The worst Thai restaurant I have ever been to. Just like the majority of Unilocal reviewers, I stumbled on this restaurant after waiting in line at Pok Pok for ages and my friends and I decided to leave and try the place across the street. It’s very unassuming inside and there aren’t many seats. When we got inside, the only place available to sit was at the bar. In the meantime, we let the waiter know that we were waiting to sit at a table. Having hiked the Multnomah Falls earlier, we were naturally starving. My friend asked the gentleman at the counter(who looked like the owner) if we could order appetizers first before moving to the table. This man gave her a look of disdain, put his hand up in front of her as if to say stop, and told her that in fact the kitchen was backed up so she should just wait until later to order. We looked at each other horrified, given that the average rating of this place was 4 stars. Then, after moving to the table and ordering food, they got everything wrong. We ordered three hot teas that never came out until we asked them three times. Then our three different dishes came out so staggeringly slow that by the time my friend’s food came, I was almost done eating. I ordered the Pad Gai, and I was very much looking forward to the cabbage. Instead, it came with sautéed lettuce. Disgusting. When I gently pointed it out to the server, she brought out the menu indignant and said no see, it comes with lettuce. Well it turns out the menu does say cabbage but the point was, she didn’t care to rectify it. My point was, lettuce shouldn’t be sautéed. Yuck. My friend who got her food last ended up with spicy curry when she ordered mild and the eggplant slices were raw. The table next to us were also complaining in French(I speak French) that their food was way too spicy and they ordered mild as well. Honestly, it was such a terrible experience hat we considered tipping 0%. And I will make it my personal mission to make sure diners know exactly what they are getting with this place. Go elsewhere!

A friend and I came here right after sumitting Mt. St. Helen’s on a rainy, frigid day. We were ravenous. Everything we ate tasted like the greatest food on earth. This is a pretty cozy place with very attentive service, good food, and a quirky bathroom with a water heater in it. Appethaizing sells itself as a comfy, unassuming Thai place. It is exactly that.

Great curry place!!! A little small but cozy. I didn’t try the pad Thai but my friend ordered it and it looked delicious. The evil jungle noodles looked really good too. I would definitely eat there again!

What can we say. We came here out of frustration from the very long line at Pok Pok. To our surprise the food was very delicious. Has a home cooking feel to it. Only recommendations is that the place seems like the only restaurant that has flies circling around the room. Service is very slow. But overall a decent alternative since it is right across the street from Pok Pok.

Came here after I saw the menu for Pok Pok, right across the street; not many vegetarian options and luckily this place has plenty of them! The food was so good and the staff was so nice. The portions are pretty big, especially considering how cheap the place is, and if you ask for spicy be prepared for SPICY. I had the soup and my friend had a tofu dish — both equally yummy. So glad Pok Pok didn’t have vegetarian options because this place nailed it with the flavor! The place doesn’t have amazing ambiance but I can’t take away a star just for that.

Quick, solid neighborhood Thai. Unfuckwithable prices for an over-saturated area. Keep these people in business, please. I can’t afford Pok Pok.

Pad tai noodles with seafood combo, tai iced tea. My world is complete! Sooo good! If you were from Thailand and your mom was making you dinner this would be the place you would go

The place across the street was closed and so decided to try this Thai restaurant and so glad I did. Ordered the drunken noodles and was a bit :(to see the less quantity. But the awesome quality totally made up for it. Drunken noodles with chicken plus chilli oil, chilli paste and vinegar with chillies… Totally made my night! Everyone around me seemed to have really enjoyed the food as well. Highly recommend this place!

One word. Soy sauce. It was impossible for us first timers visiting this wonderful city to even enjoy or even finish their pad thai, a staple and signature dish of Thai cuisine. It was drenched in soy sauce which only made it ridiculously salty and worst of all, both the pad Thai and their tom yum soup was not spicy at all. The lack of any spicyness in any of their entrees just kept reminding me of this restaurants white-washed approach in order to cater to the needs of Caucasians. This was literally the most unauthentic restaurants I have EVER been to, I should have heeded the previous 1 star reviews about the obviously cheap ingredients this restaurant uses. Please. Do NOT waste your money or traveling experience at this restaurant, you’d actually be better off cooking Thai food at home off of a YouTube video than dining here.

Excellent food and service. Great prices. Too bad it is located across the street from a more popular Thai restaurant. If you don’t want to wait 2 hours at that place, walk across the street to Appethaizing.

I’ve only ever got my food to go, but it’s my favorite go-to in the neighborhood. The fresh salad rolls are great and so is the Tom Kha soup.

I must say that this place is so much better than you think it will be when you see it. It is right next to Richmond Bar and it doesn’t benefit from the aesthetic comparison. But the food was really good. We were on a little pub/dining crawl on Clinton and Division and were originally going to have a small plate at Bollywood but the line was too long so we kept walking and found this little place. We ordered Pad Khe Mao and Panag Curry both hot. Really, Really nice flavors and good heat level as well. I would definitely go back but they should strike up some sort of bargain with the bar next door so that you can have a beer with their food outside.

I’ve driven by this tiny place numerous time coming down«D» Street(if you aren’t looking for it you’ll miss it for sure!). The Cashew Nut Chicken tasted great and was well priced at 9 bucks! Also ordered the Pad Thai with Shrimp… love it! As far as spicy, if they suggest mild when you order medium, believe them… SPICY! Overall: good, authentic Thai food! Side note: if you’re looking for that adult beverage… you might want your order to go.

