This used to be one of my favorite casual restaurants in the area. They had great home cooked meals, and I really loved their house salad: lettuce, green olives, and a lemony, garlicky oil and vinegar dressing. A few months ago, my daughter and I ordered a stuffed shrimp special and it was just disgusting. The«crab stuffing» was really crab substitute. Then last week we went there for steak fingers. They just tasted greasy, and the salad was soggy and tasteless. So sad that one of our favorites has gone downhill so fast.

Really good food today! Chicken fried steak(lunch specials even on Sunday!) and daily special — pan grilled pork chop with 3 fantastic grilled shrimp. First time at restaurant, but will go back and recommend! Service spot on as well !

Terrible steak… pan fried! The waitress said they fried it in a pan because they did not want to have to clean the grill. Also, I had a gift card to spend so I asked to purchase a whole cheese cake to take home. I was told NO. We won’t sell you a whole one, only by the slice. So I said OK, I’ll buy 6 slices. I was told NO. They were only allowed to sell me 2 slices per visit… Communistic !?

I just had the best chicken fried steak, it was all meat from end to end, not overly breaded like other restaurants make theirs! And the taste was fantastic, I HIGHLYRECOMMENDIT! It come’s in three different sizes, and believe me, eat size is way too much to finish without having to take it home!

Started with fried pickles and let me tell you they are thick and so good! Chicken fried steaks are the best around.

Started off our meal with the boudin balls today, which are ordered individually and were served with a yummy creamy cilantro dressing. They were large and tasted great, but at $ 2 each, it’s a little bit like highway robbery for deep-fried dirty rice! I ordered the small sirloin steak with the mashed potatoes and a house salad. As per our waitress, the house salad consists of greens, cherry tomatoes sliced in half, garlic, and olives. I assumed she meant black olives since she said it was like a Greek salad, but they were green… Which I thought was a little weird, but it wasn’t bad. Had I known, I would have ordered the regular salad with the dressing that came with the boudin balls. The menu indicated it was my choice to have my steak grilled on an open flame or seared on flat top grill. Being a former Outback server, I’m a fan of the latter, but our waitress didn’t ask which I wanted, which I completely forgot about until it arrived with grill marks. My steak was also an odd shape(much thicker on one end and tapering off to nothingness on the other), so the thick section was cooked to a beautiful medium, leaving the other third a drier, grayish well done. My mashed potatoes were also covered with gravy even though I asked for the gravy on the side.(Sigh.) The dude ordered the cfs with fried okra, mashed potatoes, and a tossed salad with honey mustard dressing. He was happy with everything he ordered and especially like the fried okra. The kiddo ordered chicken fingers with fries with a shirley temple. He downed the drink in about 2 minutes and the waitress then informed us that he only gets one refill.(Seriously, Hofbrau? It’s just sprite with a splash of grenadine. And for $ 2.99!) We ordered a glass of water for him and asked for her to bring the second refill with the meal. He didn’t complain about the chicken tenders, so I’m guessing they were decent, but I did steal a fry and I wasn’t really impressed. Seeing as he left almost all of them, I’m guessing he wasn’t, either. I didn’t mind reminding the waitress about the refill, but I didn’t love that I had to remind her again, AND the dude and I were both completely finished with our meals before she finally brought it. I know what it’s like to be in the weeds as a server, but she wasn’t really rushing around whenever we did see her. It then took a while to get out heck and then again to run the credit card and bring the receipts. While these issues certainly won’t keep us from returning, we won’t necessarily be in a hurry to do so.

Food was excellent! Didn’t have steaks though. I had pork. My husband always gets the chicken friend steal, but is always disappointed no matter where we go. I loved it and is a fine treat when we go. If you live Texas cuisine, visit Hofbrau.

The atmosphere is nice, but they allow smoking inside! Yuck! Our server seemed new and was not very organized. I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp with the house salad. I love the olive based dressing they use. If they would cut the smoking, I would have given 4 stars.

