We just moved from NYC to Portland a week ago and have been searching for our new neighborhood spot. After stumbling into the eclectic A-frame Bastas late at night after a movie, we are now harboring a hard core crush. The food was legit delicious.(We had house red wine, Caesar salad, lasagna and Margherita pizza.) The servers were sweet, authentic and down to earth. And they were playing the Smiths and the Cure. Our hearts were won over completely, though, when we were told it was after 10pm so their second«happy hour» was going on and both of our entrees were half price. It was a total Love Potion No. 9. Go.

I moved to Portland 6 months ago, and thankfully found Basta shortly thereafter. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the happy hour is amazing. It is actually my favorite happy hour of all time. The cost to deliciousness ratio is unparalleled. $ 6 on the super delicious entrees — come on. Even outside of happy hour, the prices are very reasonable given portions and deliciousness. But what I love just as much about Basta is the service — nicest people ever. I wish there were six stars for this place.

I’ve been here twice. The first time was pretty good. Then I ordered take out the other day and was disappointed. $ 17. I was charged $ 17 for«spaghetti»(penne noodles) and marinara(I requested no meat balls, even) and a side of bread. I didn’t complain at the time because I assumed Christ himself prepared the noodles. The food itself was okay but definitely not $ 17 worth taste or quantity-wise. Very disappointed.

Had not been to Bastas in about 6 months and just went back a few weeks back. Lucky for us the seafood risotto was on the menu. This is probably my favorite seafood dish of all time but each time I have gone with my girl, it has not been on the menu. That night they had it and it was as good or better than it had ever been before. We also had the lasagna and I was so pleasantly surprised how delicious it was. The first time I have had a lasagna with a bechamel sauce and it was just amazingly rich and flavorful. As usual, the service was professional and the atmosphere very welcoming. I strongly recommend Bastas. I don’t think you can go wrong.

I ordered the vegetarian pizza. There was nothing out of this world about it. I wouldn’t come back here for dinner, though I would return for happy hour. They have a great $ 6 menu of drinks and snacks, including a margarita pizza. It’s a much better value to go for HH rather than dinner.

C’mon, you could have walked the delivery to my house in less time than your driver took. Takeout dinner was gnocchi and beet salad with bread. The gnocchi was nearly cold and stuck together like glue. The tomato sauce was ok but I could have opened a jar from the cupboard and eaten dinner two hours earlier. The beet salad also suffered from neglect over time. The spinach was totally wilted, what there was of it! The beets and a few bites of feta were good. The bread was excellent even though cut by someone with few knife skills. Sorry, this must not have been the best night for the restaurant. Next time — never!

Let’s get down to it I love this place. Hit M Bar across the way for happy hour, and when that ends then hit Bastas for their happy hour after 10pm. They have 6 $ plates which is awesome, and giant portions. Real pricing and good food make it a hit. The bechamel sauce in the lasagna is amazing, the spaghetti and meatballs are killer and the marg pizza is large and tasty. The service has always been friendly, but then again, we are outwardly friendly too.

My friend ordered the lasagna which was really delicious and i recommend that for sure. DONOT order the octopus. It was prepared horribly! I love grilled octopus and I know how it’s supposed to taste. This was rubbery, greasy, with that gooey slimy skin all over each piece, which was cut haphazardly. The arugula it was on top of was slimy and oily with a really salty dressing with no actual flavor. I’m sorry but I’m being honest. If you want good grilled octopus go to Sauce Box, Tasty n Alder, or Andina. Just don’t order it from here.

A small and very friendly restaurant with delicious food from local ingredients. We enjoyed steak and ravioli with a lovely red wine recommended by the knowledgeable waitress. The décor is quiet and there an interesting mural.

Wonderful atmosphere and a good variety of delicious food. The grilled calamari is well-balanced, yummy pastas and definitely try the specials! Great wine menu, too!

Walked in the door and the hostess looks at me and says, «What are you doing???». There was no mistaking it. I’m still in shock. Then we waited 25 minutes for our second cocktail and were served undercooked mashed potatoes masquerading as gnocchi. When we complained, the server said, «Awesome». Not awesome, Bastas. Not going back.

Went for a friend’s BD and got the chance to try a wide range of things ranging from fancy specials to pasta dishes(all the pasta is made in house). I always feel bad when I order lasagna at a place that serves other more adventurous choices, but that’s what I wanted and that’s what I got. And I’ll be damned if it wasn’t incredible. So much so that I keep ordering it. All the salads are good too, but the octopus salad is better than good. And now that I’m done writing this review, I think I’m going to get in my car and go get me some more lasagna. I’m crapping you negative — this might be one of Portland’s most underrated spots.

One of my favorite restaurants in town! Fun atmosphere, consistent quality and unique twists on classic dishes. Go there for a great happy hour menu and you won’t leave hungry.

stopped in for a quick drink before dinner and it turned out it was happy hour! their deals are AMAZING. since we already had dinner plans, we got a plate of beef carpaccio just as a snack. i had never had it before, but if it always tastes this good i will be ordering it everywhere and often. we also had a cocktail that was made with fresh espresso. it was FABULOUS. i will definitely be back to stay and eat a full meal.

yum. This place has some delicious Italian food. From what I’ve tried so far, the lasagna was definitely my favorite(and I really don’t even like lasagna). They have super good red sauce. I’ve also been here for happy hour, and they serve full sized entrees for a much lower price — it’s a great deal. The portions are a good size, but aren’t overwhelming like other Italian places tend to be. They also have a good selection of wine and beers on tap. The inside of basta is sorta small, but pretty cozy. There’s usually an old Italian movie playing on the projector, which adds a nice touch to the atmosphere. They also have outdoor seating when the weather’s nice.

Sat outside & enjoyed happy hour at Bastas. Pizza was enough to share between the two of us and bf loved his lasagna. Inside was quaint and on the darker side, so I was glad to sit outside and take advantage of the sunshine. They were very busy, which is always a good sign. Service was pleasant and efficient. It’s in the neighborhood & will be back to try a main course.

Haven’t been here in a year or two but we had the best dinner, experience. For starters, they have revamped, added to menu and this why we returned. Thank you Kelley(server), she was good, knowledgable, receptive, funny, definitely a personality. I has a fantastic lasagna plate, wife had scallops, salad, with onion rings as an ‘app’. Atmosphere is still a good vibe. What’s great about Bastas is they are reasonably priced all the around. And I think this is what sets them apart. You can have a great, almost gourmet plate and not have to spend $ 20, 25, 30 a plate. We are returning next week with our kids(for the pizza), and in-laws.

Come for the happy hour. 5:00 — 6:30pm &10pm till close. The restaurant is very inviting with great décor that surprises you the first time you step in. It’s not hard to get seating after 10 on a Thursday and the staff is very friendly at this hour. The burger is a must, the burger itself is cooked perfectly, the bread toasted just right, but the fries… The fries are the star of this dish. Very unique cut which gives it a crispy thin outside with a soft mushy inside with potato flavor, best of both worlds. I would also recommend the beef carparacio, both items are on the HH menu for $ 6 each. Without a doubt highly recommended. Will be coming back and my new favorite on 21st.
