This is one of our favorite sandwich shops in Portland. We have been coming here with the family for a number of years. Located right on 78th and Powell Boulevard, it is very easy to miss this little sandwich shop and as you are driving down Powell Boulevard. The parking lot is very small and compact but there is additional parking in the back of the shop. The interior has a very homely feel to it. The shop is family owned with the workers being friendly and personable. The sandwiches are freshly made with an abundance of assorted meats and vegetables to choose from. We usually get our sandwiches toasted which makes them nice and fresh tasting. There is also a nice little selection of Asian and Vietnamese type desserts. Their specialty is the Binh Minh sandwiches. The prices are very reasonable around three dollars and up. The service here is also great we can get in and get out with our food rather quickly. Overall, we love the great tasting sandwiches and friendly service.

Amazing bread! Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Always fresh! Love the sandwiches– bahn mi’s are $ 2.75 each, you can make it spicy and they will add jalapeños in it. I love their beef stew with bread. It’s well seasoned, and the bread is delicious. Great $ 6 meal. Will go back.

It’s spelled Banh Mi NOT Bahn Mi(actually there are accents as well in the correct spelling, please see An P.‘s review below for the true correct spelling)!!! It drives me crazy seeing Bahn Mi, especially written in newspaper reviews. Seriously, like a visual nails-on-a-chalk board for me. Now that you know, I appreciate you propagating it forward. Also, «Binh Minh»(with accents) means«Sunrise» in Vietnamese. The more you know. As for the sandwiches, mainly talking about the special, I would say Binh Minh’s offering is slightly smaller and less hearty than better known Best Baguette’s equivalent but Binh Minh’s sub tastes slightly better. I do think the mayo and bread are a little bit better at Binh Minh. Both places are good value. Binh Minh also does a decent patechaud, spring roll, and beef stew in case you would like to diversify your Vietnamese-French meal. As for the service, lol… I agree with others that the old lady ain’t the friendliest but I suppose I just have lower standards in that regard for a sandwich shop rather than a true sit-down restaurant. A younger middle-aged lady served me a few times and she was very pleasant in conversation. I’m still on the search for«the one» when it comes to Banh Mi in Portland. Good luck to all those on the hunt.

I love banh mi here especially the grilled pork sandwich with a reasonable price. However the customer service wasnt good. The owner is always unhappy.

Always heard that the banh mi here is really so I decided to try it out but my first experience was horrible because of the customer service. It was 4:45pm, I called the restaurant to see if it was still opened. A Vietnamese lady picked up the phone and shouting at me in Vietnamese saying«what are you talking about?» Luckily I’m Vietnamese and I understood what she said so I spoke in Vietnamese very politely asking if the store was still open. She yelled«CLOSED!» then slammed the phone. Now I understand why it’s competitor Best Baguette is still the BEST!

Good, basic banh mi place. Really one of the better banh mi offerings around, and definitely one of the better priced, with enough variety to please most people. Don’t expect too much ambiance, it’s definitely a to go joint, but they have honeycomb cake and some other goodies, all at reasonable prices. I’m not putting any fucking mustard on this review. Am I the only one annoyed by Unilocal’s exhortations to keep writing when there’s nothing left to say?

We used to buy their baguettes at this location because it’s closer to our home but we stopped going there because of bad customer service. The owner wasn’t always friendly whenever we were there. Somehow she always looked so unhappy to serve us and I don’t know why. I got the feeling that I was more of a nuisance to her than a paying customer. Somehow I think the owner got the old school of doing business. She thinks that her sandwiches are so great that she doesn’t care about the customer service, which is totally wrong. Now we go to Best Baguettes and Lee’s Sandwich for better baguettes and better customer service.

The pâté chaud was delish! Super light, buttery and flaky, $ 0.85 a piece, and one of the best that I’ve had. I ordered the house banh mi and toasted the sandwich at work for lunch, it was soo good! $ 2.75 each, I got 4 to share with my colleagues, the bread was so soft and lightly toasted, and it had just enough meat and veggies!

YUM! A Vietnamese bahn mi place that has a bahn mi at actual prices and not inflated ego prices??? How can that be? How can they not be charging $ 8 for one? Come on? Isn’t that the way? Overcharge for a simple sandwich because you can. Do you get the sarcasm here? This is good food, and really, really cheap. If you are paying more than $ 4 for a bahn mi, GOSOMEWHEREELSE. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Take a little trip out to 82nd or down to Bihn Mihn. You won’t regret it. I had a thinly sliced bbq pork sandwich on some nice crusty French bread with mayo, carrots, cilantro and plenty of jalapenos. It was also a decent sized sandwich. With a mango nectar and some Pocky(yes, I got Pocky) I only paid $ 6.25. That’s it!!! I wolfed that thing down in five minutes flat and I should have gone back in for another. The two women running the place were friendly, even offering up steamed buns. I’ll get that the next time I’m in the area. Anyone for shrimp chips? They have them in abundance. Home made custard? Sure. You come here and you’ll be full and spend less than $ 7 for a compete meal. You’ll also be happy you came. Get down to Bihn Mihn in the way southeast. Or at least as far southeast as I’ve gone thus far. Enjoy.

