The ambiance and the staff are the best around! You can’t beat the sweet treat meat drinks anywhere.

Dear God, I love this place. It’s so comfortable in every way. Bartenders have always been friendly, I love that it’s dark and dank and slightly dusty, and the clientele is always a hoot. I’m no extrovert, but we end up meeting the greatest people here – one of my favorite memories was during the NBA playoffs, hugging some random dude after a timely 3-pointer. I honestly don’t each much here unless I’m already drunk, and then I stick to the fried things. I think the fried things are always tasty, but as I said, I’m usually drunk by that point, so I’m not the most trustworthy on the food. But the beer, the drinks, the people, and just the aura of the place make me so happy.

Been to this bar a number of times and always had a good time. Nice beer selection; reasonably priced beers and mixed drinks; good music and lively patrons. Why the one star? Shady bartender and poor management. Was there on April 16, 2016 with a friend. Decided to start a tab. The total bill came to $ 13 for 2IPA’s &2PBR’s. Decided to tip $ 3. My credit card company ironically notified me when they received a charge for $ 5 tip on the bill. The bartender decided to add $ 2 more to the tip I was leaving. I called the bar and the owner, who refused to confirm his name, responded by telling me to take it up with the bartender. Poor management and questionable employees to say the least. If you’re going to visit this bar, do yourself a favor and pay as you drink with cash. I personally will never step foot in the bar again and this post is letting others know what you’re dealing with. Sad price to pay for a $ 2 theft.

I’ve always really liked this place as a bar. It’s a cool atmosphere with a great heated patio. I was disappointed though when I ordered the chicken strips and was presented with four minuscule pieces of chicken. My boy got the cesar wrap and it had more chicken in it than my actual order of chicken had. Don’t get me wrong, it was good chicken but the quantity was DEFINITELY not worth the price. I’m not usually one to complain but I did ask the bartender if this was the normal serving size. While very friendly, she replied yes like I was crazy for asking. Will still regular this bar but will be looking for food elsewhere.

I’ve always had a awesome night at this bar. I normally only drink here. A friend and I decided to eat here one night and no. Their food the the worst. I was pretty disappointed. I love the atmosphere here, the bartender’s are rad, but definitely pass on the food.

Amy makes this place rock. She is to bartending what Shakespeare was to playwriting. Great service, cold beer, and one big smile. She made it hard to go back to Illinois. I am extremely anxious to go back. The perfect place to meet friends downtown.

If Amy is working, you will have an absolutely awesome time. Can’t comment on other bartenders, but AMY rocks.

Worst customer service I have received in a long time, and yes, I’ve bartended and served for the past 8 years. Waited 30 minutes for their«special of the day» burrito. After 30 minutes passed I asked the bar back if our food was on its way. He said he would check. He then came out saying that they ran out of rice and were cooking some more. We told him it was fine and that we would be fine without the rice. 15 minutes later, no response and no food. I then asked the bartender if she knew anything about when our Food was coming out and she said they were still waiting on rice. 5 minutes later, the burritos come out, COLD, and NEITHER with rice. So what was the 45 minute hold up? Thoroughly confused. Shitty service, rude bartender. Won’t be back.

Long before there was a bar on every corner in this town, there was BOG. It’s a righteous dive. without all the sad old men. The food is bomb-diggity, the drinks are cheap and the bartenders are on it like vomit. Don’t let the weird name fool you. the vibe is laid back and unpretentious. Let the hipsters and douchebags have downtown and NoPo. I’ll take Hawthorne over that crap any day!

Kind of a little dive-y, but dear goodness, I love this place. I’ve had many great memories at this bar, and the staff has always been willing to make any drink or food I’ve ever asked for without gruff, and can make amazing beer recommendations.

This bar is one of my favorites but the bartender Britney… If that’s her name. She was working the night of 2⁄10. I bought a beer and it had accidently got spilled by another person of my party, she wouldn’t refill it even though I just bought it and told me I had to pay for another one. As a bartender myself, I would have just refilled it for the guest. Because of that I’d rather not spend my business here if she’s working. Bad business. No thanks.

This bar is a gem. The bartender was simply adorable, charismatic, and knowledgable. It’s a lovely place to pass time waiting for a nearby reservation. I’ve also heard the mojitos are great but they were out of mint.

What’s that? You have margarita slushies?! And you can top them off with some Razzmatazz? Save that Chambord crap for a higher and mightier quadrant crowd, I’ll take my Dekuyper like a grateful SE champ, thank you very much. Let me just pull up a chair and chat with you while I wait for a table next door at Apizza Scholls. You’re my new best friend and favorite way to wait for pizza. What’s funny to me is that my sister, from Boston, discovered this place about 10 years before I ever did. She always was great at finding the best bars full of neighbors unwinding on the boulevard after a day’s work.

I’m a big fan of dive bars and this place is close to the top of my list when I visited the Portland area. I can’t remember how many drinks I ordered but my bill was dirt cheep. A friend of mine ordered a bit of food and he really seemed to enjoy it.

