Whaaaaaat what? Nobody ever saw fit to give much love to the erstwhile Apollo College – Portland campus? We need to change this egregious oversight — pronto! It was only through the auspices of Unilocal search, as well as the anonymous do-​gooder who posted Apollo’s Unilocal Portland account, presumably BEFORE they disappeared gone (BUT NOT FORGOTTEN!) ca. 2009 that I was able to find this page…
I am in no way affiliated w/​Apollo College, as either a (former) student, alumni, staff or faculty member. Yet Apollo lives on in my heart. Oh yes, it lives on, and not only for me… I’m quite certain their once-​ubiquitous jingle will live on in the dreams of many of you out there…
The subliminal messages of those ads left an indelible stamp on my soul. The editing of those ads! The production values! Those lyrics, that will live on, ad absurdum through the ages: «Learn how far your mind will take youuuuuuu, with Apollo College…»
The spontaneous, utterly rapturous effect of those ads and their subliminal one-​two punches, was captured for posterity, in this amateur vid… thank GOD the random cackler in the back-​drop had the presence of mind to hit «record» on his cell phone…
It is no exaggeration to say that even hearing the first few bars from the Apollo jingles leaves me in fits and convulsions, much like the genius responsible for that clip. No, in case you’re wondering, that wasn’t MY handiwork, nor that of anyone else I knew. Without question, I share his enthusiasm for that little jingle, and— presumably— his overall savoir faire for life…
That jingle was so singular, so catchy, so unfathomably awesome, that Carrington College, the outfit who «bought out/​took over» Apollo, were clearly inspired, as evidenced by the jingle THEY started using in their adverts, immediately after the buy-​out…
I have worked with many Apollo students and grads in many different healthcare settings, and I say without hesitation they are as devoted a group of single moms as you’ll ever find to their art, their craft, their industry, their profession. Thanks, Apollo, for all the great memories… and helping all those struggling moms literally learn how far their minds can take them, oh yes…
