I followed Scot Alexander to Ad Astra from Modern Man, where I first had my hair cut by him. Without question, it was the best haircut I ever received. I was so impressed with his attention to detail that I knew I needed to return to him regardless of where he was. I would trust him with my family’s hair any day. Also, his pricing is very reasonable, and well below what he could be charging(don’t tell him that, haha). Can’t recommend him enough. As for the salon itself, it’s a beautiful converted house, which actually works to make it a little more welcoming than most salons. A complimentary beverage was a nice touch.

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Michael Cronin for many years. His work is always current, fresh and gorgeous. I’ve never stuck this long to any stylist ever. Heck, my relationship with him is probably the most significant one in my life.

Doug Ybanez has spoiled me for other hairstylists. When he moved down Belmont from Hair to Ad Astra earlier this year, there was no question I would follow.(Bonus that it’s next to one of my favorite watering holes, Conquistador!) Ad Astra is located in a century-old house on Belmont; stately on the outside and decorated in «ornate-modern-fabulous» style inside, a feast for the eyes. Giant mirrors in luxurious frames are the focal point in many of the rooms and the walls are painted in dark earthy tones. The space is also a gallery of sorts, featuring artwork, jewelry and books by some of their clients. Upon arrival, someone is always right there to greet you, make sure you are comfortable, and offer you tea. There are around 9 stylists who work staggered hours, as well as an esthetician and a massage therapist, whose stations occupy various rooms of the house on two floors. Stop by, check it out, browse some local art and pick up a few products, make an appointment with Doug. You will love Ad Astra.
