this place is the best! I’ve had my fair share of pad thai, green curry, tom yum, but this place tops them all! I’ve never had a bad dish, they make trying something new fun. I order delivery more often than going to the restaurant itself, and i’ve NEVER had a wrong order, at least 10plus times I have ordered to go(not to mention i’ll order 5 or so dishes for the family). one suggestion I have it getting mango juice with your food, they go soooo good together!

My partner and I were looking to go out for a date night, and were really craving some Thai food. The local Thai place we normally go to was closed, so we did a search for something else. So, we decided to give this place a try since it had some pretty good reviews, and we had never been here before. We’re definitely coming back. The food was terrific, the price was better than expected, the server was helpful, and the food came out quickly. I highly recommend this place, and I know we haven’t seen the last of it.

The food and service was good. Kid friendly enough. A little pricy. Good for takeout.

I don’t know why this spot has so many bad reviews! I have gotten delivery from them lots of times and they are always fast and polite, and the food is delicious. I’ve never actually been in to the restaurant, but I’ve gotten delivery so many times that the guy recognized me when I ordered from a friends’ house! I really like their food.

Overpriced and yucky. We paid $ 7.25 for shrimp salad rolls that were 90% lettuce and not nearly the portion size I expected for a $ 7 item. Our entrees were Pineapple Fried Rice and Rad Nah, a noodle dish with veggies. My husband was definitely luckier with the fried rice, since it was edible. My Rad Nah was more like«Hell-nah!». Gross, congealed noodles that gave off a funky odor and a container full of soupy, salty veggies to pour over it. I ended up eating half of his fried rice. Both entrees were $ 9.25, and I regret paying more than $ 3 for this entire meal. Despite it’s close proximity to our house and the prompt delivery service, we will NOT be eating here again.

Maybe my sister is bad luck? Her suggestion led me astray again! It really wasn’t her fault, she had been there before and had a decent experience. This place is very small, and was not full or busy by any standards. It took twenty minutes till they took our order. I was aware that it was taking a while but I was distracted by the good conversations, and it was all ready late so I didn’t want to leave yet… The guy took our drink order before this, but didn’t bring the drinks until requested for the third time. My mom and sister both ordered an appetizer, then we all ordered dinner items. The food didn’t come for another thirty minutes. And it was just the appetizers– which came out five minutes apart at that. Then they brought my sister’s soup order as an appetizer. My sister very politely said that she had meant to order the bowl for a meal, and the waiter argued that she ordered the bowl which is the appetizer. He did not bring it back to serve hot with the rest of our meals, just left it at the table. I would have left at this point but because my whole family was there it didn’t seem kosher. It then took an additional twenty minutes(my sister had finished her entire bowl of soup) for the rest of our food to come out, I had to stop the waiter and ask where it was. The food was just ok. The prices were very high for this neighborhood/style. And of course it took forever to bring the check. We did notice that a table of two(we were six) was sat, ordered, ate, paid, and left before we were served any of our food. Total time in slow restaurant — 2 hours. This place is in my hood and I am so willing to support the places here, even overlook a bad day here and there, but this was no bueno. Thai Fresh is a quick drive away and has much better service, prices, and flavor.

The food was 5 star worth for me. I also liked the atmosphere and overall«feel» of the place. But the service wasn’t great. The waiter was not very friendly or attentive. And after we finished our meal(and waited a while) he came and offered the cheque. When my wife said we were interested in dessert, he was obviously annoyed. Maybe it was close to closing time, I think it was about 8:45 but I was not impressed. Another minor annoyance is they didn’t have cloth napkins, just the same kind of napkins you would get at McDonalds or Subway. As nice as the place was and for the quality of food, it seemed strange that they put out paper napkins. The prices were OK $ 13 – 15 for most entrees and the quality was excellent.

This place is pretty good. Very friendly staff. The soups are kinda small though(even the large), and while the broths are very good, I always wish there were way more vegetables in them. The last time I got tom kah at this place($ 9.75), there was about one chopped scallion, one sliced mushroom, less than half a tomato and some sliced onion in it. Isn’t there usually more to it? The noodle dishes are tasty, but again, the portions are rather small. Maybe I’m too hungry for this place.

