Terrible! I buy a cheeseburger and it always has to be pointed out to me when using a credit card to sign the slip and fill in the "tip" portion.
Guy at the counter is rude and twice out of 5 times I didn't get what I asked for on the burger. I told him the following time and no comment.
Every time..."tip is up here". They all ask for "tips" and I'm done with this place.

No… just no. Staff is rude and dismissive, restaurant is dirty, Chicago Dogs are a DISGRACE!!! They put on too much soggy relish, not enough onion, no celery salt… I could go on but I don’t think I need to. I tried this place when I was a kid and was unimpressed. Figured I would give them another shot 15 years later. For the love of God I don’t know HOW this place is still in business. Seriously… to the regulars who are locals… if you want a decent Chicago Dog, head to 3 Greeks. They are WAY friendlier and the food is infinitely better.

This place has by far the worst and most rude workers I have ever witnessed. When I entered I noticed about 70% of the front dining area was being used for storing clothes. It was kinda strange but I didn’t give it a second thought since it really has nothing to do with the service or food. Perhaps they have just been at this location for a while and can get away with it right? I ordered a Chicago dog and felt like I accomplished something just by getting my order in since the three of the workers(Two seem two be managers) had to be asked repeatedly if they can take my order yet. They were talking about sports and thought it was just rude for a customer to walk in during the conversation I suppose. I got my order and saw it was wrapped wrong(Yes, that is possible when it is a Chicago dog and fries) but it didn’t get to me. What got to me was when I opened the bag and saw they had poured(Yes, POURED) pickle juice all over the hot dog and the bun was dripping it everywhere! It must had been at least 5 ounces and the bottom of the bag was soaking and dripping it all over my car. It was too soggy to eat so i had to throw it out and just eat the hot dog! The fries were not salted and I thought that was odd since I did not request it. Pretty much, this place sucks and is very disappointing. I have had better Chicago dogs in Los Angeles and that’s pathetic.

This place is exactly what you want in a HotDog joint! It’s simple and straight forward. The dogs are always good and the gentleman that runs it is a really really nice guy. It’s not pricey either, which is always a plus.

My son and I went there on a Friday night. It was around 7:10. I ordered a hamburger which seemed to irritate the older gentleman who probably was the owner. My son got a hot dog. When we decided to eat there, this seemed to irritate him even more. A few minutes later, I could tell they were getting ready to close. After more than a few hard stares, I threw my below average burger away and had my son take his hot dog with him. I never go back there, but I do go next door for some decent Chinese food.

My favorite place in NWI for a Chicago Dog. Andy’s has been a staple in Portage for as long as I can remember. Great guy, usually putting in many hours at his business, has never been rude or hard to talk to.

I give it 1 star because I can’t give it 0 stars. The place is dirty, the guy is a jerk and doesn’t care if you eat there or not. Grubby clothes and filthy floor round out the reasons why I refuse to step foot into the place anymore. Used to be a nice hot dog joint, and it is really close to my home. Too bad they don’t clean it once in a while.

Simple place, simple food — done to perfection. Brought a bunch of kids, tried all varieties of dogs and beef sandwiches. Everything was great. The fries rocked. Super friendly guy working the cash register(maybe the owner?) gave the kids quarters to play the pinball machine and video games while they waited. Can’t go wrong here!

One Saturday my travels took me to Northwest Indiana, once I completed my business in the city of Portage I was on my way back to Illinois. But before I left I decided to take a look around town and see if there were any interesting local businesses to stop at. In driving down Central Avenue I noticed a place called«Andy’s Red Hots» and with it being right around lunch time I decided to stop in and give it a try. Walking in I noticed an arcade machine, a pinball machine and a lot of Vienna Beef vendor signage. After looking over the menu I decided to try the two hot dog special which includes fries. I placed my order, tried a quick game of pinball and a few minutes later the food was ready. The hot dogs came on soft classic Chicago style poppy seed buns. There was a reasonably thick pickle spear that wasn’t too sour on top. Both the onions and the tomato were diced on top of the hot dog. Neon green relish was present as was a good amount of mustard. The sausage itself was skinless and properly steamed. I didn’t detect any celery salt on the dog, but there was perhaps one thing a lot odd and that was the sport peppers. One of the sport peppers I received was gigantic and nearly half the length of the hot dog itself and incredibly thick. While this is only a minor nitpick, I figured it was worth mentioning. So how did the hot dog taste? Quite frankly it was excellent and a fantastic example of a Chicago style hot dog. The fries included with the meal were a little on the bland side. These were thin shoelace style fries, they could have used a bit more salt. Overall I was very impressed with the quality of the food, price and atmosphere of Andy’s Red Hots. I’m going to award this place a full five stars and a recommendation. Excellent food at an excellent price.

This place has gone downhill really really bad. I still enjoy the occasional dog and fry from Andy’s, but it is nowhere near as good as it used to be back in 2003.

Walked in, ordered a gyros platter onion only to go. Got home and found that I had gotten the regular platter with sauce dripping off the pitas. I have an allergy to cucumbers, but I love gyros, so I took it back. «Andy” – if that’s the bald podunk who runs the show – told me to «Eat around it» and he’s «Not wasting $ 7.» I left my toxic platter on the counter and will never return.

The hot dogs are good., but I think the fries could be better(a little dry). The other items I’ve tried were good as well. They do have a couple cool old arcade games and a real pinball machine so that’s cool. My son never saw a real pinball machine before. The people there were really nice too. I usually call ahead and my order is usually ready when I get there(10 mins.). Nice quick lunch or dinner place.

I’ve been going to this place forever, so I may be a bit biased, but it’s a great, quick place to eat. Serving the typical«Hot dog restaurant» type foods, you can really get food for a bargain here. For a little over three dollars, you can get yourself an order of fries and two dogs with any basic condiments(the only things not covered by this are chili and cheese, so this means that you can get two fully loaded Chicago Dogs and an order of fries for dirt cheap). Vienna Beef hot dogs, so they’re quality stuff of course. Aside from the great dogs, you can get a menagerie of other classic foods including gyros, hamburgers, pizza pockets, and more. The inside of the establishment is homey, don’t expect anything special, chairs and tables, a few old-school arcade machines, a kitschy mural of hot dogs and hamburgers making themselves covers an entire wall and posters of the food they feature covers the other. Overall, it’s a great place to eat if you’re looking for simple food or an authentic Chicago dog for a very cheap price.
