Stopped by here to refuel for the trip back to Austin but they were closed :(We should have paid attention to the fact that they were closed on Monday and Tuesdays but we did not. However, they had the doors open as they were still making their tasty creations for other customers. So… we kind of walked in, and asked, «what gives? We need more breads!!!» But we said it with puppy dog eyes and a hint of desperation. Well, the kind and sweet bakers did something that will make this the first place we stop by when revisiting Portland… Kindness, when unexpected, is amazing, love this bakery!
Make it a point to visit this place, just make sure they are open :)

Super impressed with Bakeshop! This bakery is a James Beard nominee for best baker, so I had to check it out. Beautiful, bright and open location. I love the simplistic display of all the food they have left in a large glass case. Apparently I got here late (around 1pm) and there wasn’t as much left, but I tried a bran muffin which was amazing. I can’t wait to come back and try the croissant and the quiche. Come early or call ahead and have them set something side for you if you know exactly what you want! The woman who helped me have me gave me that piece of advice which I thought was awesome. Overall a great experience and I can’t wait to go back!

This is my favorite local bakery — the croissants are simply to die for and come in nice varieties. I haven’t had anything here that wasn’t simply dreamy! Grab a coffee next door and then come in here, browse for what looks best, and prepare to be delighted!

I love this place. They use whole grains in the majority of their baked goods, so I get to maintain the illusion that all this deliciousness is somehow healthy. I adore their maple scones, and the chocolate croissants, with single origin chocolate from next door are incredible. The people at the counter, who are also baking all this deliciousness are friendly and warm. There is a little counter to sit at and a jar of ice water and glasses, which as a non-​coffee person is perfect for me. My only complaint is that there is no trash can to put my empty pastry bag and napkin in, and I feel like a schmuck handing them my trash and used glass across the counter. They’re always super gracious about it, but I wish I didn’t have to. Do yourself a favor and stop by.

The Bakeshop is my guilty pleasure. On weekends, if I have been good (ahem), I sneak down to Extracto early to get one of their almond croissants. It is five bucks, which is a bit outrageous for a pastry, but oh man, all I can think when I eat it is how much money I have saved not having to make a trip to Paris to find an equally good pastry. And if I get there after 9, they are sure to be sold out and tears will be shed. The almond croissant is more of a hybrid of a croissant and something else, heavy with an almond cream center and liberally dusted with confectioner’s sugar and sliced almonds. Seriously world-​class pastries.

The bran muffins are my favorite! They do blueberry in the summer and apple in the winter. They’re filling and not too sweet.

Oh, figgy buckwheat scone…
Where have you been all my life? You’re like some delicious hybrid of a fig bar and a good grainy scone, and I love you. And what’s even more cool is that you can be found all around Portland. Seriously, at least 3 different coffee shops I went to had you sitting happily in their baked good display case, screaming ‘pick me’!
Case in point, guys, make sure you pick up at least one figgy buckwheat scones when you visit Portland. I wish there was slightly more filling, as buckwheat is a bit drying, but I still can’t wait to return and try more of the fabulous baked goods from Bakeshop!

The peach hand pies are amazing. The baguette with butter and cheese is a must have. The texture of the baguette was perfectly soft, crispy and chewy and matched perfectly with the cheese.

excellent … some may consider it small but i think it’s perfectly sized. Everything executed thoughtfully with a twist and a little flair (corn gryuere muffin, pesto croissant etc … too many to list) Limited seating but there is case study next door and nice neighboorhood

This bakery is very small and quaint. It has an inviting and cute interior and I love that you can see the bakers working in the back. I think it makes for a better bakery experience!
That said, I went on a Saturday around 11:30 in the morning and seeings as this is an all-​day production bakery (and not just in the morning) I figured they would have much more to offer but the selection was limited. Maybe I came during a lull between things being ready, but I was disappointed at the case’s emptiness. There were only about 5 savory options (one of which was just a cheese straw) and only 3 cookie options.
That all being said, I got the Sweet & Salty cookie and a Cheddar Bacon scone. The cookie seemed overdone and really brittle, even in the middle. It just tasted over baked, but not inedible.
The scone had such an amazing texture. You could tell it was fresh baked. Unlike scones that have sat around, it was fluffy and moist with a wonderful light crumb. I was equally impressed with the large piece of bacon on top as well as the bits inside. The cheddar flavor was lacking, though, and I mostly tasted honey. Honey Bacon Scone, maybe? So I’d highly recommend their scones – some of the best I’ve tasted.
Overall it was an average bakery doing a few interesting things, but I wasn’t crazy impressed. I would go back and try some more stuff when the spring/​summer items come along.

