Benson Hotel

First, I love the location to the Benson, everything within walking distance. I came to town to take a client to dinner and the game. The valet is one of the best in the hotel industry, they always remember my name and ask how I want my car. The room was awesome as always, but the best part for me this stay was my breakfast meeting with my client on Sunday morning. The waiter was engaging but knew when to leave us alone and the food was excellent. My client loved the atmosphere and food, so I couldn’t have done better. Thanks again to the staff and old world charm at the Benson.

Its a nice place. I really liked it. The parking situation is inconvenient. It could use renovations and be cleaner. Very comfortable bed. Good central location.

Gorgeous hotel! Great service! Love this hotel will be back, and soon. Can’t wait for breakfast.

Wedding Venue — as you can see hubby and I got married here. Is most magical beautiful wonderful experience. The food was phenomenal, the service was unparalleled and I felt like a princess the entire time. We didn’t even really need any kind of Decour because of how beautiful this century old building is.
Brunch/​Dining — always an excellent experience. The servers are always top notch and check on you multiple times regardless if you’re at the bar top or seated anywhere in the lounge area.
Rooms — because this is a century old building, you will not find anything chic about it. But the experience of being in the Lincoln Sweet was one of the best nights that I can remember. Gorgeous crown molding, huge bad, in a suite with champagne and strawberries. Perfect way to end a long weekend!

The staff and service here are great but the rooms need updating and are quite dim. I’ve stayed here a few times and was pretty surprised to find nasty mold all in the shower today. Gross! It is very historic and the downstairs is lovely. Their cocktail area downstairs is nice. But overall the rooms (particularly the bathrooms) feel like they were last updated in the 80’s.

This is a gorgeous hotel. Absolutely beautiful. Very comfortable. The room service breakfast was delicious. And at a fair price. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and attentive.

I love The Benson. I stayed here when I was a flight attendant 30 years ago, and it still has the same classic ambiance it did then. Beautiful, some of the same staff, and just makes you want to never leave.

Good enough historic hotel. Room was clean, staff was friendly enough, location is ideal. Has a bit of a dark /​dingy vibe, which comes with the territory for many older hotels, but it seems this place is overdue for some renovation or upgrades — just to make the whole experience a bit more enjoyable.

What a beautiful hotel! While I did not stay here, I did use the bathroom and loiter in the lobby for a while. I highly suggest you do the same. Dress well and pretend like you belong there and you won’t get hassled.

So to start off I came here for a leadership conference as far as the staff go everybody’s friendly I guess it’s an upscale hotel I wouldn’t expect anything less.
they have very nice decorating it’s kind of old fashion so it’s not moderate at all it’s very old-​fashioned historic beauty and the beast kind of furniture

I would rate the food 3 ½ stars there’s been some good food but it’s hotel food. Healthy portions I did not stay in the rooms so I cannot give a review based on that I do intend to stay in a couple of months so at that time I will update my review on how my room stay is.

This place is so historic looking! Looks very classy and antique on the inside. The front desk staff are always so welcoming! Don’t forget to request for a Beta fish that they will bring to your room if you are feeling lonely or want extra company in your room! And it’s completely free to do! Supposedly hotels used to do it back in the day to keep people company in their hotel rooms. I haven’t had a room where I had a view of downtown, usually the windows are enclosed on the inside so you only see another building. The bed is quite comfy and fluffy. The furniture is also antique looking but it gives off that haunted effect. Btw, I heard this hotel is haunted? Oh and they give you robes in the closet to borrow!

Lovely accommodating staff, especially in the restaurant. Would easily be a five star hotel with some simple renovations and a better housekeeping department. I understand this is a historic hotel, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be clean. The carpets and couches looked as though they hadn’t been properly cleaned in decades, and judging by the mold in the bathroom floor, it seems safe to say the same goes for that.
When we were ready to check out, my husband couldn’t find his watch; we turned the room upside looking for it. Upon doing so, we stumbled upon a lovely 9 month old issue of Penthouse magazine under the mattress. Any decent housekeeper would have stumbled upon this in one sweep of the room! I have to wonder what else was missed in their «cleaning» of the room.
Aside from those little snafus, we enjoyed our time at the hotel. A serious renovation & better housekeepers could do wonders for this place!
SIDE NOTE: This is a very pet friendly hotel with paper thin walls. Keep that in mind when booking!