First of all they do not open until 430 not four. Secondly when I did get my order it was lackluster. I feel like they use very bad ingredients. It’s all right but deafly not my favorite reason there is such a low review is because they have the wrong information on here

Masamamum curry w/veggies and veggie yakisorba. First the waittress was nice and attentive. I asked for 3 and 4 scale of heat. Both items were overly sweet. My friend ordered shrimp fried rice he ate one shrimp and 2mouthfuls of rice and could not eat any more because it was too sweet. Also as is with many thai restaurants that ive been to the food portions were extremely small. We had oringinally planed to go to pok pok just across the street; but their was a 2hour wait. I really wanted to like Appethaizing the small portions and also such a small amount of vegetables in my 2 vegetarian plates and final thing how very sweet every thing was.

This use to be my favorite restaurant ever. Then I went a while back got some food to go and took a big bite of my spring role only to find rotten brown mushy cabbage inside. Which of course caused me to get food poisoning. I was so saddened and grossed out I’ve never been back. There’s so many good restaurants in Portland there’s no reason to go to this sub par one.

Idk what’s with the great thai food in Portland but their mango sticky rice was awesome after waiting for take out at Pok Pok. It was a small location but my brother found it and saw mango sticky rice and got it and it was great and had a great portion. Their sticky rice had a good amount of coconut taste to it(even though i dislike coconut) but it went well w/the mango. So dessert is definitely recommended.

This place has authentic very tasty Thai food. I tend to be picky and was hesitant to go as I was set on going to Pok Pok(across the street which is highly rated). Since I could not justify the 1.5 hour wait at Pok Pok I and 3 other colleagues decided to give aphetaizing a try. No regrets and I would come back. We got evil noodles, Tom kha(best I’ve ever had), papaya salad(yummy), drunken noodles. Two thumbs up!!!

originally planned pok pok because of 3000+ review, but wait time is 3 hours! So we went to this one nearby. Their pad thai is the best I have tried in US so far. Pumpkin curry is authentic. And NOWAITTIME.

Stopped here to get pad see ew while en route from the Oregon Coast to Seattle. In my never-ending quest for good thai food, this place didn’t disappoint. Hard to compare to the surrounding options, since this part of portland seems to have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to thai food and we didn’t have time to try it all. But nevertheless I thought it was delicious and affordable.

Dessert only: We stopped by for some mango sticky rice and was so happy with the flavors and most of all the portion! Such a steal! Definitely recommend!

Like all the other reviews, friends and I decided on this place after hearing of the whopping 3 hr wait across the street. There is a mini outdoor seating area which is super nice because there are so many people out and about. There is a huge menu and everything looks good. We ordered Pad Thai, Evil Jungle Noodle with Chicken, Glass Noodle Soup, and Tom Yum. The day we went, the service was ridiculously slow and our food arrived all at different time which sucked, but the food was flavorful and pretty good! Would go again.

This is a very small mom and pa type Thai place. Seating inside and a couple of picnic tables outside. The service was phenomenal and the food was delicious. I got the veggie red curry, spice level HOT. I was expecting it to be hotter at the highest spice level, but it really was not that hot. When I first tasted the curry, I thought it was a bit too sweet but the more I ate it, the better it tasted. It was thicker than most curries I’ve had which made it taste richer and more intense. They were very generous in the amount of vegetables given, which is much appreciated. Overall, really good curry but not the best I’ve had… I would definitely go back for the service and the food :)

Best Thai food in Portland! My favorite dish is the Pumpkin Curry, so creamy and spicy, and filled with lots of vegetables and tofu! I’ve also had a few of the noodles dishes, included the Pad Thai and the Pad Kee Mao– both full of flavor! You wouldn’t necessarily think so from looking at this place, but give it a shot! Since the inside is pretty small, I like to sit outside or get my food to go!

I feel bad because this place is honestly so underrated, especially being right across the street from Pok Pok. Not only does Appethaizing have amazing food but really good service as well for a reasonable price! Not to mention, if you ever get a chance to talk to Apple, you will see how incredibly sweet she is and she works very hard to make ends meet so please support this local business and go try some awesome food.

It’s not going to impress any Thai food or general dining aficionados but it gets the job done. Their menu has the usual standards, which they do well, but the ambiance and service are pedestrian. I highly recommend them as an affordable and decent dinner solution to underscore your planned event but it is not a destination in and of itself. When Pok Pok’s wait is too long, or your crew just needs dinner before the movie/show, this place becomes truly Appethaizing.

I originally wanted to dine at Pok Pok which was across the street and seemed to have the most traffic on Unilocal but the wait was crazy long. How convenient. another thai restaurant right across the street! Appethaizing didn’t seem so appetizing since it looked small, run down, and not a lot of people dining inside… but Unilocal led me there so I must listen. I was so glad I did! My dish was fantastic! I got the pumpkin red curry. It was super creamy, flavorful, and had quite a kick even though I ordered mild. I also sampled pad see ewe and it was so flavorful. Great place to eat!

Like many others, we only came across eating here after hearing about the 2 hour wait at Pok Pok. It was dinner time on a Saturday night and the restaurant was decently filled. They have three tables for outdoor seating, which we took advantage of. Great sized menu ranging from curry to a variety of noodle dishes. My two friends and I ordered four plates to share and were pleasantly full. The portions are average and may still leave you wanting Pok Pok’s chicken wings… In terms of taste, the pad see ew and pad thai were too sweet. I was also the only one who thought the pad thai had a hint of ketchup. The Thai Iced Coffee was also too watered down :( Prices are more than what I’m used to but what do you expect? Each dish ranges from $ 9-$ 12. Great and convenient option if you don’t want to wait for Pok Pok.