So pleased to find a Thai Food place within reasonable driving distance of my Portland office building(102nd and Burnside). The Mussaman Curry was alright — but the Tom Ka soup was absolutely mouth-watering. A co-worker who used to waitress at a thai restaurant met me here for a lunch meeting and suggested we split a curry and soup. We added some rice to the soup to thicken it and… I’ve been craving it ever since. Felt bad that we actually stayed 30 minutes past their closing time — they close down in the middle of the day to prepare for the dinner hour. But the owner/server was super nice about it and understanding. We tipped well to make up for our in-attention to the sign on the door. Was dreaming about the soup all holiday long, so I took my mom and sister here the week after Christmas and they loved it as well. The décor is pleasant and laid back — the service is a bit slow, but since the atmosphere is cozy, I didn’t feel uncomfortable lingering. Kinda nice to go to a restaurant where you don’t have to shout over ambient noise to be heard. Will definitely stop here for another lunch date again!

They got our order wrong, make sure you say the food item and not just order with the letter/number combination. Also found it strange that they didn’t even offer to replace with the correct item. Food was okay but not good enough to come back. The red curry was nothing special and was a small serving. Ordered a dish that from the description was going to be a curry(without coconut milk), but gut a small bowl with a crystal clear broth, more like a soup then a curry and lacked depth

Hooray for another option on the Stark Strip! We were walking down the street, after deciding that the Observatory was waaaay too full, when a couple of girls seated outside saw us sizing up the menu and said: «It’s really good!» «Yeah?» we said. «Yeah!» In fact, another group had told them the same thing as they contemplated the same menu only one hour earlier. Talk about word of mouth! We had mostly appetizers, and they were pretty alright. Something fresh yet filling. Something tasty. Something on Stark that you can eat before or after a movie, without the wait or weird hours of the other deliciousnesses along the road.

Just noticed this place last night. Very clean and bright inside so we went on in. Service was a little slow but we did not really mind so much. We ordered their special pumpkin curry, papaya salad and salad rolls. I asked for spicy and it did have a kick to it. The pumpkin was chunky and not mushy so you could really taste the flavor of it. The curry was spiced well. I loved my papaya salad and the papaya was crunchy and the spices were also well done. Sometimes I come across sweet papaya salad. They do not make it that way thank goodness. Rolls were rolled not just in the rice wrappers but also in lettuce which made them taste even fresher. Peanut sauce was not too sweet either. Looking forward to more visits.

Thank you Unilocal app on my iphone for finding this gem! It was really wonderful. Beautiful inside, nice and inviting décor. Wait staff was pleasant and efficient and quick to notice if you need anything. Yes, I know I’ve said this before, but truly this is now the front runner in finding THE Thai food I have been used to since being introduced to it 20+ years ago, before moving up here. Seriously. The peanut sauce was creamy not oily at all, and had tiny chunks of peanut in it. Mmmm hmmm. The chicken satay was grilled nicely and not over cooked or had that dreaded breading on it I’ve been served at some spots. And they serve the cucumber/red onion salad with it! YES! Yellow curry shrimp was perfection in a bowl for me. Creamy sauce with a little kick to it, plentiful shrimp(10 pieces, I KNOW!) that were tender and not fishy at all with the soft yet little firm potato, carrot and onions. YUM. I could eat 5 bowls of this, well not really, but I’d like to. I’m going back again and again now that I’ve found you, Bangkok!

Absolutely fabulous. The food itself is wonderful, the owners are friendly and the soup is to die for. The first time I went there, I ordered the large Tom Yum Kai soup and a main course. Then quickly canceled the main course(whatever it was) because the large soup was LARGE. It was easily its own full meal. And what a tasty meal it was! Piping hot, perfect balance of flavors, and(as requested) spicy enough that I could feel the layers of stomach lining being peeled away as I ate it. Even the owner thought I was nuts for eating it that spicy, but it didn’t kill the flavor of the soup one bit. Clearly the ingredients were fresh enough to shine through. On subsequent visits I’ve had their other fare and I have yet to run into something I dislike. On top of that, they have nice outdoor seating for summers and they serve normal beers in addition to the ‘standard’ Thai place beers. They also have a small bar seating area for lunches, which I really appreciate. They never seem overwhelmingly busy, which is both good and bad, but for the moment at least they don’t show up on many internet searches, so I’m going to enjoy this restaurants’ status as a hidden gem while it lasts.

