I came in two nights ago with my boyfriend for what was seriously one of the most surprisingly delicious burgers I’ve ever had. I ordered it Sumo Style and solo glad I did, the beef was so tender and juicy… The sauce was on point, very savory but not soggy at all. I also had a cocktail, I think it was called The Red Letter? It was bourbon based, absolutely delicious. Cool and knowledgeable bartender, friendly(but not over bearing) staff. The food is priced accordingly… It’s really really good and worth it!

This place is the definition of classy sushi bar with a real Portland feel to it! The restaurant has great options for hand made rolls from basic california rolls to more intricate dishes for the sea SD oned sushi veteran. The atmosphere is very classy with just enough lighting, and cucumber slices in your ice water! Overall a great sushi find!

Woah. I was not expecting such an amazing experience. My roomie told me of this place when I first moved in and I thought I would try it. CAUTION: Happy Hour is from 4:30 — 6:00pm. GETTHEREAT4:30. I thought yeah right, why would I go at 4:30 when I could swing in at 5. Luckily I did show up at 4:30 and there was already a line. By the time I had sat down at the bar and looked at the menu the place was packed. I went ahead and ordered the Nigiri set which came out to perfection. The hand roll(which I believe had spicy albacore) was so damn good I had two of them! Then I had the okonomiyaki which blew my mind. Crispy and delicious! Everything about my time there was great and I will definetly be back here!

Not that they need this review. But I severely wish that Bamboo was my next door sushi joint. I feel extreme jealousy towards those for whom this is a fact. Service has been outstanding both visits. Food is out of this world delicious and has something for everyone, honey didn’t feel like having an all sushi meal so he got himself the burger and a superb(his word) Japanese whiskey. I started writing this review sitting at Bamboo this past September, and as I finish it from my Brooklyn home my feelings for Bamboo have not changed. Until next time Bamboo Sushi.

I admit, I was skeptical at first, like, can it really be as good as everyone says? Yes, yes it can. Came here for my brother’s birthday dinner, it was his choice of venue. We got there at 6:00 on a Saturday, which turned out to be the perfect time to go. We had a 10-minute wait and by the time we were seated and ordering drinks, there was a line almost to the door! Our server, Forrest, was friendly and helpful in picking out sake, of which I am no expert, sticking mainly to the chrysanthemum box at L.A.‘s Blossom. We ordered two flights, and of all six sakes, my personal favorite was the«Beauty of Akita.» I ordered a full-sized serving later and they do the traditional«over pour.» Food-wise, everything was a hit. We stuck mainly to the nigiri, ordering the albacore with the tempura crunchies, the eel, a metric-tonne of sweet shrimp(comes with the heads) and a couple of kinds of roe. My favorite, the pièce de résistance, the salmon sunrise, tasted just like it sounds, like a bright ray of sunlight right in your mouth. On paper it sounds a bit weird, lemon zest and olive oil and orange, but it all came together in a vibrant, fatty bite. Other highlights were the albacore carpaccio, the«garden of eden» roll(with apple, basil and pickled mustard seed, whut?), and the shishito peppers, which were smothered in a miso butter that my brother said he’d like to bathe in. I concur. For dessert, the chocolate ganache bar, that was gone way too soon. It could have also used a touch less honey, but I am just not a huge fan of honey. What I liked most about Bamboo was its subtlety. The menu is extensive, and by all rights there are flavors on there that don’t seem like they should work – apples and mustard seeds being a great example – but they pull it off, and fantastically, too. Granted, the vibe is not at all rustic, but it isn’t showy, either. So yes, I was a cynic walking in and came out won-over. Kudos, Bamboo.

Party of two for 8 o’clock dinner on a Tuesday night. We were told it would be a 15 minute wait, and it was actually 10 minutes. I don’t understand previous Unilocal comments that this place was pricey; in fact, I found it to be very reasonably priced. We ordered different items from the menu starting from the front to the back; the waiter was very patient and attentive. A box of warm, salted edamame pods was delivered to our table immediately. Friendly team service filled our beverages persistently so we never had to ask for any refills. The tempura shrimp appetizer was generous in portions and delicately fried. Traditional maki rolls with nori executed nicely as in other fine sushi restaurants I have experienced; hand rolls also met and exceeded expectations.

This restaurant exceeded my expectations. All the staff we interacted with were very welcoming and personable. Very friendly and eager to serve. I had the house special vegetarian roll called the 310 and the burger, both of which were delectable. We came with a large party with mixed diets. Vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians and meat eaters were all very satisfied and full. This is my new favorite Portland restaurant and I’ll return each time I’m back in town. Ask for Emily as a waitress. She is superb. Thanks Bamboo!

Good sushi. I like this place but my favorite location is 23rd street. Great fresh food. Always greeted with a smile. You get cucumber water and a complimentary dish of warm and perfectly salted edamame. I love the PDX roll and the cucumber roll. Top it all off with some warm or cold sake and perfection. When I think of sushi, I think of Bamboo Sushi. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed.

This is by far my favorite sushi place in Portland. Sure, it’s a bit pricey, and it’s usually crowded, but it’s worth it for good sushi. My husband and I prefer to sit at the bar, which is cozy. Plus you get to see everything get made right in front of you. The service is always excellent and the food is delicious. They are happy to alter a roll or even make one that is not on the menu(we oftentimes order the«Friday the 13th» roll, which I’ve only seen as a special once). Highly recommended! Tip: Get here early(5:30/6-ish) to avoid the rush.