We went here early on a Friday evening and it was just getting open so pretty quiet. The bartender was absolutely top notch. He noticed that we had a dog and let us bring him inside which made him super happy(he loves going inside buildings). Anyway, this place just has a great divey feeling but not the dirty side, the quirky side. It has all the things you want in good dive bar: pool, pinball, stiff drinks, cold beer, righteous bar food and from our experience great servers. Just go and enjoy yourself.

loved it here! such a fun, funky place in a funky town. I love a good dive bar and this was perfect. Good, live music. Lots of pinball to play. Great beers. All in all a great stop during our travels of Portland.

When picking a name, why not aim high? Bar of the Gods is not an entirely accurate name for this dive bar. But as far as dive bars go, it ain’t that divey! Good selection of beer, varied food menu, a few pinball machines, a couple tvs, and good comfortable booths. Not bad!

My boyfriend and I came here the other day and ordered a few mixed drinks. The summer’s eve was very refreshing and delicious. Not to mention strong. There is a pool table and a patio for smoking in the back. We didn’t eat here but the menu didn’t look too bad. Great experience overall.

Bar of the Gods is a rock-solid dive bar complete with a full line up of local draft beers, cocktails, pool tables, bathrooms that aren’t disgusting, and food for drunk people. They get pretty packed on Friday nights, but the crowd in there is pretty rad. Everyone seems to be having a good time. My group shared a booth with a wasted couple on their first Tinder date… and then I drank enough to order«Tachos.» That’s tater tot nachos, folks, and it’s exactly what you want to eat when you’re drunk. The bartenders manage to be warm and accommodating even when the joint is packed and it’s hard to find a spot at the bar to order a drink. If you’re in the Hawthorne area for a night out, Bar of the Gods is a good option for a fun night.

I would put it in as a 3.5 but my experience was positive there. As a girl you don’t want to be wandering the streets on the Eastside of portland and since this bar is slightly secluded it’s more of a destination than a bar hop. Be prepared to park down Hawthorne or in a neighborhood. We had a good time watching football, drinking fairly priced drinks, and playing pool. It was a Saturday and wasn’t packed full of people which made it more relaxing. The drinks were delicious. They had a different selection of beer which forced me to try something new but I enjoyed it. I got the ninkasi slayer(I think that’s what it was). It was smooth but had the flavor of an IPA. I also had a drink called “? Lebowski” I can’t tremendous the first part but it had Jameson, Irish whiskey, brandy.. basically delicious! I recommend this place for any groups wanting to relax and have a good time without being in a club atmosphere.

The service is great. I’ve always heard good things about this place and finally checking it out exceeded my expectations. The happy hour is pretty on point and obviously the location is phenomenal. Food is good and the general vibe is nice. The bar is a cool set up with a really good playlist consistently going with a wide variety of genres. Also, drink all the vodka redbulls here!

I was writing my review for Apizza Scholls(short and sweet, nothing but love for that place. ommmmnommm) and figured I should review Bar of the Gods as well, since we spent an equal amount of time here, if not actually a little more — dang waiting time for delicious pizza. This place is awesome! And I’m not just saying that because my sister and I spent 80 minutes(and a few $s) playing ‘Little Shop of Treasures’ on the video game thingy on the back bar so we could finally beat the top score(BUTWEDID. FINALLY.); or because there’s pinball there — it’s just a really cool dive-y bar. Low key vibe, good music, relaxed bar tenders, affordable cold beer — I’d happily spend hours here waiting for pizza and playing games.

Ok, this is one of those review caveat… it’s really a 3.5. But I’m just not ready to push it up to 4 on paper yet. My first few years in town, I went to this place a few-3,4 times, but I hadn’t been back in years. Met the girls last week for drinks and food and gabbing. I still like it here. Drinks were quite affordable — I think it was happy hour. And the caesar wrap with chicken was just delicious. Crispy, fresh and everything a caesar wrap should be. The smoking area is a nice plus. The place isn’t too crowded(I don’t really remember it ever being that crowded). The staff was nice, the patrons just peachy. So — this could be a 4 one day… gotta check it out again. The only real problem is parking. I got lucky this time, but I do remember that being a struggle over yonder way.

While Bar of the Gods is a lofty name for any establishment, I found my short time here worth the wait for the pizza joint next door, and definitely worth a revisit. We bellied up to the bar, and being the Bloody Mary fiend that I am, I order one… granted it was 7ish, and they were on their very last pour of housemade mix. This dive bar makes a mean Bloody Mary, y’all. Perfect as an «appetizer in a glass» before our meal next door. I know this might sound silly but it was epic that their pool table took dollars AND quarters, and instead of one game it gave you a certain amount of time. We perched up in the back here for quite some time shooting pool. The décor is quirky with Bacchus-esque grapes dangling from the ceiling and a Creation of Adam meets PBR light up sign that I wanted to stealthily remove from the wall and take back to New Orleans, alas, I just stared at it for about 5 minutes. I noticed people enjoying a sit-down meal in the bar, so I’ll have to come back for some grub when I hit up Portland again to see how they fare!

Ahhhh… This place. We had this place on our radar in our quest to find some cool dives. This place did not fail to deliver! It was everything we expected. Grungy, dark, stiff drinks, chill atmosphere, and a place to charge your phone. Again, I’m trying to refrain from doing the Austin comparison, but this place totally reminds me of a bar that rhymes with Whackalope.

The drinks are strong, the staff is awesome and the Chicken Caesar Wrap is one of my favorite things to eat in Portland. If you like getting drunk in a pagan themed bar, or really any bar, then this place is for you.
