Honestly, some of the best wine I’ve had locally. SUPER fantastic. I’m not one for blends often, but the wine maker did a superb job creating a blend that is drinkable and full bodied, on top of there solid varietal selection. Go there. Support them, they deserve it!

Visited the Alchemy Wine Productions tasting room this weekend with friends, and was pleased to find such a gem in SE Portland. Nic was eager to see us, and very friendly, not overwhelming with information, but peppering discussion with just enough story and technical detail to make the tasting memorable. Focusing on Rhôné varietals, the Viognier and Syrah were my favorites. Admirable venture into budget-friendly Pinot Noir with their Class Act label really makes for an excellent story and charitable cause. Highly recommend stopping in – especially while it’s cold to give Nic a reason to turn the heat up! — and trying yet another fantastic addition to the Portland urban wine scene.

This place is making great wine! Definitely worth a stop! Nick and his wife are making some good Pinot Noir and Kick Ass Syrah and Viognier. It’s a little hard to find the first time, but definitely worth it!

I first heard of Alchemy Wine when I was shopping in West Linn’s Market of Choice and picked up a bottle of their Class Act Pinot Noir. I actually liked it so much that I just ordered a case of it for my wedding! After realizing that they have a tasting room/urban winery in SE, my fiancé and I decided to check it out. What we thought would be a quick stop, ended up turning into about 2 hours of chatting it up with Nic the owner and his brother while drinking some really, really great wine. The Edwin Dyer Syrah is really incredible and their Rose was actually my favorite. I love talking wine with people who are so passionate about it… but don’t feel like they need to make it uncomfortable and stuffy. Go check this place out!

There are so many reasons why Alchemy is great. 1. The wine — we own cases and cases of their wines.(Class Act Pinot Noir, Edwin Dyer Syrah, Edwin Dyer Viognier) 2. The tasting room location — SE Portland, an urban setting 3. The owners — Nic & Gracey Donahue I could go on and on about their wine… they have both ‘daily drinkers’ and library wines. I highly recommend going to the tasting room because you can try them all before you buy. Also, the tasting room is fun. It’s a very cool Portland like atmosphere with the big garage rolling door. You can see where they make their wine and enjoy great company and conversation. My husband and I have been to many winers and keep a wine cellar — so what if we have too much and keep it in the cool, unused, downstairs shower;). Another great thing about this tasting room is that you can do it year round. We all know that OR has tons of great wineries but seriously, if you don’t feel like driving an hour to the hills, you can taste in downtown Portland. It’s great in summer or on a rainy day.

I just spent Saturday visiting Urban Wineries and am SO excited about this movement! Yes — we who live in Oregon are blessed to be surrounded by vineyards and wineries about an hour away, but we are doubly lucky that there are wine makers doin’ business in an industrial section of SE Portland! It makes me happy inside… Alchemy Wine Productions was my favorite stop of the day. There’s a few reasons why I love this place:’ — The wine was stellar. They have two lines — a reserve that they named after their new baby(too cute) and what they call«Class Act» — which is an affordable brand that makes good, local wine accessible to everyone. I tried and bought one of the Class Act Pinot Noirs, which I’m excited to open up and share with some friends — especially because this delicious commodity only cost me $ 15! — They wave the price of tasting with purchase of bottle. I LOVE it when wineries do this — it encourages the purchaser to go home with something and keeps everything affordable. — Nic, one of the owners I met, was just a charming super engageable guy. I love chatting with business owners who are passionate about what they do and are good at it too. — The space is great — big, open, charming, kinda rustic and modern at the same time. You won’t be sorry you stopped in!

The concept of the Urban Winery is beginning to gain a strong foothold in Portland(yay!). Alchemy happens to be one of the few wineries in city limits and it’s totally worth checking out. Nick(the vintner) is happy to be in Portland after moving from California and incredibly passionate about making wine here. I stopped in after work on a Sunday and as not many people know about them yet, I had the pleasure of being the only one there. It’s a fun experience to have a one on one conversation with someone who is really excited about his wine. Their production is small, but incredibly«user friendly», They have an easy to drink Pinot and a Syrah that’s bold and earthy. Both are delicious, and I can’t wait to see what else they come up with.(They’re bottling a rose of pinot and a viognier soon). If you’re excited about the upcoming Urban wine scene, definitely go and see what they have to offer. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

I stopped in to check on Owners Nic and Gracey Donahue and see about making some wine. Nic is super busy preparing wine to be barreled and later bottled. This is a new business here in Portland. Nic hails from California where he grew up with an appreciation for the finer things, wine being his favorite pass time. This isn’t really the place to go right now, but if you check out Alchemy Wine Productions on Facebook you can keep up with the latest news and when to expect Nic’s Syrah and Pinot Noir to be released. One things for sure when his next batch is available I already have a bottle on reserve! :-)
