Cute place, wonderful staff, enjoyed my salad. The little shop attached to it was very cute as well

Pros: Cute atmosphere and gift shop. Good service. Cons: The food. It was average to subpar. They had a seasonal pumpkin soup that was good, but everything else was lacking. Stale croissant. Miracle Whip base for their chicken salad(ick!) and not much flavor. The coconut cake tasted like a box mix and left a filmy chemical aftertaste in my mouth. Eeewww! I can make better food at home.

I travel to Portland for business from time to time. This is my favorite spot for lunch. Food is good and serves is friendly, just wish they were open for dinner as well. Save room for their cakes if you can, they are delicious but made daily and once they are out of a certain kind that’s it for the day. Not much in that area and I enjoy a good meal so I was glad to find them.

I met several members of out-of-town family for lunch here on a Saturday. All 6 of us ordered something different and no one was disappointed! Everything turned out great from the appetizers through the desserts. Great sandwiches, burgers, entrees, sides, and cakes. I particularly enjoyed the lobster bisque. The location is interesting too – great atmosphere, nicely decorated, cool converted old house. The dining room is tucked in the back surrounded by levels and rooms of unique gift shop items.

Try the fried pickles but, bring your own ranch dipping sauce. Breakfast is the best and the daily choices of the meat + 3 are hard to beat. I’m not a hamburger fan but I often hear others rave about theirs. 5 Chef’s is the best in Portland and always inviting, clean and affordable. Just good southern comfort food.

Used to be the best place in Portland for breakfast, but now you might as well go to mcdonalds down the street. The customer service is horrid. When calling in an order you usually get a young girl who clearly wants to be somewhere else. Not so much as a thank you. Upon arriving, plan to wait before anyone even acknowledges you, and then wait again for them to find someone who can work the register. The food isn’t nearly as good as it once was either. With so few nice places to eat in Portland, its a shame this place is now one to avoid.

Used to be my favorite place to eat. Not sure what is going on. The last three times we have been there things have been less than par. Not sure if they have changed cooks/suppliers but it is lacking. The atmosphere is outstanding and I love the gift shop.

I am very disappointed at this place. I have probably eaten here a dozen times. It is a novelty when going through Portland. It is the most«upscale» place in town to eat, and that is sad. They do a few things well. Breakfast — Great with a good selection and fresh to order. The Gift Shop is also good with many items to choose from if you are a lady. Not many items men would want in this gift shop. I am a little less enthusiastic about lunch, but they do have some good fresh salads, soups and sandwiches. The baked goods are good, but no need to drive all the way to Portland to get them. You can find better. Now for dinner what you get is canned and frozen items. It seems like after lunch the cut off some kind of switch and stop serving the fresh food and shift to fried frozen stuff with canned veggies. Hello, the fresh food is what tastes best. They have a good crowd for Breakfast and Lunch; dinner is not always as big of a hit. The hours are silly too. I think they are now only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday, but they change so much it is hard to tell.

5 Chefs Restaurant & Occasions Gift Shop is such a gem for Sumner County just off the Hwy 109&52 intersection in Portland. It is located in the historic Gossett House which is beautifully decorated from room to room with a spectacular gift selection. The is a great place for special occasions or an everyday treat. The gorgeous cakes are out of this world! You have to check out this charming place!

The food is so-so. The building is a cute old house and makes it fun to bring family or visiting friends. There are so very few options in Portland. They have a small gift area in the front along with some great looking desserts. While at my visit two of the waitstaff were arguing in front of the dinning room. Very unprofessional. I’m sure this was just an isolated event, but no managers stepped in to correct the problem.

Had one of the meat and three meals, which was just average. Mashed potatoes were good but talapia was obviously frozen and everything else was bland. My other table mates ordered burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Their meals looked better than mine. Sweet tea was good, sodas are in plastic bottles. Enviroment was quaint and nicely decorated. There are very nice looking deserts out front, but I did not partake in those. Think the place is open for breakfast and lunch. Prices very reasonable, easy to eat for $ 10 a person.