I love Thai food and am typically pretty picky about it. I enjoyed my entire experience at this new restaurant and we’re so happy they are a part of the great line of food and cafes in Montavilla! What I loved: 1. It was spicy! Usually when you ask for something«hot» you get just a smidge of spicy on your tongue. But their«hot» means it! :) I loved it! And let that be a warning to you if you don’t want it hot. 2. The service! It was exceptional for Portland! We even had the manager come out and visit for a bit. He explained the way they make their sticky rice and mango dish. It was very interesting and we really enjoy learning about the food we eat. The meal was delivered quickly and that impressed us. 3. Masuman Curry, Salad Wraps and Mango Sticky Rice! While we ordered several other dishes, these were our favorites. Usually I don’t like Masuman Curry, but I LOVED it here!(I will add, usually Green Curry is my favorite, but it didn’t knock my socks off) The Salad Wraps were beautiful presented(someone earlier said they used ice burg lettuce, but that wasn’t how it was served for us) and was bursting with flavors. We really adored the peanut sauce that came with it! My husband says the Mango Sticky Rice was worth coming back for every day. :) It wasn’t overly sweet and we prefer it that way. 4. Presentation! Everything was beautifully presented and it was clear they took great care to make it so. We thought the décor was fitting and relaxing. I really loved the colors of the walls. The chairs, tables, etc… are all in good order(no rocking tables to be seen anywhere!) and it was a very clean place. Only Criticism 1. For Thai food, it might be a little on the expensive side. But, given that it was some of the best we’ve had in a long time, it may just be worth it from time to time. Welcome to the neighborhood!!! We’re so glad you’re here!

Bangkok Bites is the newest addition to the Montavilla Thrilla(yeah, it’s sizzlin’ hot) strip on SE Stark between 76th and 82nd. Housed in the former Romo’s Latin Quarter, this tiny little Thai place offers up a standard selection of curries, noodles and stir fry dishes, alongside a specials menu that reads… well… it sounds tasty. Hilary and I stopped in for some grub on a sunny Sunday evening around 6pm, and the place was only sparsely filled. The interior is very similar to the style when it was Romo’s, with a few added features(and some pretty bad art on the walls). The servers are all smiles and enthusiastic that you’re there. The menu’s are done in a sort of crafty style, printed on bright paper and held together with plastic school report spines. There are already lots of handwritten changes on the menu, but that just adds to the character. We sampled the tofu salad rolls with peanut sauce, an order of mieng kam, an order of Som Tum papaya salad, and some pad phet(red chili-paste stir fry). The salad rolls were just ok(iceberg lettuce filler? really?!) but the peanut sauce that accompanied them was quite good. The mieng kam was tasty, and came with spinach leaves instead of the traditional and hard-to-get betel leaves, but there was enough peanuts, shrimp, chilis, ginger, onions, limes and coconut to make a decent number of wraps. That said, not the best mieng kam selection I’ve had. The Som Tam was too weak for my palate(it was ordered without the little dried shrimp, so that may have contributed) but Hilary liked it just fine(she’s not a fan of those lil shrimps). My pad phet was… lacking in flavor, and pretty small for the $ 9.25 price tag. Definitely not close to the local par, which has been set by Bai Yok around the corner. We also ordered some brown rice on the side, and it’s REAL brown rice, so I gotta give them points for that. Not sure how much more it cost, but I was so glad to not be stuck with the standard white rice option. Overall, our $ 32 meal(no drinks — pre tip) was kind of pricey and not really all that fulfilling. I did leave with a full stomach(since I ate an entire order of salad rolls alongside a full order of stir fry and rice) but I was not really super satisfied with the flavorings in the food. It lacked a certain amount of depth — something that I strive for in good Thai. With ever so many options, even in the near area, I’m not sure I’ll be rushing back any time soon. I’m glad someone has taken over the former Romo’s space, and I hope this doesn’t turn in to one of those eternally cursed restaurant venues, but based on what I ate today, I’m not really bowled over. I will definitely try some noodles some time, but until then, the smiley service and convenient location merit a 3 stars from me.

Not sure about all the bad reviews either. I had take out Friday that was the best panang curry I’ve had in PDX. Lunch there when they first opened was excellent too. Definitely going back.