This is a really nice hotel that is pretty centrally located in the downtown area of Portland. We were able to quickly walk to plenty of restaurants and Powell’s– but once dusk hit we opted to start Über-​ing, as there are a few sketchy blocks in the area.
The staff was friendly, and our small suite with King bed was nice and comfy. They allow you to order breakfast to your room by hanging your menu on the door the evening before– which we liked. (the Blueberry Pancakes are delish!)
So, why only 3 stars, you ask? Sadly, this is the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in. We barely slept all night due to the constant noise of street sweepers, sirens, people screaming on the street below and train whistles. We were on the 7^th floor and may have well been on the first floor. Must be the worst insulated windows/​building ever. Had I known, I would have bought earplugs.
I would recommend this hotel, but definitely inquire about noise levels and your room– thinking maybe we just got an unfortunate side of the hotel?

I’ve stayed here twice and both times have been solid — the historic hotel in downtown Portland is pretty conveniently located to public transportation, plenty of restaurants and shops, and quiet enough on a higher up floor.
A one room hotel for two is standard but plenty nice. Good shower pressure, space to put luggage, and comfy mattress. That’s all you really need if you’re out all day. Only issue is the Internet is a bit slow at times. As a plus, there are Starbucks coffee filters.

Of all of the hotels that my wife stays in as a flight attendant, this is my very favorite! The lobby feels like you are walking onto the Titanic, luxurious and grand in every way possible.
The location of this hotel is ideal: close to the food scene, with options from fancy brazilian churrasco to food trucks and Voodoo doughnuts. It is close to a Target as well, making it practical. You can walk to anything. A Unilocalers dream.
I would have given it a 5, but the rooms are undeniably small and you have to pay $ 15 to use a mini fridge and $ 15 for a microwave too. We also have had issues with room keys (our last stay we had to go to the front desk 3 times before we could get into our room) and one time we got a room that stunk from cigarette smoke. They switched us promptly and apologized.
Despite all of these misfortunate events, the hotel is still loved by my wife and I. We spent my birthday there last year and celebrated our one year anniversary there this year. A great place to come for special occasions.

English language has many synonyms for the word «old», sometime it is called Legacy, classic, legendary; however this one is just plain old. If you are an antique lover you might enjoy staying in this hotel, however if you were born after 1960s you better stay out. Not only the hotel is old there is no justification for the price they charge per night. How much would it cost to replace the soap bar every night? The hotel gives a feeling of an old motel 6. Deeply scratched doors in the hallways, bathtub with STAINS and an elevator which looks sounds and acts as it’s still at the 20s.

This place is old. Our room was very narrow. We stayed in a double queen size bed room and it was small. We stayed on the 11^th floor with no view. And the AC was barely working. Our room was barely cool even though we turned it down to 60. I had to keep exchanging the key card because it would never work in the elevator and I had to try it at least 3 times each time before getting back in my room.
Overall the staff was nice and friendly but I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again.

Always a favorite place of mine. Historic hotel with a fantastic lobby and interior. Rooms are on the smaller side which is expected being a old hotel, but they are clean, beds comfortable, and everything works. The staff is always very friendly and polite. I have ate here a few times and was impressed as well. I think my favorite thing about the Benson is the location. A little on the expensive side but book in advance and you can find good rates.

This used to be a Grand Hotel. The main entrance to the hotel is still grand.
But it ends there. The rooms are so outdated and pathetic.
The hotel needs to be completely redone concerning the rooms.
Service here is not what it used to be.
When you’re paying the money they ask for.
There are a lot nicer hotels in Portland.

I hope they find someone who’s willing to spend a lot of money to fix this old hotel.
Air B&B would even be a much better choice.
Give the Benson a past stay somewhere else.

Tom the concierge made our overall experience GREAT. The room was lovely, the service was excellent and the overall hotel was definitely memorable.