We took a large family group for a Saturday afternoon dinner and were quite pleased. It is pricey so just be prepared! We ordered the boudin balls appetizer and everyone loved them! What an interesting treat! I thought I ordered a chicken fried steak but I received a chicken fried chicken instead, however it was amazing and the cream gravy was perfect! The burgers are superb and the steaks were very good. My daughter ordered the quail and was surprised that it was fried into a tiny ball, lol. Expecting it to be sautéed or grilled, oh well! Overall, we enjoyed a lovely Texas style family dinner together and that was the best part!

This place is a complete rip off. Went there for a steak but you get no sides with your steak. Who goes to a restaurant and orders just a piece of meat and nothing else? I was not going to pay $ 3.99 for a baked potato. Not that I couldn’t afford it, but it’s the principle of the matter. Won’t come back. Food here was never great anyway.

The search for chicken fried chicken may be over. Hot, crispy, good cream gravy. Even came out pretty quick. Let’s see what else. Great service, clean, did I say great service? I need to say that again. If I could pick at one thing, it is a bit loud. I would rather have that than dirty smelly carpet. I had the chicken fried steak and brown gravy. Excellent. We have been trying to find a place for the wife to get good chicken fried chicken since our place for chicken fried chicken closed. She found it. We will be back very soon.

Good solid CFS, with decent service. The gravy is good, but not great. All in all above place to eat.

It’s not amazing, its not great, just good. Never had a problem, just overpriced for what you get. This is the best dining you are going to find in Porter, though, and they know that. The rolls with the cinnamon butter are super yum, though.

My fiancé and I are new to the Porter area, so we are always looking for good places to eat. We decided to give this place a try the other night. Ehh, it was«OK». Nothing special. The country-style décor is cool. I was immediately disappointed upon seating because it took at least five minutes for a server to come to our table, or even acknowledge that we were even there. It didn’t appear to be busy, so that was irritating. Aside from that, the service was decent. Hot rolls and cinnamon butter served with our drinks… very good! The salad seemed to be old and wilted. I’ve had better salad. I had the regular chicken fried steak. It was hot and tasty. It wasn’t amazing like some people have said. I’ll seek a better chicken fried steak elsewhere. My fiancé had the chicken tenders. She said they were good. Overall, not horrible. However, we won’t be regular customers. Give it a try if you’re looking for a local, «home style» meal.

I had the Texas Beef Dip and all I can say is wow! In my opinion this is what a Philly cheesesteak should taste like. I was recently in Philadelphia and this was better than the cheesesteak at the famous Geno’s. I have yet to have something bad here. If you’ve never been, give it a try.

They just changed their fried shrimp, it was good enough that I had to write a review! Other favorites are the Philly cheesesteak(that’s not what they call it, I can’t remember their name) but it’s SO good! Great rolls, awesome chicken fried chicken!

Love their chicken fried chicken with gravy. Last time I was here my son ordered CFC from lunch menu and I from the diner, since I was very hungry, they were exactly the same size. So order the lunch portion and save a couple of $. The odd thing was I mentioned to the waitress and. she brushed it off not even sugesting to match the price. Other than that service. was good and the food was great. Today Jeanine took care of us. She is great.

I had lunch here with some clients and ordered the BBQ combo. The food was good and the service was excellent. My clients also said there food was excellent and judging from the way the devoured it, it must have been tasty. The BBQ was not anything near world class so don’t expect it to be. All in all though, it’s a solid choice.

Hofbrau use to be good. I was highly disappointed with the service. It took my family and i 20 mins before the server even took our drink order, and don’t even get me started with the rest of my experience.

This is not German food y’all. No roots to Munchen. No beersteins and major disappointment on my end on that aspect. Hofbrau? Pfft. ‘Nolan Ryan Steaks’ might be a better name for the joint as a giant size cardboard cut out greets you on the way in. His name littered the menu too. Hey, my CFS was decent and provided a second meal. I would go back if Sonic was too packed and I am in the area. If you want down home country yums. Yes. Expecting something else closer to actual German food? No.