I have had some absolutely delicious pastries here, and a few things that were just ok. The shortbread and fruit tarts are incredible. The selection sometimes isn’t the best if you want something more interesting than cookies and scones.
Overall, it’s worth a stop if you’re in the area and are craving somehing sweet.

Chances are that if you had some delicious baked good in a coffee shop that it was made here.
The home location is sparse with only a few stools meant for scarfing, not lounging. I suppose you could sneak your stuff next door at Case Study Coffee.
Hand pies are great. Kougin Aman makes me *almost* appreciate French culture.

These are some of the most savory baked goods I’ve ever had. I love having one of the croissants or bacon cheddar scones as breakfast on the go when I haven’t had time to eat (Side note: there are a lot of places that try to put bacon on things as is the trend right now but often serve it dried out … but even the bacon here is just right!). And that’s before even getting started on the amazing cookies and hand-​size pies if you’re craving something sweet. They even occasionally have a French style baguette sandwich if you need lunch!
The staff is extremely friendly; I have never been greeted with anything less than a smile and courteous service. There are bakeries. And then there is the Bakeshop!

The Bake Shop has been a borderline 4-​Star for me since its opening. However, I’ve recently grown more fond of the Ham & Butter baguette, savory croissant, and $ 2 Cheese Straw, it’s difficult to find better versions.
Service is consistently above average.

Super friendly employees willing to explain what some items were that we were not familiar with. Great way to start our trip with some yummy breakfast pastries. The apple one really held up well when having it a day or two later.

They have seating indoors now and with case study and pitch dark next door, this is a hard combination to beat. One of my favorite bakeries in Portland right now. Everything is so spot on delicious and the service is so friendly. The cheese straws, hand pies and scones are some of my favorites.

Their spread is always amazing — it’s a pastry head who’s semi wholesome dream come true. I’m always faced with the question: sweet or savory? And then make my decision from their. These days, it’s usually savory and I’m always in luck because they carry a lush offering of whole grain croissant dough stuffed with glorious dark leafy greens and pungent cheese. Not to mention savory muffins. Put it in your mouth!
Almond croissants on the weekend, folks, and I still haven’t had one! But, Bakeshop is so good, I’m already administering the 5 stars. I’m kind of scared to try the almond croissant because I have such high expectations.
Now let’s talk about atmosphere. It’s quick get in and get out with your booty. The bakery case is close to the door so you can get to business quick. Also, Case Study Coffee is next door which is pretty convenient if your feigning an Ethiopian Natural pour over. Boom! Make it happen. Good things are happening to the mid-​deep Sandy hood.

Sue and I had been talking about going to Bakeshop for a while now. She has a friend who works here. If not for that, I probably would never have heard of it.
We came up here on Sunday morning to get a light breakfast treat. She had a Gruyère muffin ($ 3) and I had a Cranberry and Orange hand pie ($ 4). Both were very good and looked like they took some time and love to be made. If we could’ve gotten one of everything here we would have. Everything looked wonderful.

I liked the bestselling figgy buckwheat scone, but I REALLY liked the sweet & salty cookie. I definitely never had anything like it before: huge chunks of milk chocolate, dark and golden raisins, and pumpkin seeds roasted in chili flakes and salt. Really loved all of the different flavors. I know people can be particular about the texture of their cookies… the s&s is on the crispier side. I tend to like chewy, but I didn’t care because all of the different tastes were so great.
There’s no seating, and they don’t even sell drinks (but there is a vat of ice water). Thanks to a deal with Case Study Coffee next door, though, you can order some coffee and eat your Bakeshop goodies there.

i stopped in bakeshop on my way to work to pick up some treats for the staff. WOW! everything looked delicious! I tried the sweet and salty cookie which had big chocolate chunks and (what I think were) pumpkin seeds in int.
Great packaging complete with bakers string. Nice staff. Lovely space.
I’ll be back… maybe this mornig for that figgy buckwheat scone…
