Barber Dan is the best in town– period. Super nice guy, great work, and a great barber shop. My hair and beard haven’t looked better. I won’t be going anywhere else.

You’re correct, Danny boy. I did feel entitled… To the appointment for a haircut you made when you made it. And I did indeed walk out in a huff after you acted like I was lying to you about making said appointment. I’m so bummed to be kicked out of your shop. Where else could I possibly get a haircut in Portland, Oregon?

I deleted my review and then realized that other people felt the same way. I appreciate that Dan did write back but he never really apologized… he just said sorry you feel that way. Great cut I got from the guy who works with Dan. Dan seemed aloof and almost did not care about my business. I’m not sure if he is burned out or on again off again. I would give 2 stars for the good cut and 0 stars for the bad attitude.

We live in West Linn, but he gives the best cuts ever. I take my boys here as often as I can.

Thank you for the response. Surely a misunderstanding of the policy is possible. I’ll come come around soon for another cut, your interest in my business is important to me, I was just taken back by the way the punchcard was handled. A skilled barber who knows what the heck he/she is doing is a valuable(albeit) small for me, part of life. You are that barber. See you soon.

Barber dans is by far the best place to go for a good cut. He might not have the hottest girls or the biggest TVs but you will get the best cut. Make sure Dan cuts your hair himself if you haven’t been before. He gives a mean fade.

Awesome barber! Dan is a great guy, he does a great job. You should get a reservation at peak times or plan on waiting. But you won’t be disappointed. Vast majority of his customers are repeat so you know that speaks for itself.

Dan is great! Best haircut I’ve had anywhere hands down. I would never go to anyone else! The location is easy to find, parking is abundant and as mentioned before — best haircut ever. Will be a happy customer for many many years to come!

At Barber Dan’s you get a great haircut and a great price. Dan is down to earth — friendly without being fake. He’s so good at what he does and he listens to what the customer wants. The shop has an old time barbershop feel which is cool. It’s really helpful that he now takes appointments! Seriously, what’s not to like! Does a great job with kids too.

After passing Barber Dan’s many times(I live not too far away), I decided to pop in one afternoon for a quick buzz cut. Dan got to me quickly, even though I didn’t have an appointment, and did a bang-up job. Way too often in the past, a stylist will race through a haircut with me, especially the clipper/buzz cuts. Not the case with Dan. He really took his time and did it right. No rushing whatsoever. He even finished off the back of my neck with a straight razor. I was very happy with the results. And the atmosphere — very laid back, no frills or pretense — was a bonus. This is a truly old school barber shop. Will definitely be going back.

I am so glad I live not too far from here. Dan is a great old school barber. I like close/tight fades. He does it with no problems. When I leave there my hair is precise and clean. I went during the early evening and got seen very quickly. But right after I sat down people started to come in looking for a cut. Got there before the rush. His prices aren’t listed, but my sorta involved fade was $ 21. Not bad. Especially when you consider it’s owner run, you know it’s going to a small local business. I’d recommend him to anyone.

By far the best barber in town. I am never disappointed with the cut. He is very good at what he does. Check it out for sure.

I stumbled upon Dan’s place as I lived right around the corner. That was a happy surprise as I saw two things before my haircut which were good indicators: 1) there is a clientele waiting for cuts 2) they all knew Dan = return clients! Dan’s very thoughtful, professional, but also calm & cool in exactly the way you want to feel when someone new is cutting your hair. I also fall into the camp that(while I get the old timey«want a sasparilla or whiskey while you wait?») cocktails & beer with haircuts always seems shifty. Just like champagne served at clothing boutiques. Sure, take my mind off of [insert goods or service here] while I get a buzz. If you want a simple chop that is clean and done well at a cost that to me is 30−50% less than other places: Dan’s your man. There is one thing that you may want to know — While all this is great, you should know that your hair won’t be blown out after the cut. Residual hair clippings will remain. I don’t usually get a mid workday cut and since I was in high school — I ALWAYS have had remainder hair stuck to my shirt, neck, etc,. so I don’t take ‘points’ away from that as it’s only when I’ve spent $ 150. at a salon that I’ve walked out not having hair sticking to me. For 90% less cost — I’ll bring another shirt or plan to get a cut when I can rinse out my hair. I do use a paste/moulding crème in my hair. To that end, I also like that I’m not being sold on a private label hair product that for whatever unqualified reason is better/safer/and dolphin-safe. And, you also won’t be sent a survey and weekly follow up emails reminding you it’s time for a haircut. It’s just a great, simple haircut by a very nice guy at a extremely fair price. For me that’s a value.