I thought the sandwiches were a little thin on the meat but for the money($ 2.75), still a great value. You can pay $ 1 for extra meat and still get a bargain. But what sold this place to me were the fabulous dumplings and other offerings. Thick rice wrappers, pork and mushroom filling, tasty sauce… I need to back for these alone. Not to mention the sweet rice with taro and coconut. Yum.

I want to love this place… I want to love it SOHARD! It was recommended to me by a coworker, so one day when I was heading into PDX to visit my folks I decided to make a pit stop here. Delighted by the prices, I got the Dac Biet and Grilled Pork sandwiches along with a BBQ Pork Bao. Once the bread hit my mouth I almost fainted, somehow the bread is crunchy and also so light and fluffy it just seemed to melt away… DELICIOUS! The actual meats on the Dac Biet were tasty and moist. But once I regained my mind which the bread had briefly swept away, I realized something was missing, something that for me is part of my love of Banh Mi; there was no daikon or cucumber! A big reason I love these sandwiches so much is the extra freshness and crunch the cucumber/carrot/daikon bring to the sandwich. I hoped they had forgotten it or something but looking at the sandwich/menu photos here on Unilocal,it looks like those ingredients just aren’t a part of Banh Mi Dac Biet at Binh Minh.

Great place for bahn mi! Amazing Thai iced tea in a can and great sesame balls. Best 2.50 sandwich in town!!!

They sell the best baguette in town. My favorite place to go whenever I’m craving for bánh mì.

Binh Minh Sandwiches is one of the places that I most frequent on Sunday mornings. I think the sandwiches here are the perfect size and their baguettes are toasted yet soft – sometimes, the sandwiches at Best Baguette cut my mouth because it’s so hard. I’ll admit… they skimp a little on the filling/ingredients in the sandwich, but it’s only $ 2.50 and you could add more meat if you want more for another $ 0.50. Still cheap! The quality of their headcheese and pâté is overall better than other places in Portland, I think it is tastier. Their Vietnamese coffee is pre-made but, damn, it’s strong! When I used to work on Sunday afternoons, I barely could hold my 90D lens still because I am so jittery.

Having decided to spend an extra day at the coast, my friend and I had to book it back to Portland one rainy morning to make it to work on time. It was grey, and we were hungry. This was my first time stopping into Binh Minh. The two women working there were all business, but not distinctly unpleasant. I had a #2(pork meatballs), which was completely serviceable. I wolfed it down. It made me pine for Banh Mi Saigon in New York. Sandwich was relatively small, but I didn’t feel like it was lacking in any one component – that being said, I will almost always say yes to more herbs. They had some dumplings(banh bot loc? I forget.) on the counter which looked potentially tasty, as well as some shrimp and pork rolls that someone snatched up right before we ordered. It wasn’t the most delicious thing EVER, but my sandwich was still enjoyable, and I will be back to try more sandwiches, the dumplings, rolls, and buns. And FYI, if you are into Rice Krispies treats, this is apparently your place. I know nothing about the quality of them. I just know that they got ‘em.

I’m a big fan of Best Baguette, but after reading Ethan D’s review of Best Baguette, he mentioned Binh Minh as building a better banh mi so after living in this neighborhood for years, I finally decided to try it. I think I have a new favorite sandwich shop. The filling is light and the flavors are harmonious. They use just the right amount of ginger which adds alot of flavor without being over-powering. The bread is light on the inside and perfectly crunchy on the outside.

The grilled pork Bahn Mi with a steamed BBQ pork bun and this place has my heart forever. did you read that… FOREVER! Total you pay $ 4.50 and it’s the cheapest gratification you can buy… the hours are limited so plan accordingly.

Delicious Bahn Mi(Vietnamese French Sandwiches) here. They bake the bread on location and you can taste the freshness. The PateSo was nice and flakey. The Combo bun(They call it their Pork bun, even though it has part of an egg and a piece of lap chung(Chinese sausage) in it) was on the dry side; I’ve definitely had better. The Portland Mercury just did a Best Bahn Mi in town and I thoroughly disagree with it’s rankings. I suppose it’s based on opinion though. The strangest thing about this Vietnamese Deli is that they sell gummy bears in little plastic togo containers.

This place rocks! It is the supplier for most of the asian grocers as well. It is well known in the Vietnamese community. They are really nice and friendly and the food is always great. Everything I have had there has been beautiful. Check it out. It is worth the trip. It beats best baguette by a mile.