First experience at Bamboo exceeded my expectations. We went with the tasting menu, which gave us a broad taste of what Bamboo has to offer. I loved every part of the tasting menu except for the uni crème brûlée. I love sea urchin, but the flavor didn’t translate for me into a dessert. The dragon cocktail was a spicy sweet combo of chili infused sake and guava. I love sweet and spicy, and this cocktail did it for me. I will definitely be back to try the rest of their sushi menu, and take advantage of their happy hour that runs from 4:30−6 p.m.

Excellent sushi and sustainable as well! Chef choice sashimi was delicious, and like every review on Unilocal, the green machine is legit. –My dining experience was a little off putting due to a table of moms and their very unruly toddlers. They were throwing food around the restaurant, and overall making a big mess. Servers had to go to the table 3x to clean up. One was shirt and pantless, running and being carried around in her diapers. A little crying. I’ve never seen this in all my life of living in NYC, and can’t understand why people would do this… This is a nice sushi restaurant, not a Chuck-e-Cheese…

This place has amazing sushi! Everything I had was great honestly. Definitely worth the money and sitting at the bar was entertaining! I loved the sweet potato option and their fish is not fishy at all, very fresh.

Sustainable sushi and yummy sake flights! We tried the southeast and bartender’s flights. I preferred the latter since it was lighter :) We also tried assorted nigiri, albacore carpaccio, and the seared aburi nigiri! The aburi nigiri was the best out of everything we tried. The other nigiri were good but not the freshest we’ve had. Shoutout to Sarah who is awesome! She’s really nice, answered all of our questions about the menu, and gave us great recommendations. She even took a photo for us :) Plus she’s hot! We’ll definitely be back! Great food and great service! Great vibe in general.

I LOVE Bamboo Sushi. It’s fun, beautiful inside with large windows, completely unpretentious and friendly, with delicious food! It’s awesome. They have the best vegan sushi rolls; I know, an oxymoron! But, it’s true. Try the Buddha roll; it’s pickled veggies — good for everyone’s digestion — and So so good!!! My favorite thing is their«potato killer,» which was recommended by the server. It’s sweet potato with garlic soy butter. Sounds gross, if you don’t eat that way, but, let me tell you, it’s amazing!!! They have a great drink menu if you’re into that kind of thing, a fun happy hour with better prices, and a really delicious veggie tempura(though, personally, I prefer the freshness of their veggie sushi to fried veggies). Whether you eat fish or are vegan, Bamboo Sushi is a fun place to eat cute rolls and dine in beauty!

Bamboo is arguably the best sushi in Portland. I certainty think it is and I guess you’ll have to find out what you think by checking it out. My first experience with this location was on New Years Eve a few years ago. We requested a table for five. Of course we had to wait, but the wait really wasn’t too bad and we had drinks while we stood around. We ordered some sort of chef’s tasting menu for the table, which isn’t actually on the menu. Maybe our waitress just made it up? Regardless, it was amazing. Seriously the best cuts of fish I’ve ever had. I recently went back and ordered some more simple rolls this time. Of course it was nothing like the tasting menu, but they were still delicious and quenched a sushi craving. It took quite a while for them to come out, which was a bit disappointing, but they were busy and it’s worth the wait. We were happily entertained by the complimentary edamame and the quest of finding out what a another customer’s cartoon ghost’s party sash had written on it. We never were able to find out… Excited to try happy hour next time. Oh, and they’re B Corp certified and SERIOUSLY sustainable. Read all about it here: I think that’s truly the icing on the cake and definitely makes Bamboo Sushi five stars in my book.

5 stars for sushi is only reserved for the top of the top… Best of the best. This place gets 4 stars as some of the best of the rest. Came in with only 30 minutes left in service so we limited ourselves to nigiri and sashimi — an absolutely strong showing. All you need to do is try the chefs sashimi sampler to see how fresh and delicious sushi can be. The atmosphere is boisterous and yet relaxing. The service is solid and very helpful as we asked for recommendations for the next day. Pricing is on the higher end but you are getting high quality fish. The sourcing is also appreciated.

Very glad I stopped to check out Bamboo Sushi during my trip in PDX. Service was fast and friendly and the food was above par. I ordered the California sunset, green machine with albacore, spicy tuna hand roll, and tuna and avocado hand roll.(Of course I didn’t eat all this myself… ha.ha.) No seriously, I split the rolls with my mom and we both really enjoyed them. The California sunset was a little boring, but it was good. Green machine was awesome! It would probably be in my top 20 favorite sushi rolls.(I’ve eaten a lot of sushi in my 17 years of life). Hand rolls were awesome. Very fresh and delicious tuna in both of the rolls. I really enjoyed the tuna and avocado one. They put a little cucumber in your water and I thought that was a nice touch.

So we really weren’t very impressed by this restaurant. The Decour the restaurant itself the bathrooms everything is super nice, but when it came down to the food itself wasn’t that good. Who knows, maybe it’s because we are from California but we were not impressed. The sushi though it he’s a kid it wasn’t spectacular, and it wasn’t anything that we hadn’t had before for a lot less price. That yucky soba noodles were pretty good but for the price I got about what would be enough for an appetizer, not for an entire meal. I think what we liked the most was the service, everyone we interacted with was very nice. And that your inks, they were very tasty but they were also pretty pricey. If you’re coming here for sushi you can probably find that a sushi joint somewhere else, but I don’t know Portland sushi. If you’re coming here for the ambience in the service, great place. Also looks like they had a full bar.
