the gyro was great. But wait, I did have a salad and fries; I’ll make it fast. The salad was on my table in less than 30 seconds after ordering. The lettuce exploded with every bite and the dressing was delicious. I cannot stress how fast our waitress worked and how fresh the lettuce was. The fries may as well have been(insert addictive drug). I couldn’t stop eating them with there perfect crunch and lack of grease. I think they were made by «the fry guy»… or «the fry God» perhaps. So, you get the point there too. Go to Spiro’s Taverna and give it a try. If you are disappointed then I think you should give up the whole eating thing. As for me, I’ll be back with reinforcements this week.
