Had a double bacon cheese burger, it was very bland and the burger patties were very thin, too much special sauce which was also bland, fries were ok, very plain. All still edible and filling, just not as enjoyable as I expected for $ 10.

The fish in the fish n’ chips is great! Don’t leave without getting it. The fries and garlic bread that come with it are just okay. The coleslaw is really good– not too heavy. I had the navy bean soup as well. I highly recommend it. Everything on the menu is really inexpensive in comparison to other places: $ 3 cup of soup, $ 5 sandwiches, $ 8 fish n’ chips, etc. Fun little hole in the wall place with nice staff and interesting decorations.

Great staff. it’s a little run down hole in the wall, but better than average cod. if deep fried isn’t your thing, move on… if it is, then this is The spot to stop in.

Operating Instructions: Walk in, sidle around the crowd of locals sitting at the tables. Accept some sassy attitude and place your order. Ignore all other items. Your only option is to decide how many pieces of fish you want in your fish and chips. I once tried to order the advertised halibut and chips, and the cashier/chef/waitress said, «you don’t want to do that.» Don’t argue. Fish and chips to go, please. Your order will come quickly. Cod, fries, cole slaw and Texas toast. Grab that styrofoam tray full of goodness and hustle down the street to the Pourhouse(see related review). Grab a table outside and order a pint. Then sip, eat and admire the view. If you look toward the Boat Haven, chances are you’ll spot a bald eagle on the cell tower at the end of the breakwater. After polishing off the best fish and chips you’ve ever had, treat yourself to another pint. It’s the best way to waste an afternoon that humankind has ever devised.

Been here a few times now. This is one of those little out of the way hard to find places, but you’re glad you did. It’s wildly popular for the fish and chips, but I like the burgers. No ambiance and I guess it maybe even looks a little bit run down, but the food is first rate. I guess those are the reasons I like it so much!

I have never had such amazing fish and chips. Ever. We were recommended to try this place when were visiting Port Townsend by a local and we were happy to wait out the«less than thrilled» server and lack of sitting for this experience. I ordered the three piece cod and chips and I didn’t even need to use tartar sauce to eat them that’s how great they were. It just melted in your mouth. We are talking huge portions of food and texas toast, hallelujah! I also ordered a banana milkshake which was… OK a lot of their shakes use syrup. I would have much preferred the marshmallow shake but wasn’t thrilled to have just a syrup base and not have any marshmallows sauce in it. That’s just me. Worth a stop. If I didn’t live two hours away, I would surely be back by now.

Wow. A gem disguised as a hole-in-the-wall dive. Went for breakfast and, while simple, was wonderful! Best poached eggs, good hash browns, very friendly staff. And so very reasonable; for two, came to a little over $ 14. We will be back. Want to try their fish ‘n chips and a shake!

Just returned from having fish and chips here. Loved it. 3 pc cod with fries, coleslaw and homemade tartar sauce and garlic toast for under $ 10. The place does have character. Reminds me of some of the road houses we’ve stopped at in the 50’s and 60’s. Very small but there is seating outside along the water also. Unless it is an emergency, do NOT use the restrooms. Really bad and smelly. Don’t know if they are affiliated with the Sea J or the port, but bad We will go back

I had my lunch a few days ago and the fish wasn’t as good as it has been. The fries were dry. The shakes are amazing! The restaurant is very small and hard to find space in. There was only one waitress and one cook. It took 20 min just to get 2 bowls of clam chowder(which is very tasty,) and a 4&2 piece of fish & chips. There is a variety of shakes and some are off the menu. I had the cherry lime and it turned out better than I expected. I also ordered a water that the 2 person staff forgot. All in all it was ok.

I had the fish & chips and a shake. Service was good, friendly, quick. The fish was fresh, crispy– just right. The shake is served in a tall glass plus the stainless steel container it was made in– enough for 2 people, if you are the sharing type!

Sea J’s. It’s known for its«fish and chips». That’s it… nothing else. It ain’t purrty and Mr. Clean might not be so forgiving but it has really good fish and chips and what I would refer to as small town, down to earth service. I don’t know what people expect when told it’s a «dive». A «dive» is a dive no matter how you look at it. Yes, it’s gonna smell like Crisco because they sell what… FRIED fish and chips. You’re right, heart attack city because it’s what again… Fried fish. You wouldn’t go to a place that’s know for it’s fish and chips and expect to eat something else that would be amazing… you don’t go to a pizza place and order a steak and expect it to be exceptional. Just not gonna happen. I ate breakfast at Sea J’s and I wasn’t impressed — just know I won’t eat breakfast there again. But, the fish and chips, I’ll be back every time the craving strikes.

Very small place and a rather dive but, the fish was good and service too. You just go in and sit, tell them what you want and it appears. No frills and no thrills. Lol yes we would go back.

Breaking it down by the numbers; Fish: B+ Chips: C Clam Chowder: F Atmosphere: D– Service: D– This quote sort of sums up our experience: «The clam chowder was what you might expect in prison.» We will not return and I would suggest any other place in town.

Well, where to begin? We nearly walked out, but decided to stay. And we are all glad we did. This place is most definitely a dive, but it was filled with locals. The décor is definitely very shabby. The staff are very friendly, but might appear to be a bit rude as part of their schtick. There were probably 7 or 8 plaques on the wall displaying their«Best fish and chips» awards. All of us had the fish and chips. When they came, the fish pieces were a nice size. The waitress told us that there were two more pieces coming since some of ours were stuck together in the frying process. Both the fish and the chips were perfect. Crisp, nicely seasoned, not oily or greasy. The iced tea was made in house and served out of a glass mayo jar — not classy, but really good(it is a dive remember). They have about 30 – 40 different milkshake flavored on the menu and if all of them are as good as the blackberry shake my wife had — WOW! It was amazing. It was made using fresh berries(actually had some seeds in it. If you are looking for a place with great food and delicious shakes this is your spot, but if you are looking for a nice quaint place to eat with your family maybe you can order to go and eat by the waterfront. I say, be brave and give it a try.

I’ve only ever come here for their extensive selection of milkshakes. I see that it is better known for fish ‘n chips, but the shake is enough of a reason for me. They are incredibly sweet, and thick, and come in only one size. Try one, try them all. If you have a sweet tooth left in your skull after one of their shakes, you’ll be begging for a dentist ;).

Absolute dive with great food and reasonable prices. Great locals place. Very friendly service and the food was fresh. I was so impressed when ordering a 2 piece fish and chips and they felt the pieces were small and brought out another basket full of fish! Great place!

The best part was that they had outdoor seating that allowed us to avoid the stench of burned Crisco. All non-burgers were deep fat fried. A heart attack factory.

Best greasy spoon ever! every thing that I had here is very good. My favorite thing about it is the low key dumpy atmosphere. I’m not sure why I like it so much, I’m a sucker for any super classy spendy place, maybe it’s ‘cuse I grew up coming here but I’m just a fan of this creepy dumpy place with awesome food!

One weekend we just decided to head out on a road trip. We ended up in Port Townsend and at the local brewery sharing the same name. The brewery doesn’t serve food and we were very hungry. The lady working the tasting room highly suggested Sea J’s Café just down the road. From the outside or inside it doesn’t look like much. Seating is limited, it’s small joint. However the food is definitely the star attraction. My GF had the fish and chips and it was excellent. I had the bacon cheeseburger with crinkle cut(best!) fries. Sea J’s is most certainly a local dive, if you didn’t know to look for it you would never find it. Not well signed, and off the beaten path of most visitors to Port Townsend. Next time in town, we are stopping here for lunch without a doubt!