I don’t live in the neighborhood. I don’t need a shot of whiskey or a beer. What I do need is a good haircut. I also need it a good price. Dan is a simple guy who can do both things I need a barber to do.

This is the most satisfying haircut I’ve ever recieved. I wish I could leave him a bigger tip but I am pretty broke… self-induced brokenness.

Wanted a shave but realized this may not be the best place for that. Got a trim and it was pretty solid. Classic ol’ spot!

Great great great haircuts, for the quality very affordable. Barber Dan is knowledgeable in all different men’s styles and finishes each cut with a straight-razor shave. (Check out the 14 — 5star reviews that Unilocal is omitting).

Barber Dan is the best! I’m a caregiver for a middle age man that had a stroke. Barber Dan is the best. He tells him how much he is improving every time we go in. He is very professional and courteous. Jim and I always look forward to our visits to Barber Dan’s Barber Shop. The haircut is always consistent and very professional. Susan

So, I Stumbled on Dan’s place a while ago when I was living in the neighborhood. I was a little dubious at first I have to say. In the past I have always gone to salons or hipster type places like bishops, but I’m so glad I decided to make the change to a small independent barber. I have been going to Barber Dan’s shop for almost a year and every experience has been excellent. I have learned that hipster façades and exorbitant rates are not required for stylish cuts. Choosing an independent small barber like Dan offers consistency and convenience. Unlike other places I have visited, I know when I go to Dan’s shop the person who will be cutting my hair knows exactly how I want it done. I also enjoy the speed of service. Barber Dan’s is a walkin establishment not appointment based. For me this is very convenient. I have rarely experienced a long wait. In most cases when I walk in for a cut Dan is just finishing up with a client and I wait at most 5 or 10 minutes. Often he is immediately available. Rarely on occasion, I have had to wait as long as 20 or 30 minutes but this is to be expected with a walk in system. I have never experienced the wait times of some bishops locations. I have never been a big fan of barber small talk. I have to say though Dan is very personable, funny, and not too long-winded. I enjoy our little conversations but I also enjoy silence. Barber Dan’s accepts cash as well as credit and debit cards. For credit and debit cards he uses«Square»(the popular iPhone-based card reader point-of-sale system) which I really appreciate. It’s handheld, fast, and has nifty on-screen buttons for no gratuity, 15%, 20%, or 25%. Best of all, once your transaction is complete you can receive your receipt via email or even text message. Give Dan’s a try. As always, be as specific as possible your first couple times and then enjoy the convenience of a consistent reliable cut.

I didn’t want to write this review because I’m selfish and I don’t want anyone to know about this place. But Dan asked, I said yes, and I’m a man of my word. Before I found Dan’s, I was going to Bart’s, which is great but as you can see it’s gotten really good reviews so it’s pretty difficult to get in there and get your hair cut without waiting forever. One night the ATM next to Bart’s was broken so I said screw it, searched barbershops and Dan’s came up. I got there at 6, he closes at 6, he said no problem. This guy knows what he’s doing. He’s really good. He cuts with an effortless detail and quality, taking his time, cleans you up by vacuuming any loose hairs, and ends with a hot lather neck shave. He’s also a super nice guy who’s easy to talk with. Pair that with seldom having to wait, it’s pretty clear Dan has taken the title of best shop in town.
