It is an impressive feat indeed to go from 5 stars to 2, but Barbur Cleaners deserves it, if not more. The first few times I went to Barbur Cleaners I was more than impressed. But then it went down hill, with enough velocity to cause a minor explosion upon impact. First, I had some wide legged pants to be hemmed. I specifically ask for them to be hemmed to high heel length. Instead, I got a pair of wide legged floodwaters. Unacceptable. Next I went in with a pair of suit dresses that needed to be tailored. The seamstress had me try on the dresses, and proceeded to laugh at me as she said, «There’s no way we can alter these dresses because you’re too small here,» pointing to my waist, «And TOOBIG here,» grabbing my butt. True story. She grabbed it. And laughed. I ended up bringing these two dresses to another seamstress who didn’t bat an eyelash and she proceeded to take the dresses in at the waist. She managed to make no comments about my large posterior, no less. I’m not sure why I gave these guys another chance after this, but I brought in another simple cotton dress that needed to be taken in at the waist. I asked for both sides to be taken in. After waiting a few weeks to hear that the dress was ready, I picked it up to find she only took the waist in on one side, leaving all the extra fabric on the inside of the dress to uncomfortably rub at my waist. Because she only took the dress in on one side, the other side hangs oddly loose, and is uncomfortably tight on one arm. I don’t understand why this wasn’t foreseeable. How can you make such a rookie mistake? I guess the fault is my own for coming back after my first two disappointments. I won’t be making that mistake again. Barbur Cleaners, no more.

The dry cleaners by my house went out of business so I decided to try Barbur Cleaners since it’s on my way home from work. Mind you, I rarely need anything to be dry-cleaned, so I don’t have much to compare this business to. Here’s the deal. I bought a halter top at a consignment store and thought dry cleaning would make it look new. There were no stains. I just had it in my head that the white would be less dingy. I was wrong. $ 6.25 later, and it just looked like it’d been ironed. Not that I won’t wear it. I was just disappointed. For some reason I thought they actually washed clothing items. i now think they just remove any stains then steam them. Regardless, the price was a little steep for my end result. Not that I won’t go back. I will just have more realistic expectations for what I am paying for.

I have been to Barbur Cleaners multiple times using both their dry cleaning and altering services. I brought in a wool coat that had been covered in a spilled fruit smoothie and a bundle of silk ties that my kitten decided to use as a little box. All of my things came back clean and looking brand new. Jeans that I have brought in to be hemmed came back to me with the perfect length. The prices are very reasonable and the service is quick. I will be going in tomorrow to have a dress altered for my boyfriends graduation and I am confident that it will come back to me fitting perfectly.
